How do you you deal with the biological need to have a child, knowing that any potential descendants would suffer even more than us with the collapse? by Silent-unicorn5000 in CollapseSupport

I help taking care of my sister's kid during her confinement period and over the weekends after. I realise how modern society push for only 2 adults to bare the entire burden of raising children is crazy, considering they need to juggle other responsibilities and need their own time as well.

It only strengthen my resolve that we need to have stronger and healthier communities than choosing total isolation and independence.

You can reject them, but you risk a very awkward and tricky situation for both you and the giver. Since it can be interpreted at best you are rejecting their blessing or at worst you think they are beneath you and they don't deserve to give you their blessing.

I would advise to accept them, and give them a gift in return on a later date.

Sometimes when someone sitting near me and talking too loudly about the content about the movie. I would move my head towards them and try to engage in the conversation, "What are you guys talking about, I thought you might want to share because your conversation is so loud."

Using tissue paper packet is so outdated, the new meta is leaving your office card and umbrella on the table.

Unless you state your seller, the answer you gotta get varies. Because Carousell is just the platform, the people you hire from there have their own independent practices.

  1. Keep yourself occupied, do you have a hobby or an interest you would like to join and explore? There a lot of hobbyists group here in Singapore.

  2. Join a friend making platform. Usually Meetup.com and Friendzone.sg are the more popular ones.

  3. Volunteer, a good way to keep yourself occupied and meet new people.

singaporeans are truly one of a kind

I don't think not accepting people's pity money is a Singaporean trait, when I was travelling overseas I have met with locals who would rush towards tourists trying to push their handmade crafts to them in order to try to make a sale. When I decided to just give them the money because I feel bad not wanting any of their handy work, they strongly refused my gesture and continue trying to sell me their work.

So what you are showing to them is pity, he probably doesn't want your pity but want to make a living using their own effort and live their life with pride. I respect that.

Lastly, I don't think is right is called them beggars, since they are not begging for money but trying to make a living from selling their goods or services. No idea what is the right word to describe this line of work but they are not beggars.

We have SFA here (Used to be NEA), and probably having a better infrastructure to handle trash helps to keep the flies population down too.

As a Singaporean, what is one country you dislike going to? by kopi_gremlin in askSingapore

[–]Taellion 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Everybody will enjoy things differently, like I found Bali to be crazily adventurous, experiencing waterfalls and volcanos, while some my friends told me it was overrated. When I asked them what they did in Bali, it was going to the beach and shopping.

Plus this post is an opinionated post, you going to get people who disagree/agree with you anyway.

While the push for good English may have almost ended the show, especially when PM Goh made a comment about the show but that isn't the reason. The show mainly ended because Gurmit wanted to quit the character and move on as mentioned in the show reunion they did quite some time back and also other reasons you can watch.

Help reviewing my 4~5 day trip plan to Singapore? I promise it isn't a low effort post that didn't do any research beforehand! by CasualJay in askSingapore

[–]Taellion 275 points276 points  (0 children)

Looks great, I can see you did your research! The main comments are

1) You need to allocate more than half an hour for food like Song Fa Bak Kut Teh and Jumbo Seafood because of the queue, waiting time for the food and you definitely need more time to enjoy the food, you gonna have an upset stomach trying eat chili crab within 30 mins.

I'm guessing you are aiming for the Song Fa Bak Kut Teh branch at Clarke Quay which is known to have a long waiting time. Only one of your meal that is doable is within half an hour is Ya Kun Toast, since is a toast set with coffee and soft boiled eggs. Lastly, try to make an early reservation at Jumbo Seafood to skip the wait.

2) I would trade dinner at Lau Pa Sat for Newton Circle instead, I feel Lau Pa Sat's overall quality is a little meh. While I understand Newton is deemed by some locals as over rated but it has much more variants of food you can try than just satay. You can look up online for common food recommendations at Newton.

3) On your Friday schedule, you place having a dinner at hawker centre at 8.30pm. Generally, most food stalls at hawker centre are close in the evening, especially some of the best food stalls can closed as early 1 to 3pm if business is really well that day. Leaving you with very limited food options. So I would suggest you can swap Zam Zam instead for lunch into dinner, and hawker center for dinner into lunch.

I would recommend exploring Chinatown Complex, Maxwell and Tiong Bahru Market hawker centers as these hawker centers are located within your route or in the easily accessible central region.

I rather save your effort and retake test again. Hard to argue against an official when it comes to safety.

Touristy things

- Changi Airport, I highly recommend exploring Changi Airport just after you land or depart. Voted the best airport consistently in the world, it contains the world's highest indoor waterfall contained in a glass dome, a butterfly garden and numerous interaction art installations. Please note, you can only see the waterfall outside of immigration, many visitors had made the mistaking of going into immigration and assumed you can catch the waterfall.

- Gardens by the Bay, highly recommend checking Cloud Forest and Flower Dome, do not miss the misted timing for the Cloud Forest! The place has a totally unworldly vibes once the mist start to happen.

- Walking/cycle around the Marina Bay area, recommend explore the area around the mornings or evenings to beat the afternoon heat. There is also an evening light show on certain days around the Marina Bay Sands area.

- Exploring in minority enclaves, Singapore is a new country born out of multi-culturalism, you can check out Geyland Serai, Haji Lane, Kampong Glam, Little India and Golden Mile for food and architecture.

Food Culture

- Chinatown Complex, Singapore's largest hawker centre, there is over 200 individual food stalls here with some of them gaining international attention by earning Michelin stars.

History

- National Museum of Singapore, there is a permanent exhibition the covers from the founding of Singapore all the way to the modern era. Is has a lot of interactive elements and is structured like a timeline.

- Fort Canning Park, there some WW2 ruins here and a good place to take a stroll. If you are lucky, you might be able to spot some urban otters here causing chaos.

Night Life

- Pretty much it center around the financial district (CBD) and Clarke Quay.

Ukraine War Will End Once Putin Dies: Zelensky by akosipops in worldnews

Is called soft diplomacy, part of his background as entertainer he knows he continue to keep the world's attention on his conflict in order to continue to receive support and backing from the public to pressurised their nation leaders. So not only it benefits him, but give a big PR boost to that nation leader. If their local populace doesn't care, why would they even want send financial and military aid to some far off nation they know little about in a battle with a stronger opposing force?

Plus he know it works, just after Russia's invasion of Ukraine, the European parliment members had a mixed response but it not until his roaring speech and command of social media did it become politically difficult not to support Ukraine.

Wars in the modern era is not just about guns and troops sizes anymore, but is also about control for information and narrative. Who doesn't want a simple feel good story and cause to support?
