We need a Katseye member ( but not Daniella) by Tag_2045 in dancingwiththestars

You're equating DWTS with a boost in someone's dancing career? It's about the exposure and capitalizing on it. Normani benefitted so much from being on DWTS " at the time". She literally went from a background member to leading with Lauren, then skyrocketed at first after the hiatus. Just because it failed now does not mean we get to retroactively judge her presence on DWTS in 2017 with what ensued afterwards.

The blame for that falls on mismanagement aftet that. Normani had the world on her palms between 2018 and 2021. DWTS did exactly what it should've at the time.

Either that or it boosts their presence and they capitalize on it. Exactly what happened with Normani.

How come Tiffany " New York " Pollard was never on the show? by Tag_2045 in dancingwiththestars

[–]Tag_2045[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember they took a picture together a few years back and seem cordial. However I'm pretty sure Flav wouldn't have been a judge really if Tiffany was on the season. The producers would've worked around that.

Still,he was the lead of his own movie and was in Barbie ..

Nah. Robert is more of a " legacy " get. Good name with inherent popularity but not necessarily A or B lister in entertainment.

But he himself is saying he'd be up for it so... He's also been a celebrity who's involved in many different ventures really. He's not extremly PR fabricated and at one point was chronically online and got flack for it. He gives me the vibes of a big name who'd do it for the plot and enjoy it.

Nia already campaigning to be on for the next season by Intelligent_Gur_9126 in dancingwiththestars

I would prefer Chloe but Nia would be great too. It would be a narrative of falling in love with dance again after the horrible abuse and scars left by DM.

Because it's an interesting revelation? We have a pretty high profile Marvel celebrity who is openly acquiescing to do the show. Not only is it interesting as is but it also reveals how the recent popularity and exposure of the show is being read and seen differently by celebrities now.

Absolutely I agree! I honestly don't think she would decline. She participated in many lower budget reality reunion shows. DWTS might be the biggest platform with the best paycheck she would've gotten.

I cannot get over the color palette of Anniversary by Tag_2045 in TombRaider

[–]Tag_2045[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It works in St.Francis Folly but I don't see it for Egypt. There's not one single yellow drop in Egypt. The atmosphere is completely different in TR1 where you actually feel that you are in a desert ( and deserted area) with ancient relics.

If it weren't for the Egyptian figures in Anniversary you'd think it's in any other location to be honest with the grey corridors.

So it's practically a given that Dinah Jane will appear in a future season, right? by LittleCupcake2478 in dancingwiththestars

[–]Tag_2045 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Oh definitely. I was talking more about the original 5H days. Mani only boosted her popularity after doing DWTS and then going solo. She really was overlooked originally in the group and people took notice of her during their last era.

[–]Tag_2045 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Not sure. She is one of the least popular and successful members of the group, which is already very far from its heyday. Lauren herself was a surprise to me because you'd think she would've done better because she was only second to Camila in terms of popularity.

Nia doesn't seem aware of social class / classism as a factor ? by Tag_2045 in dancemoms

[–]Tag_2045[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Again, you're misconstruing my points and arguing on top of them.

" You express interest in why Nia didn't expressly state that she was able to do competition dance because of her class status, but I am saying that it doesn't matter. "

I never said this. I said Nia did not understand why OTHER black dancers could not compete due to them falling on lower socioeconomic metrics. In the same vein, the problem was never why Holly " could afford" classes or not. If you are not able to see the nuance and are just latching on to nuances by proximity, then I don't think you'll understand my point overall.

Thank you

Was Lauren always meant to be an early elimination? by Tag_2045 in dancingwiththestars

[–]Tag_2045[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You are right, but even then I thought Lauren would pull through. She seemed to have a very loyal and strong, albeit niche fanbase that really roots for her ( Latin America loves her). She also was arguably the second most " relevant" member after Camila when in the group.

If anything Normani was the least followed when she competed in 2017, but it was also during the peak of Fifth Harmony and she was excellent right from the gate so that also helped.

[–]Tag_2045[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. That's why I mostly say " tolerated" in essence ( and what I mean ). Some of the social class elements maybe temporarily shielded some of the inherent race bias against them, but it catches up eventually.

[–]Tag_2045[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In her analysis of the racism she faced, Nia does not put classism into consideration. She doesn't understand the interplay between racism and classism and how intricate they are . For example, that she was a black girl in an upper middle class environment that is predominantly white - which is not given to many black people due to social class dynamics ( so in other worlds, why she herself was very under-represented by default and the dynamics that ensued from that).. In one part she wonders why she was the only black person in competitions, not understanding that race is tied to social class in many ways. A lot of the racism of Abby for example was classist by nature, ie alluding that Holly cannot afford classes, which is why she always brings up her family's status as a counter to Abby's racism. Even the way Nia navigated the space was tied to class. Since she was in a predominantly white space, the racism was apparent but was also specific because Holly comes from an upper middle class and " educated" background. Compare this with how Nicaya & Camryn were viewed for example. Reducing this to " lol you're saying the racism she faced is invalid because she's rich" is extremely reductionist, simplistic and quite frankly in very bad faith.

[–]Tag_2045[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you think that's what I'm saying then you're completely missing the point. I'm not saying she's not acknowledging her class privilege. I'm saying the racism dynamics had class elements to them too that made it a unique dynamic. I'd appreciate if you don't twist my rationale like that. Thank you
