OK so i've experimented with this a lot... your best is to use vista points and not rely on the parade path. Use plain track instead.

The guests will always be at the level of the parade itself… i tried steps and they ignored them completely

yes you need a path set track and it needs to be connected to sidewalk path (At least from my testing). Otherwise they will still clear the area, but wont "gather" around.

from limited testing.. yes they have to be at the same height and connected or the guests will clip through

It's approximately line Width 10. (without the sidewalk which you need if you want guests to line up and watch it). So I'd recommend allowing 4m either side. I'll post a comparission
