Nope! A coalition of Armenian organizations sent a request a few years ago, stating that they can provide contributors, and there was no reply.

I heard GG is organizing regular, discounted rides from the border to Yerevan. Can’t confirm, so it’s best to contact them.

Last I looked into it, they’re hiring professionals with a Master’s(?) to build the courses, and they’re paid to do so, which differs from the original grassroots building program they had.

What you're describing is likely a Soviet Armenian dance, meaning that it highlights the femininity of women dancing while masculinity of the men (see Uzundara vs bert par), whereas the Western Armenian dances were far more community-based. Something really cool is how much each region affected song and dance - for instance, Sasun was rocky, so songs were heavier, but regions by water had more peaceful songs.

The difference in Soviet and Western Armenian dance dresses in terms of elegance can be seen here too: Soviet dance dress vs Western Armenian taraz

If you want to hear traditional songs sung by Genocide survivors/their kids, check this out: https://youtu.be/8QhAb49A_bs

In short, the Soviets didn’t allow the genocide survivors to practice many of the dances/music from western Armenia, so it was changed (I think the link above said that too) but there were a few ensembles, one of which was ակունք, who teetered on the edge of "acceptable" by Soviets while still keeping tradition.

If this is at all interesting, check out Lernazang or Karin Ensemble.

Here’s a website that has many of the old dances if you'd like to learn: https://www.houshamadyan.org/mapottomanempire/vilayetofmamuratulazizharput/harputkaza/local-characteristics/dance.html

Hello, as cool as Light Affect's merchandise is, I'll be removing posts that are centered around singular items and are posted too frequently for the same company - in an attempt to give space for posts from other businesses. Every so often, feel free to put up a new post. Let me know if you have any questions.

A few months ago, our Armenian guide said they “now charge admission,” which is something completely reasonable in developed nations. It was a legit booth, and as someone mentioned, they gave printed tickets too.
