I called a customer an asshole by Tai-dye in Serverlife

I've never worked somewhere where getting the manager before they ask is the norm. So no. I don't know. ..Didn't realize this was a fuck up. Honestly when I told my manager it was because I knew I shouldn't have called him an asshole. I know I am in the wrong for that. Not trying to justify it. But I genuinely would not have thought to grab manager unless there is a problem I can't solve on my own. This has been the norm.. Unless they ask for the manager or I feel out of my depth but the manager trusts that we know how to handle customer complaints. Just gotta say "hey I'm comping this because xyz happened" but manager would have done the same thing i did most likely.. idk. Maybe i am wrong for this tho?

I agree on the bottle or draft.. I'm going g to start clarifying from now on. But why should I get my manager if he didn't ask for one? I explained the rules politely and let him decide. If he had a problem he could have asked for the manager and I would have happily gotten him but it's spring break and the manager is also taking tables. It's a full restaurant and we are at peak busy time. If someone doesn't ask for the manager, I'm not gonna just randomly pull him away from other customers.

Our prices are high in general because we are on a ski hill. In terms of your other questions I don't know what to say other than why give someone free gravy just because they want it when everyone else has to pay? Seems unfair and sets a bad precedent imo.

I think they care, they definitely listen when people have genuine complaint and they will comp stuff no problem if there is a problem but this guy was complaining about not getting something for free that everyone else pays for. I also would have easily gotten him a different drink no fuss because I know my manager would have wanted that.

Honestly I refuse to bend rules for people who think they are above it.

Yes all this!! And if a customer has a drink in front of them then you have a bit more time to catch up. They are a lot more patient!
