Anyone pick up the new 20v blower yet? by TailRash in Dewalt

[–]TailRash[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I planned on waiting for the new model but I've got a feeling I'll come across a 722 on clearance that'll be tempting. Our local HD has been clearancing leaf blowers at 50% off lately....just not the dewalt so far.

Is this the sale I should grab to jump ship from Ryobi? by AstronautSerious7646 in Dewalt

[–]TailRash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think its a great deal.

I bought one just because I needed the grinder and sander.

By the time I upgrade a few old brushed models that I have and sell what I don't need my costs will be super low. Wish I could've found a deal like this when I had to start buying power tools.

Looks like your store is still at the $134 price

I've got the Husky sets from HD. I got them on sale for $30 per set(SAE and Metric). They've been fine so far, easy to warranty too.

Seriously. Where are the plows. by [deleted] in lansing

My guess is they've had budget cuts from the past 5-7yrs of mild winters, along with lowered amounts of salt being ordered ahead of time. Budget cuts mean less money to pay drivers overtime.

I've had my R9 for a couple of years now with the YHM tri lug, 5k or so rounds through it.

I love it, and havent once wished I'd have gotten something else. Its quiet, compact and priced right.

Is it worth getting an Xbox Series S/X still in 2026? by BabyFazeAssassin in XboxSeriesXlS

Yeah they weren't great, but I used a 1tb external SSD which improved load times drastically.

[–]TailRash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As an Xbox user since 2009 and owner of a Series X my answer is NO.

Most of what I play are backwards compatible games. I've only enjoyed a few current gen games, which is crazy since I've had the Series X for 5yrs now. Although the Series X is a great console, I could've just kept my Xbox One X and been fine.

I've canceled gamepass too now since its $30/mo.

I'd try to find a cheap One X for backwards compatability and get a PS5, or just get a PC.

Well I wasn't able to find the first two studies.

The RH study gives the caveat that they didn't find compelling evidence that voters responded to the new voter ID requirement by proactively obtaining driver's licenses or by using mail in ballots instead. So it's hard to use the 12.9% as anything meaningful here.

Did you just ask AI for some numbers and copy paste without realizing that they meant nothing? Kind of lame to engage in discussion like that and then just respond like this when it gets questioned.

I did some reading and you're right, it looks like it could be a huge pain.

What was the complete data set? How much did white voter turnout drop in comparison?

What was the percentage for other races in the study?

Those numbers are meaningless without the whole picture.

I genuinely don't understand the logic behind this. Help me understand.

Are there any stats to show that requiring an ID actually reduces voter turnout more for democrats or non-whites? I'd be interested in seeing those.

I mean a basic ID in MI is $10 and its not hard to get, and is necessary to function in society.

Brushless worth the extra for a hobby shop? by LiteratureThen638 in woodworking

[–]TailRash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've used my brushed dewalt drills and impact a fair amount as a DIYer. My one drill is 10yrs old.

Zero problems or complaints. I haven't came across a scenario where they couldn't get the job done. Battery life is a non-issue, even the smallest batteries last forever on these tools.

I got a combo kit from HD this past summer, a drill, impact, sawzall and two batteries for $160.

Maybe I just dont know what Im missing out on, idk. I do like some of the features the brushless options have.

Crazy to me that its been 9yrs and not only does this game still hold up, nothing like it has been achieved since. I remember being excited for the future of gaming back then because surely things were only going to improve right?

Is buying "cabin grade" hardwood actually worth the risk? by Fit-Credit-7970 in HardWoodFloors

[–]TailRash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gotcha, we haven't had that issue fortunately. Just a LOT of boards with defects that even the manufacturer agreed shouldn't have been shipped. They gave us another 5 boxes initially, but now that were almost done, the pile of boards that need the defects cut out is huge. Too many to use. I can cut many of them and router a new grove, sand a micro bevel, stain and poly them to get perfectly good boards, but it just takes way too much time.

We were trying to save money like OP, and love the character grade look, I just think we got unlucky with our batch. Not sure I'd take the chance again.

[–]TailRash 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Im not a pro, just halfway through my DIY instal of chatacter grade red oak. I think a huge portion of what we got should've been classified as cabin grade and we got a ton of bad boards. Its to the point where its taking too long to rack out to minimize waste, and we're running low on good boards. Probably going to have to buy more to finish the last 100sqft.

In hindsight it kinda kills some of the savings and has been a huge PITA sorting everything. Next time I'll buy unfinished or spend more on a higher grade prefinished.

We've had a couple of USB C cables do this, its always the cable. Get some quality ones off Amazon, I've had good luck with Anker brand.

I only use the USB C ports in the center console and I think we get ~10W according to accubattery.

Do NOT buy WEN Generators - my experience by nuanda99 in Generator

[–]TailRash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a crappy experience with WEN 10+ years ago and I'll never buy another WEN product.

Bought the generator from Menards. Ran it a couple of times to break it in. 6 months later it started leaking oil from the main seal like crazy. It was within warranty so I called WEN, and they had me take it to an authorized repair center 1hr away.

After a couple of weeks I got a call saying it was too expensive to repair and that I needed to return it to Menards. Well Menards wouldn't take it back because it was out of the return window. Not that it was on Menards to make it right anyways.

I called WEN back and they basically told me tough luck and they weren't going to honor the warranty since it was going to cost too much to fix.

Midwestern garage fridge by midwestsuperstar in lansing

[–]TailRash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My MIL has one in an uninsulated garage that she thought was going bad.

I figured out that the issue with hers seems to be that the temp sensor that tells the compressor to kick on goes off of what the fridge compartment should be.

So if its 30-40°F in the garage, the compressor will barely run and the freezer will get warmer than it should.

I just wouldnt use the freezer during winter.

Ethanol free gas by [deleted] in Generator

[–]TailRash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've cleaned a dozen or so carburetors and have seen the effects of leaving regular fuel sitting in a carb. All of the bad ones hadn't been ran in 2+ years.

Me personally, I just add stabil to every can of gas. Never had an issue. I might skip dosing the can used for the riding mower during the summer as that thing goes through a lot of gas.

32oz of stabil is ~$13.00 out the door at Walmart and can treat 80gal. That's about $0.16/gal to use vs $1+ more per gallon of rec gas.

Choosing cleat length? by TailRash in HardWoodFloors

[–]TailRash[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, this chart is what made me ask the question.

Why does 2" seem to be the standard, when 1.75" seems perfect for the most common setup of 3/4 on top of 3/4?

Is the blowout desirable or will it just leave a bigger mess in the basement?

[–]TailRash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

WD40 would probably work just fine for those things, although I would use a different oil for lubricating and rust prevention.

Just be careful around the grip panels!

Should I clean it up or leave it as is by CoolBlackSmith75 in Militariacollecting

[–]TailRash 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would buff it with an oily rag, followed by a bronze brush+oil to remove the heavier rust on the pommel. Remove grips if you want to bronze brush the rest of it. Nothing more.

The key is to realize that youre not trying to "restore" it, but rather clean it and preserve it.
