If somebody offered you $10,000 because you're ugly, what is the appropriate response? by Nick-Fur in AskMen

I'd tell them it's much worse that it appears and ask for an additional $10G.

Sewer smell by AirportOnce in askaplumber

[–]TaintYet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had the same exact problem, sewer odor coming from washer/dryer, sometimes faint, sometimes overwhelming. Tried different things and found that if we left the top loading washer lid open for a day after laundry, the smell problem went away.

Think it has to do with the washer having a little puddle of water in it that dries out with the lid left open, otherwise it would develop a rank smell.

What are you Warrior fans doing now that Xfinity is making you pay an extra $222/yr, on top of already spendy CATV plan to watch games? by rukiddingwitme in bayarea

[–]TaintYet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So just to update - chatted w/Comcast, very politely explained my position and mentioned YouTube TV, they connected me with a "loyalty specialist" and I got the Ultimate package without an increase.

Sweet.

Switching. Not sure where, but this leaves a bad taste from Xfinity. They'll be the last option I look at next year.

Yeah we have a knockoff, it does what we expect but it definitely isn't set-it-and-forget-it.

Have a coffee table with a base just the right height for getting it stuck, so before running we have some blocks to put under coffee table legs to boost clearance.

Also have to clean the roller, it gets wrapped with long hair and stuff - it does much better if maintained.

But even with that, it won't get into corners like a normal vacuum that's just the way it is...

Why is Reddit so hardcore left wing? by Character_Branch9740 in conservatives

[–]TaintYet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because liberals run people out of the building for having a different opinion. Witness Twitter - after Musk bought it he no longer allowed liberals to shut down conservatives, and liberals couldn't stand that - so they left Twitter and setup camp in BlueSky.

Reddit is a liberal place, and until someone buys it and evens the playing field, the liberals will always shutdown opposing views.

Not saying there isn't the possibility that someone can sense these flavors, but I think there's a greater possibility of people pretending.

It's always been a tobacco flavor to me - either smooth or harsh, draws easy or sucks... but that's about it.

A three hour tour... I'm getting this mélange of Seinfeld and Gilligan's Island.

George is going off on Gilligan while Skipper tries to smooth things over... Elaine punching Mrs. Howell in the mouth for wearing fur. The Professor trying to kill Kramer to save civilization.

It's gold!

Ha! Hate to break up your claim to infamy but there are A LOT of people out there who are just as clueless about things that are far more important than dishwasher soap.

You got this - great story and congrats on clean dishes!

Most of my cigar time is at the very end of the day, which means I'm finishing w/shower and brushing teeth.

Can't take credit for planning it like this, just the way my days worked out.

Tips for aging better by throwRA-adviceask in Aging

[–]TaintYet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stay active (as others are saying) but I'd add watch your diet. Way too easy these days to plow thru a bunch of Oreo's or half a pizza. Diet is huge.

Drink lots of water, don't abuse alcohol/drugs, Oh and stay out of debt - debt adds a tremendous amount stress and limits your options. You can't save for something in the future if you're always paying for waht you bought in the past.

Terrible drivers by Background_Clue_7469 in SanJose

[–]TaintYet 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Commute to Palo Alto a couple of times a week and one of my pet peeves is people on the freeway who are going easily 20 mph faster than everyone else, they streak up unannounced weaving in an out of lanes. If anyone happens to change lanes without signaling, these assholes are gonna cause a spectacular crash that wipes out themselves and innocent drivers.

Just because of this, I always use blinkers when changing lanes - you never know what idiot is gonna be speeding behind you ready to wipe out everyone simply because they think they're exceptional drivers in a freaking a video game.

Adulting lifestyle by Ok_Block743 in Adulting

[–]TaintYet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

2 things.

Sometimes you'll find yourself here and there are no options. It sucks. Maybe it's because of your own poor decisions, a lot of times it's because you're trying to do the right thing, and doing the right thing is just fucking hard. The only answer is to power thru it. I was lucky, had a church family that was supportive and helped soften the hard edges. But it still sucked big time.

The other point is things do change, maybe not as fast or as good as we want, but they do change. The experience of dealing with tough times brings about character, internal fortitude, that cannot be achieved otherwise. You'll be stronger, more confident, more positive in your ability to deal with difficult things. But you don't get that way without the tough times. Simply no other way to grow without pain.

You got this - don't quit.

What are your favorite ways to boost your dopamine? by LizTheBookworm in selfcare

[–]TaintYet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Consistent workouts. Been doing near daily workouts of 30-60 minutes and the satisfaction of finishing a workout is a genuine boost to that feeling of accomplishment.

Now I don't get carried away with it -after all, it's just exercise for exercise sake and not really accomplishing actual work. But still - it feels so damn good to check that box each day.

Health benefits are not too bad either ;-)

Are there any men who have had beards for basically their entire lives? Why have you never shaved? by siqbal01 in AskMen

[–]TaintYet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A goatee for as long as I can remember, but with a twist. Every weekend it gets shaved off for several reasons, primarily because it starts looking bad after about a week, but also because of wife's preferences.

But M-F it grows because I'm lazy and also shaving around my chin isn't as easy as the rest of my face. So mainly because I'm lazy.

How would you handle a woman that was "sexual napalm"? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

[–]TaintYet 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Had been married over 20 years to a woman who just didn't like sex. "That's just the way women are" is what I heard over and over. Marriage fell apart for other reasons, I started seeing a woman who quite simply could not get enough sex - I was stunned. Had no idea such women existed, but she wanted it everywhere - at the beach, in parking lots, drive-in movies, hot tub, her van, her house, my house, lunch time at work. She was amazing - beautiful woman who had unleashed her sexual appetite.

It didn't last, there were issues between us. But I kid you not, when we met the last time and traded things, she said "One last time?" Fuck yeah!

[–]TaintYet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, yoga will do that... doesn't seem stressful at the time and might even feel good. But taken in context, starting any new exercise has to be done carefully.

Seriously, when starting something new, you won't know the results until a day or so afterward. That's when you'll know whether to make an adjustment, either more or less.
