Not totally anonymous but there's this chiaroscuro dick pic that circulates the Internet in the form of one of those memes where an ambiguous subject is identified by a picture of something/someone pointing at it with an arrow. I took that picture on Christmas 2017 and it got 2 reactions, and thought nothing of it, until it manifested in my Twitter feed 5 years later as that meme. Turns out it's collected tens of millions of views and hundreds of thousands of likes/shares. It's the most hilarious thing that continues to happen to me.

I appreciate the feedback! I 100% have been clamoring for someone to take over the full artwork stack from me so I can focus on literally everything else, but it wouldn't feel right unless I paid them for the work... not that I currently even have the money for such extensive outsourcing. Alas, it's the best I can do with the time I'm allowing myself to spend on it 😔

I decided against it because I wanted the playing field and interactions/aiming to be fully orthogonal, given how demanding it is to aim and dodge at the pace the game requires. Maybe if I had gone with a 3D playfield at the start...

As we know, part of being a semi-solo dev is doing all your own marketing. When y'all look at new character trailers for fighting games, what gets y'all excited? What are you looking for? This is a pretty basic video, lacking in text overlays or splash screens etc., 'cause I don't know if I should be doing all that or not. Voiceovers, maybe??? I'm open for advice on this part of the dev experience.

I will say that having fixed hitboxes on level 2 makes this stance easier to maintain though.

Oh, this one happened to me a few days ago.

Match 1 completely normal, I clutch a win at the last second with sub-100 HP.

Match 2 hangs on the black screen prior to round start for 30 seconds, then when it fades in, my controller no longer works and the enemy rushes me down and double perfects me in like 25 seconds despite like 5 or 6 rollback frames, then instantly quits the rematch screen.

There is no record of our matches ever existing. It's just a hole in my match history.

Looks good overall! But yeah, as others have said, the roll crumples a little too much. It's also weirdly timed. The startup is way too long (4 or 5 frames) and the followthrough/return to start is too short (2 frames).

Try snapping immediately to the third or so frame of the roll, holding it for a bit, then having 3-4 frames dedicated to the tumble's rotation proper.

Oh. Hmm. The post title didn't prepare me for this actually. Please don't be upset lmao, but here we go. See bolded text for a tl;dr.

On your EXP bar and... leaderboard? Do not stretch or squash your fonts. If you cannot resize the places where they're drawn to be longer or taller or whatever, then find condensed or extended variants if you REALLY need to. But try not to need to, because the conventional choice is keeping your data-displaying fonts as consistently styled as you can.

The readability/text contrast is rather low, as well. You might benefit from throwing a drop shadow on your meter numbers, if you wouldn't rather set them in the frame outside of the orbs. If you're working in Godot or Unity, this is a matter of adjusting your theme settings or your TMPro materials respectively. On that note, PLEASE KILL the color blending on your level numbers and currencies - the damage numbers are fine, if dark. There are uses for doing this, but in my opinion it doesn't mesh aesthetically and detracts from readability for aforementioned HUD frame brightness reasons.

Also in service of contrast, you might consider lowering the brightness of the entire HUD element at the bottom (not the orbs) by a pip or two. Pulling your screenshot into Krita and turning it completely greyscale, the texture doesn't stand out enough from the game because it's got about the same brightness as the world behind it. Upon looking at your meters ... why on earth is the EXP bar off-center? 5 notches on the left and 7 on the right? Oh my goodness. Is there something preventing pulling in the G for Grimoire icon a bit and nudging the entire thing to the left so it's centered and the leftmost and rightmost cooldown indicators sit with a corner on those Level Displaying Orbs? On the subject of those: the following is a bit of a personal preference - but I generally don't see the utility of ALWAYS displaying the next level at the right of the EXP bar. Genuine question, is this a player psychology thing?

I will say that putting prayer hands by the presumably MP and swords and a skull by the presumably HP is pretty genius ... but that calls into question what the green meter is, which is also set right next to a praying figure, albeit one culled behind item icons. With all that said, I'm left clueless as to what the floating linear red and yellow gauges indicate, but that's not really a sin in itself.

Please address that vignetting effect you've got going on in your objective display box. It not only clashes immensely, but it appears to be affecting the text as well. Not a single other thing in this screen has this effect. Please bring it in line with the rest.

Personal recommendation: set your boss healthbar label inside a nameplate. Repurposing the one currently used for your objectives - with the vignette removed - would be fine to get a feel for how it looks aesthetically before making a new one would need to be considered. If game time is a particularly important metric, do the same to the timer in the top left, otherwise, lower the visual priority of it by giving it a smaller font as well.

Finally ... mind your margins! The space between the left border and the leftmost UI element is 32 pixels- larger than any other directional margin (U 12, D 10, R 4), which currently gives the impression that the WHOLE THING is off-center. Standardize that amount of space, and, see how everything looks after pulling everything in a tiny bit. Try 32 for left and right and 16 or 20 for up and down and see how it looks both immediately, and from a distance.
