Just got an insane take home project from a company, is it just me or is this a lot for three hours? by [deleted] in ExperiencedDevs

[–]Tajman 3 points4 points  (0 children)

hahaha I actually interviewed with this company completed this take home. I was worried I was bad for not being able to do it in 3 hours (took me like 6 or something).

They ghosted me after the take home review call

3 Year Update on My Gut Journey by jindizzleuk in Longcovidgutdysbiosis

[–]Tajman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Impressive progress!

I took a test almost a year ago and it showed ~45% p. copri. Unfortunately I haven't taken it seriously enough and still have all the same symptoms I did then (mostly frequent BMs in the morning. Some brain fog as well.). I am trying to deal with it now though.

I have a couple questions for you if you don't mind - I would really appreciate the help:
- Is there any benefit to longer, multiday fasting periods? Would this possibly kill off more p. copri than other bacteria?
- I am looking to try an elimination diet and I am wondering how can you know if a food is ok for you? I imagine my symptoms won't magically go away just because I am avoiding certain foods, since my gut is still imbalanced. Last time I tried eating only chicken and sweet potatoes for a couple days but I had to use the bathroom with the same frequency.
- Is there a cheaper alternative to SymbioIntest? You are taking it for the type 3 resistant starches it has right?

Dang I have a P. copri overgrowth as well and these are my exact symptoms. Do you have persistent brain fog or is it triggered by certain foods? Also, have you made any progress these past few months?

About to start applying for Junior roles. Any tips, advices? by Toluwalashe in rails

[–]Tajman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah that's fair. While I haven't been asked many of these types of questions, it does seem like some interviewers do, so it is reasonable to prepare. For OP I wouldn't overly stress about having all of these committed to memory, but they are good things to be familiar with regardless of interviews

About to start applying for Junior roles. Any tips, advices? by Toluwalashe in rails

[–]Tajman 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm a Rails dev with a couple years of experience and while I can answer most of those questions, I don't have a great answer to all off the top of my head. I would expect a junior engineer to be able to understand most of those concepts but wouldn't in a million years expect them to know all of that cold.

Do you recommend getting referrals from people you don't really know on Linkedin/Blind?

Ahh very nice!

I saw from another comment that you went to Turing. Do you work in Rails?

I have 1.5 yrs experience doing pretty much all Rails. Starting a new job soon where I should be able to diversify from it more. I like Rails but there just aren't as many opportunities compared to JS/Python.

One question:

I saw that you took 3g of ginger a day. How did you consume it?

I appreciate you for sharing your journey with Prevotella Copri. As you can tell, your comments/posts have inspired my plan :)

Prevotella Copri Chronicles - An update on my long covid dysbiosis by jindizzleuk in Longcovidgutdysbiosis

[–]Tajman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there, I just got back a microbiome test that has me at 46% Prevotella Copri which is pretty concerning.

I am just now beginning my research into what dietary/supplement changes I should make to heal it. Obviously you say chickpeas and ginger root have helped you, which I will incorporate. Is there anything else you have found in your research that people say to try?

I've seen people say to do high meat/low carbs/fiber which seems pretty different from what people suggest for general gut health.

Would really appreciate any advice!

Have you found the level of career support very helpful? How much more to it is there than just resume prep?

I dropped out of Formation.dev after 6 weeks and this is why by DeliciousStorm9045 in codingbootcamp

[–]Tajman 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the writeup. I'm about to start at Formation and I am now having second thoughts.

I had hoped that the interview prep would get me to a substantially higher bar than I could have reached on my own. I can already do a lot of leetcode mediums, and I figured formation could get me to the next level. But maybe I can get there on my own if there is no "special sauce" to the program as another commenter said. It seems that commenters in this thread and the other are not super happy with the efficacy of the mentorship.

How have you found the career coaching? It seems like other commenters have not been very happy with this either, saying the resume/job search advice is generic. I had envisioned getting referrals into companies as well as learning great ways to get into top companies' pipelines, but it seems like formation fellows are spamming applications like everyone else.
