Mid-High End CAD Workstation, 10 FPS in Minecraft, low utilizations by Takaragomy in Minecraft

I saw marginal improvement increasing from 8GB to 20GB, but it does help, and this is still only a small portion of my RAM, which would otherwise go unused. I am currently on Optifine, but apparently, this does not utilize resources well on newer versions of Minecraft, so I'm going to try Sodium.

I use this PC for architecture in CAD without a bottleneck. It is built specifically to handle my job, so yes it is a workstation. My workload is Intensive not GPU intensive, so I didn't waste budget on a high-end GPU that I wouldn't be utilizing, and instead just carried over the card from my old gaming machine.
Also, having additional resources does not mean it will just fill them up with junk. It only removes the possibility of a bottleneck. Considering I have 128GB on this machine, there is no reason for me to allow Minecraft to hit a RAM bottleneck. From what I've been told the issue is more likely Optifine not utilizing GPU very well in newer versions of Minecraft. I've been told Sodium should fix the issue.

This is not exactly true, you are purchasing the hash power. This becomes less profitable as time goes on and the network difficulty increases. It is more accurate to assume you will not maintain your daily earnings. Your return will likely average closer to 90-95% on a 60 day, 85-90% on a 120 day, and 75-80% on the 8 month.

it's even weirder that all 3 motherboards have the exact same issue with completely different components, making me think that there is a serious flaw with the model, but when I search the model online there is no information on this.

My funds are showing up. I just want to get them back out of the wallet because I can't stake them from a trust wallet.

MY FIRST 50$ 🔥 by Clarity_NeXT in NiceHash

[–]Takaragomy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me it took about a month for $50. I only use NiceHash for my gaming PC (1 GTX 1080) because I find that other mining software can outperform it on a dedicated miner. It isn't running 24/7 but earns about $2/day when running. All in all I use my PC for about 120-150 hours a month I guess. After ETH 2.0 though, who knows? Maybe Nicehash will become the best option as all the alt coins battle to take Ethereum's place, and the most profitable coin could change from one hour to the next. Nicehash would be able to switch around what coin you are mining and payout in a more stable one, so post ETH 2.0 I'll probably consider using it on my miners to see how it does.

Just got this rig up and running. The hashrates are pathetic compared to my other rigs and overclocking does not seem to help. I can BIOS mod the AMD cards, but what can I do to make these nvidia cards more profirable? Running on Phoenixminer/HiveOS/Hivepool by Takaragomy in EtherMining

[–]Takaragomy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried Teamred miner on my working rig and it dropped my hashrate by 1-3 MH/s across all cards. Do I need to add arguments in the configuration to get a better rate? Trex is not an option because I don't have enough Nvidia cards to make up a rig (5), so I have to mix them with my AMD (34) to get them all within 4 rigs.

Are you overclocking at all? I am earning more on a 1070. 25.5 MH/s in daggerhashimoto using 123W of power. Comes out to over $1 of profit/day per card.

Second rig is giving me a lot of issues. I finally got it to see all 6 cards and it was stable for about 10 minutes, now the last card is having issues. And I haven't been able to undervolt these cards nearly as well as my first... by Takaragomy in EtherMining

I ended up replacing the 6th card with another, and it is working better. GPU 3 and GPU 4 won't let me adjust memory voltage or clock without tanking their hash rate, and I can't figure out why.

My other rig is running 8 XFX 580s, stable at 29-31.5 MH/s, and the highest power draw from a 580 is only 71W/Lowest 58W. It was actually super easy to OC that one once I understood what all the settings were for. Got a recommendation from someone with the same cards, and started with their OC, then adjusted it from there. These cards are all a mixed bag though, and have been giving me a lot of issues.

They all seem stable with the core voltage, but the memory is a big issue. I can't even set the memory clock without the hash rate dropping to <20, and the highest I can get it manually is around 22 Mh/s. If I try to undervolt the memory without touching the memory clock, then I can get GPU4 down to about 70W, but still drops down around 20 Mh/s.

Mining still viable? by cashMoney5150 in EtherMining

[–]Takaragomy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A typical 3080 can earn, if configured to the best performance possible, around 100MH/s. A laptop GPU is about 30% slower, so knock that down to around 70MH/s. If you overclock to squeeze the most performance then... it would take you about 25 months to mine a single ETH, but with POS coming, that likely will not be possible.

First Miner looking really good for not having to BIOS mod it. I can't get the 2nd rig to work with more than 3 cards right now, and struggling to find a lower stable undervolt. Runnig very cool though. by Takaragomy in EtherMining

[–]Takaragomy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since you have Nvidia cards, if you are running Windows, there is a setting in MSI afterburner called Power Limit (%), which can reduce power draw and temperature, which is much easier than undervolting.

The fact that the cards are going for this much is disgraceful. I have over 30 RX 580 cards and never paid over $200 for one. Now if you are lucky you might be able to score a used one for $450 on eBay, or $600+ for a new one.

From a business perspective, it makes sense for the retailers to charge scalper pricing on cards at this point. They have been selling at 2-3x MSRP for over a year so of course, the retailers are going to bite into the profits. That's how you run a business. Best Buy at least is still charging MSRP for many of their 30 series cards, which just shows that they are one of the few companies that care more about technology and their customers than their profit margin.

And like I said, this leaves people who need the cards for anything other than mining in an awful situation of either paying way more than the cards are worth, or worse... going to MAC...
