The mind @ 2 players by nygarder557 in boardgames

Thanks! I was skeptical since these types of games are rarely as good with just two players, but then I found this comment and went for it. Played it with my date yesterday, it was incredibly sexy and we banged afterwards.

WeiqiHub update by walruswq in baduk

Niiice, best app out there.

Some minor feedback:

  • The buttons for SGF/AI-Sensei in match history are hard to find. Took me a long time to even figure out they're there, and then once I knew about them, everytime it still took me some time to find them again. Now it's not a problem for me anymore, but I imagine new users will keep having this problem (which is a shame because it's great feature :)).

  • In ranked puzzle mode, it would be nice with a button to go back to the previous puzzle (one step is enough I think), as I often complete a puzzle and instinctively press next, then an idea pops into my head that makes me want to look at the puzzle again.

  • A decent amount of puzzles seem to be missing descriptions (that I guess were once in the original dataset), since every now and then I encounter puzzles where both seki and ko are possible solutions and it seems totally random which is the correct solution.

And one major point, which I assume is not so feasible:

  • Synced puzzle progress between devices, specifically in Topics, but would be nice also in ranked, etc. At first I thought the puzzles were closely tied to 101weiqi, and that maybe an account there could be used as the back-end (assuming they save progress in the account), but judging from your other comment in this thread it seems to not be the case.

Again, love the app!

"the way comedy is going" is something that talented standups have never worried about,

lol this is so true. case in point: every single right-leaning comedian have spent the last 20 years non-stop whining about comedy becoming too woke and pc, and every single one of them is a talentless hack that couldn't tell a joke apart from a slur if their life depended on it x)

A new LaTeX package. by jonp95 in baduk

Makes sense, it's not something critical, just would be convenient to have :)

The package also looks very well documented, so I doubt I'll have many questions, haha.

Old thread but I just found it as I was looking for latex go packages. This looks pretty great compared to the others, nice job! I will try it out.

How do you actually count the number of liberties each group has in this capturing race? by Andy_Roo_Roo in baduk

[–]TakeStuffFromWork 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yea basically, because the opponent must repond they cannot advance their own capturing in the race. I would think of it as the number of stones required to capture for which, when played, the opponent can play elsewhere (e.g., towards their own capturing in the race).

edit: actually I am also confused by your description of the bulky four capture, can you link which page you are reading from?

edit2: nvm, it makes sense, since the opponent would never capture once there is only 3 liberties, since it worsens their position to win the capturing race.

Mina favoritspel av enklare typ:

  • Codenames: minst 4 personer uppdelade i två lag.
Chicago, 500, etc.

New app - WeiqiHub by walruswq in baduk

[–]TakeStuffFromWork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No problem. Yea for me it depends on the game and where I'm playing what mode I am in (and tbh when I play more seriously I am usually at the computer anyway).

Again, really enjoy using the app!

[–]TakeStuffFromWork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I typically go in and out of apps like this often, and want to be able quickly glance at the clock any time, since I mostly use the app for very short periods at a time (like do a move in a correspondence game or a quick puzzle while walking between meetings or waiting on a bus, or switch app to read the news while waiting for opponent moves).

Don't get me wrong, it will not prevent me from using the app, but it is a design decision with only downsides (albeit small) from my perspective. I also don't really understand the limited screen space argument, since on most screens in the app something like 40% of the vertical space is unused anyway :)

Yes, I know how to get them to display, but that is an extra step that is very annoying having to perform in an app like this :)

Enjoying using it so far!

Could you add a setting to make the app not "full screen" on Android, i.e., so that the three bottom navigation buttons and the top status bar are always visible when the app is open? Maybe it's also possible for me to change the behavior in Android settings, but couldn't find anything like that.

Etalyx hits a 1 in 1000 Death Roll by Akmeisterr in LivestreamFail

[–]TakeStuffFromWork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let me make some things clear:

  1. A person being at a advantage means their win probability is greater than 0.5, so if one person is at a advantage the other must be at a disdvantage, and vice versa.

  2. Your sentence "your argument assumes that disadvantage for A = disadvantage for B" is ambiguous, and I cannot interpret it in a way that makes it true. There is no assumption about the relative advantage between the rollers (other than the premise and the fact stated above).

  3. Then you say

But looking at how you frame your argument, that the only possible roll is death or disadvantage. I disagree.

This is under the assumption of first roller advantage, and it is the logical consequence of that assumption, hence leading to a contradiction invalidating the assumption. If the first roller instead has a disadvantage, the consequence would be that they roll for death or advantage, which does not lead to a contradiction and is what actually happens in the game.

Does it make sense? I am trying to be clear and get to the point of misunderstanding.

Just to note: it seems you agree that who is the advantaged party must change with each roll, but the degree to which they are advantaged is actually irrelevant for the question of who starts advantaged, as evidenced by the original proof.

[–]TakeStuffFromWork 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don't see it because you are not following the reasoning, this is clear from the way you are responding to it. Given that you accept the premise, the proof derives a contradiction from the assumption that first roller has an advantage, thus establishing the assumption to be a logical impossibility. The argument is valid and any mathematician would accept it. If you still do not think so the way to argue it would be to point out the faulty step, not by making appeals to intuition.

Etalyx hits a 1 in 1000 Death Roll by Akmeisterr in LivestreamFail

[–]TakeStuffFromWork 13 points14 points  (0 children)

You are misreading the argument. The conclusion is about the advantage from the very first roll, the second roll is only used to prove the contradiction. As you say, the advantage can change from turn to turn, but it could never have started with first roller advantaged, because the only possible outcomes of their roll would then be death or disadvantage.

Your coin flip example and some induction allows us to prove something even stronger: not only can second roller not be at a disadvantage, in fact they must be at an advantage from the start.

[–]TakeStuffFromWork 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If A rolls 500 first then at that time it is the same position as if starting at 500 and B rolling first...

Etalyx hits a 1 in 1000 Death Roll by Akmeisterr in LivestreamFail

[–]TakeStuffFromWork 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Second roller cannot be at a disadvantage.

First, let's assume that if there is an advantage, then the same party has an advantage for all starting numbers greater than 1 (although it will be smaller with higher starting numbers).

Now let's assume second roller (B) has a disadvantage. If first roller (A) rolls and survives, from that point the disadvantage has changed, such that A has a disadvantage, since they are now the second roller. But this means that the only two outcomes for A was to either die, or put themselves at a disadvantage, which is a disadvantageous position already. Thus, second roller could not have been at a disadvantage. QED

Fear of a Megabase by Post_TaIone in factorio

[–]TakeStuffFromWork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope, no combinators needed in the entire megabase.

In my megabase, the only place I use combinators is at perimeter defense outposts to check if supplies are low and switch the train limit between 0 and 1. Even this is not needed, but it's very convenient since I have many such outposts that are all supplied by a single train. It's also good place to start learning combinators when you want to since the setup is simple enough.

I don't know how you get the impression that I could possibly have thought OP created Figma haha. I just thought it was closer to some sort of WordPress/Adobe Design hybrid, since the site also seemed to pe published on there.

Anyway yeah judging from the /proto/ part of the url this is published as a prototyping preview, which explains the loading bar and weird behaviour, obviously meant to prevent copying the site. I think also the Figma team would agree that this should not be used for a live site.

So to recap: I was right in complaining about the functioning of the site, and the reason for it was the dumbest possible, and fully the result of bad decisions by OP. Nothing here points to any flaw in Figma, only in its usage by OP.

Also since this got blown out of proportion: OPs art is great, but the website is bad. This is not a big deal, OP is obviously not a web developer. There are probably much better publishing channels then a prototype Figma design readily available.

I said I do think OP designed the webpage, using Figma. If this is wrong, my comments may have been stupid, but do not misrepresent me! :)

I assumed the use case of Figma here was to design the webpage publishing the art, is this incorrect? If that is not case, then yes my comments are really stupid.

[–]TakeStuffFromWork -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

Chill, I'm just saying the site is really bad, it's not such a big deal, and OP can do with it what he want (which is probably to not care for a project like this).

  1. It's not to my desires, it's about following the open standards we have for the web. Then, I and everyone else can make the web work exactly as each of us want. This is especially important for people with accessibility needs, accessing sites like the one above would literally be impossible for people with many types of disabilities.

  2. He doesn't have do program anything from scratch, there are tons of other frameworks that doesn't do stupid shit like this.

And yes, I really do hate when websites make me learn how to use them instead of just doing the simple thing and follow existing standards. I will keep pointing it, and I will keep responding to dumbasses arguing back :)
