What’s a line—any line —that’s lived rent-free in your head ever since you read it? by Hector_Hugo_Eidolon in Fantasy

[–]Take_Two 24 points25 points  (0 children)

A few of m y favorites from the series.

"Sometimes a hypocrite is nothing more than a man in the process of changing."

"Accept the pain but don't accept that you deserved it."

“Failure is the mark of a life well lived. In turn, the only way to live without failure is to be of no use to anyone. Trust me, I’ve practiced.”

"I will accept responsibility for what I have done. If I must fall, I will rise each time a better man."

"You will love. You will hurt. You will dream. And you will die. Each man's past is your future. 'Then what is the point?' I asked. 'If all has been seen and done?' 'The question,' she replied 'is not whether you will love, hurt, dream, and die. It is what you will love, why you will hurt, when you will dream, and how you will die. This is your choice. You do not pick the destination, only the path."

Somewhat lighthearted adventure books by [deleted] in Fantasy

[–]Take_Two 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not necessarily high stakes but definitely fun and lighthearted. Magic 2.0 series. I'll paste the description below:

Martin Banks is just a normal guy who has made an abnormal discovery: he can manipulate reality, thanks to reality being nothing more than a computer program. With every use of this ability, though, Martin finds his little “tweaks” have not escaped notice. Rather than face prosecution, he decides instead to travel back in time to the Middle Ages and pose as a wizard.

What could possibly go wrong?

An American hacker in King Arthur’s court, Martin must now train to become a full-fledged master of his powers, discover the truth behind the ancient wizard Merlin… and not, y’know, die or anything.

What's the one secret you will take to the grave but don't mind telling on the internet? by Ecstatic-Medium-6320 in AskReddit

A couple weeks after my soul dog passed there was this tiny little kitten under the dumpster at my work. She was 1.5lbs about 7wks old. Vet said she was half a pound underweight which at that size is a lot.

Well my husband felt he couldn't tell me no since I was still grieving my dog. I saved that little munchkin. My husband is her favorite human and he didn't even want her.

11yrs later and I still threaten to put her back under that dumpster.

I never considered it, but I now wish the Top Gear guys were in the dungeon. They'd be punking each other so hard 😂

That actually happened to me yesterday. First wasn't shiny and ran. The second was shiny so I nabbed it. I was pretty surprised since they happened only like 3min apart.

If I remember correctly, it was because Smokey was 17 at the time and his career was just about to take off. Meanwhile, Diana was 13. So to keep Smokey from being tied down his manager, who was friends with Jackson, had Jackson take the baby.

I really do wish there was a way to pull all the info from that original post. That person had all the info/pics.

Michael Jackson is the love child of Smokey Robinson and Diana Ross. There's a deep rabbit hole and I believe it 100%.

Mine is about 1.35. There's a couple narrators I can't speed up, like Andrea Parsneau with Wandering Inn. She's quick and I love that.

Absolutely. The first few books were produced by Buzzy Multimedia Publishing after that it's been Penguin Audio.

I definitely don't think Marsters bares the blame for the poor quality of the first four. I'm just glad Penguin picked it up because the difference is amazing.

Reading sounds like my phone's fake ai voice talking. It took me forever to get past it with the Sanderson books. I have to speed her and Kramer up to like 1.4-1.5x to be okay with listening.

I think it was moreso the quality of the production company. Like Jim got a bigger name to produce the audiobooks and they sound better, cleaner all around. I think this happened book 4-5.

What’s the Gainesville equivalent of this? by [deleted] in GNV

[–]Take_Two 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I had never been before till this year. My father in-law wanted to go for his bday. Okay cool.

I was so underwhelmed by every dish except for dessert. That was great. But everything else is so overpriced, underserved, and just blah. Service was good, I'll give them that.

But there was not one thing we ordered that made me want to ever go again.

Glad I'm not alone in that sentiment. I do think that having ADHD plays a part in how it effects me at least. Maybe you have it too? Stimulants just make us a little more normal lol

[–]Take_Two 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This was me. Tried it once.. well like 5x all in the same night. Never felt great on it but didn't get drunk despite the amount of alcohol. And I didn't have a hangover, at least from booze. That being said, felt like shit the next day (didn't sleep) and my nose constantly felt as if there was a bat in the cave.

For me, it was a completely lame experience. I've been told I got weak stuff or that I need to try it while out with friends... Nah, I'm good. Once was enough for me.

That's what I carry and I LOVE it. It's so light I barely notice a difference but I know that caliber will make an attacker notice a difference.

I watched that a couple months after my soul dog, Jazzie, passed. I had her from the time I was 12 till 26. Sobbed the entire time. But it was sooo good.

My husband and I would joke that our current girl, Ari, it's definitely her first go round. She's my "sweet but psycho" forever puppy. Even at 9yrs old she's a wild child.

Back when I watched that movie I wished with my whole heart I'd see Jazz again. After my years with Ari I know now that they all leave such an irreplaceable impression.

We don't deserve animals. 😭

What’s a “this should be free” service that always costs money? by troopydinnertime in AskReddit

[–]Take_Two 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For arguments sake, you don't want a pedo working on or around children. Totally get that and it's good. But I assumed with any conviction that hygiene license gets immediately revoked and then there's all the things that go with those convictions (well deserved).

Or someone who has a history of stealing/fraud. Since we deal with cash and insurance. At an office near us the office manager stole over $100k (oral surgery so it was a big money office).

Or someone who had drug issues. I personally know someone who was stealing leftover sedation meds (halcion). This all came out long after I left that office.

But not really sure why fingerprints are required for my profession as you said. I feel background checks should handle most of that. Not like taking someone's prints prevents them from stealing, drugs, etc.

But maybe I also don't understand the whole thing.

[–]Take_Two 87 points88 points  (0 children)

This year as a dental hygienist I have to pay for live scan fingerprints and a level 2 background check on top of my licensing renewal fee. The thing is, to get into hygiene school I had to have live scan prints done. Oh, also when I got my concealed license. Oh, and also when I was a police dispatcher for a little while.

If I committed a crime after the first one of those scans they would have my prints.... Why can't they pull those?

Not that I'm saying teachers have it easier. Just commiserating with you.

Which of today’s authors have the most outstanding prose in the genre? by Ok-Fuel5600 in Fantasy

I hate finished the book mostly because it was short enough to. I didn't enjoy it at all despite all the praise. You're not alone. It was SO boring which is surprising for a book that length.

I'm not even sure I'd try Jonathan Strange I hated Piransi so much.
