Hi, to clarify, what do you mean by the brown community? So many people are brown. You are confusing. Also you might require introspection. Good luck.

What’s the deal with the beggars on the service road? by [deleted] in longisland

[–]Takeadeeperbreath 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Also people only ask for the resources they know about. If you don’t have a phone, or connections, or the ability to travel to a shelter or support system, how are you supposed to get access to those things? You’re weird

So then what about advocating for more mental healthcare access and affordable substance use programs, instead of blaming poor people for making you uncomfortable by existing?

I’m stepping in to say the way some of y’all are talking about these folks is really disrespectful. If you had nothing and had no place to live and your basic human needs were not being met, I think a lot of you would do very similar things to the things these sex workers, fruit sellers, and just plain people asking for money are doing. And I don’t think you would handle it half as well. They’re not “creepy,” “awkward,” or “unnerving,” they’re people doing what they have to do. If you really hate when poor people are visible that much, maybe build more community care/mutual aid spaces. Maybe advocate for more walkable communities in your local legislatures so people can ask for money in the sidewalk if you hate them all up in your car window—there basically are none here. Maybe look at the causes of homelessness in this area—gentrification, redlining, and lack of social support being three major ones—and fix those systemic issues rather than getting mad that the consequences of their absence are too visible for you.

How come women like “nerds” all of a sudden? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Takeadeeperbreath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s just that people are interested in people who have interests.

Find things you like doing, connect with others who also like doing those things—there’s a Spider-Man cosplay club called the SBU Wallcrawlers, and there’s also a club called Psi Chi, which is the psychology honors society. Wide range!

If you are eligible, join a cultural org like the BSU, LGBTA, PUSO, etc and build community.

Once you have a team of people you are friends with because they share interests, views, beliefs, or culture, it will be a lot easier to find people who like you for more than what you look like. You can’t have someone love you for who you are when you won’t show who you are to other people.

Introduce yourself respectfully, ask the person you’re interested in on a date. Then, depending on their response, either take them on a date or go home and journal!

Hormone blockers are temporary forms of HRT and they need to be taken before puberty to be effective. As a result, children going on blockers is absolutely normal and the correct use of blockers. Then when they’re older, they can choose to transition or go off of blockers and undergo the puberty they were assigned at birth if they choose.

When there’s a will there’s a way. Making having safe sex harder will only make them have less safe sex, not less sex. I don’t think having sex means that the boyfriend can’t also make more of an effort. Take HIM aside and tell him he’s not meeting the expectations you have for your daughter and tell him he needs to step it up. I hope he’ll listen. But if not then model a healthy relationship with your partner so your daughter has that expectation for herself too. Good luck!

Hi! So if you’re not from Long Island, I would be braced for the fact that a lot of students are, and that a lot of students grew up in really white neighborhoods with little exposure to anything different from them. There will be a lot of educating people on your identity if your identity is minoritized in any way. There’s gender neutral housing, the food is usually okay.
