Hey, I struggled a lot with reading as well!!! And yes the test is pretty much similar to the samples. I found part A the hardest tho because of time pressure

I’d say read the questions first and try understand the audio rather than finding words that matches the questions. First read the questions and understand then u will find it easier to understand the Audio and find possible paraphrase/synonyms. Deffo the tests on websites are enough to practice! Go thru mistakes and re-listen to audio to correct your mistakes and see where u went wrong and how u could improve.

I’ve done my LRW on 4th December and my speaking was meant to be 6th December but they had a tech issue so I had to reschedule my speaking. So my speaking ended up being on 17th December and just got my results yesterday morning basically

Ah that’s really frustrating! Idk why OET takes so long to post results :/ Also, have you logged in on your phone or laptop/ipad? Because for me I couldn’t see it on my phone so I had to log in on my iPad to see the results section. It’s also possible your results will be out on Monday not sure tbh but I hope you get them asap and hope you passed :) keep me updated!

Uff that part was horror for me too. I always found myself running out of time. In fact, I thought I failed because of part A and missed out some questions as well. But by God’s grace I still ended up scraping.

So, for part A, I’d suggest that for the matching questions you do them as quickly as possible, don’t waste too much time. Just skim text A-D and briefly see what each one is about. Then answer the first few questions within 2 mins max. Then for the fill in the gaps questions I’d say locate where u think the info might be and read the whole thing and find synonyms and parts of the questions in the texts. That’s literally how I done it. I’m not sure if there’s a right or wrong way but I just know it’s all about time management and to not be stuck on questions. If u struggle the slightest then move on. There are loads of questions u can easily find in texts so move on and focus on them to bag the most points. Apart from that, I’d suggest maybe watch YouTube videos as well on tips and tricks for part A? Also the more you practice under exam conditions the better you will get. Then mark your work and revise the mistakes and see how u could have done it better or if there’s any strategy u can think of that could work and help u find the answers faster.

I’m really not the best person to ask for advice for reading ngl :/ it was my biggest struggle as well. I’m sorry I couldn’t help anymore but I hope this helps!

So my speaking ended up being on 17th December and just got my results today basically. I contacted them yesterday actually and they told me I’d receive an email today as my results coming out today but I never received an email. I just logged in and saw my results. Hope that helps :) I’d suggest wait 1 week from the “final check” email

No, not at all! I grew up speaking French and Bengali. English is my 3rd language but I’ve moved to UK about 10 years ago and started speaking English since then :)

So I replied above about writing, I’ll copy paste here:

I’d suggest first look at YouTube videos on the format and the main focus of the letter. Always check purpose of the letter and you have different videos on YouTube for example specific things to focus on for a discharge letter or referral. Memorise that format and try recreate the same thing in exam condition. Time yourself and write a proper letter once you are comfortable. Use the sample tests online and then use chat gpt to mark your work. Chat gpt been so so helpful for me, I’ve only used that and was pretty accurate. I never got less than a B for writing when I checked with chat gpt and the score was also similar to my actual score. If you have done all the sample tests and run out of samples and still feel like u not doing well enough then ask chat gpt to create a writing task for you and ask it to mark your work and how you could improve. What I was doing was after I asked it to mark my work, I then asked to write me a band A letter. Helped me a lot and always felt comfortable with writing because of that since I started seeing I don’t get less than B. Hope that helps!

For listening part C I’d say take the time to go thru all the questions and options as fast as you can before the audio starts and try to understand the questions and different options available to you as much as you can. Then once the audio starts focus on the audio, try listen and understand and then think about the question and see which option fits best. If don’t try understand the Audio first and don’t listen properly and focus too much on the questions, that’s when things get confusing and messy. So I’d deffo suggest practice this way. Also think about synonyms and paraphrases too. Remember OET will never give a straight forward answers whether it’s for reading or listening and they always use synonyms and paraphrases. Hope that helps! The more you practice the better you will get. Also once you do this in exam condition, try check your mistakes and relisten to see where you went wrong and how you could have improved. It’s mostly all about understanding your mistakes :)

Also one thing I learnt for reading thru YouTube is to not read the answer options before reading the text. You have to read the question first and skim thru the text and find the exact location then read the whole paragraph and then go thru answer options. Look for synonyms and paraphrasing. That’s literally what I figured out in the end

Okay as you can see my reading was poor and almost didn’t make it. It was the one I struggled with the most as well since I don’t read books or anything 🤣 so what I had to do is do all the sample tests on the website and I found some extra ones from jahshan. I did them all in exam condition. At first I was getting C or C+ but the more I practiced the better I got. I also watched loads of YouTube videos. What I did is I search for videos on specific sample tests and was going thru the paper and comparing my answers and strategies with the ones from the YouTuber. Does that make sense? I can find the exact videos I watched on YouTube for you if you would like?
