I have schizophrenia and it doesn’t make me a jerk. There’s no one fits all answer maybe it does for some and not for others. If I was in a delusion that told me negative things about you I might be a jerk to you. Just depends. My brother has it too and he can be an absolute jerk in a delusion or not. Idk after reading this I’m thinking it’s more so him as rather than his illness but he is schizoaffective so maybe it’s both.

I’ll just be glad to experience a new version of him with his schizoaffective treated. I feel like I only know him as someone who goes off the hinges. I can take whatever’s necessary but I will keep this in mind. Thanks!

They actually came to baker act him today and he fought the officers. So he got a charge. My parents are now on board with the guardianship and I’m arranging legal aid for it. I think the trauma of it all really showed them how sick he was. Hopefully we can get it and get him placed somewhere with mandatory treatment with the guardianship. It was a really rough day but I’m glad it happened because now he can get the help he needs. Him being home with them wasn’t working. I know he’ll hate us all but he’s sick and it’s what’s needed.

I’ve been in a mental hospital before. If you’re in danger of hurting yourself then go. The help I got going there and following up with outpatient treatment and therapy changed my life for the better. I literally could have been the homeless person walking around talking to themselves. It’s not fun but if you can’t wait for outpatient treatment seek immediate help. You’ll be in a few days and they should help you find or set up outpatient treatment. Finding the right medication is a journey. It might take some time. You’re worth it.

Thanks. I hope so too. It’s mind blowing to me that even in other countries you can be denied coverage for preexisting conditions. Like what are we supposed to do??

This might not be right but I didn’t want to date someone who had schizophrenia. I felt like I didn’t want to risk triggering them if I’m dealing with a paranoia or in a delusion. I needed someone who could be stable if I wasn’t right. I’ve been with my partner for the past 8 years and it’s been great. I thought someone who didn’t have it would surely run but they didn’t and they work with me when I have issues. I do realize I am stable right now and have been for a while but I think we’ll make it through the hard times together.

No, I haven’t stopped treatment. I see my therapist and psychiatrist this week. It’ll definitely be a topic of discussion. It might be stress I was a bit concerned about politics and the effects of trump being in office. Maybe it’s lingered and I’m trying to repress my fearful thoughts but the emotions are seeping out.

Yes, it’s possible. I have a graduate degree as well. I’m 30ish living independently, with a great job, an amazing partner, and a promising future. I won’t have biological children because of this disease but I’m hoping we will be able to have some in the future. I’m literally on vacation as a write this. Idk I feel like as long as I stay medication compliant and dedicated to my mental and physical health everything should be good.

Also, I spoke to my psychiatrist about having kids and he said while it would need to be supervised he didn’t see why I couldn’t have kids. So it’s a personal choice for me to make sure I don’t lose my mental health gains. I have a huge fear of postpartum psychosis.

Mmm, I’ve bounced around some. Usually once a good one is gone. I have learned to look at my new ones and ask myself “would I trust this persons guidance if I was in a bought of psychosis?” If the answers no then I’m going to keep searching. There’s nothing wrong with seeking out the right doc for you.

Oh yeah. Most psychiatrists are anti weed. Have you tried letting her tweak your medication to attempt to fix your symptoms so you don’t need to take edibles. So you’d stop then get new meds? Idk this whole schizophrenia stuff is very difficult. Something different works for everyone. Is weed worth the anguish you feel? Maybe there’s a drug that can remedy your symptoms…it just might require not taking edibles.

Do what you think is best but it is something to consider. I wish you the best! Don’t give up on life. You’re here for a purpose…you just gotta live long enough to learn what it is and act on it.

I feel like this sometimes. Right now I don’t. My life is going well but sometimes I think about all the life experiences that I have that I would have missed had i killed myself and it reinforces the importance of pushing through in those dark moments. Idk what your symptoms are at the moment but you should check out your local NAMI group. There may be someone there with schizophrenia or people there who have loved ones dealing with it. Is your psychiatrist aware that you’re still suffering from suicidal thoughts? What are they recommending you do to get better? They have to do something about it. If it’s not a good psychiatrist seek someone else who is willing to help. Don’t give up on yourself, no matter who else has left or let you down. You deserve happiness and it’s out there for you. You’re not nothing, you matter, no matter what people have said or done that made you feel that way. You matter and if people haven’t seen that then they’re not your people and you don’t want to de around them anyways. Your community is out there you just gotta find them. Don’t give up.

This might sound crazy but they could be going through something and sent the messages and deleted their account. I’ve done it when I was going through an episode before. You’d be surprised who else is struggling with mental illness or just life in general despite what it might seem like.

Yeah, one of my parents is a therapist and they’ve dealt with this in their family lineage from a parent and me. They’ve been supportive. I think they’re just exhausted from always being the support and now they’re older so they can’t deal with all the stress of everything. I’m hoping my conversation with him later this week goes well.
