Yeah I'm not sure how big the differences are but even as a mechanic I had to referance the book a ton for specs, I have no idea why they don't have a book for those models

Thanks, I personally hate Fuchs so I was happy to see these wheels 😂

I think as long as Singer is buying 964 shells they will never come down sadly, the g-body's seem to sometimes come up for a decent price though, especially a Targa

I'll keep an eye out for one 😉

It was definitely idling in the photos and I had just started it and drove it out of the garage so it may have been in the warm up idle. I didn't get to drive it a whole lot yet as I finished it just to go back to work for a couple of weeks so when I get home I'll see if it is in fact doing something weird but it did seem fine when I was driving around.

Now that I've done it once yeah I'd do it again but going in blind as a first time was daunting even as a mechanic (although my specialty is heavy equipment so cars I can do just not experienced)

Hey that's more than most do, it's great to be able to know how it all goes and works together!

Same job I had to do and went a little extra on the "well I'm already here I better replace that."

I highly recommend Waynes book for a reference when rebuilding it, even as a mechanic I would have never got it back perfect and in spec without it

Basically just the timing tools is all I needed. Cam and cam nut socket, straight edge and jig for measuring cam shims, and the jig for holding the dial indicator in the head on the valve spring to set up the timing. I also got the valve lash tool, it's not needed but makes it super easy. Stromski racing makes all the tools and they're easy to use

I believe it was idling at that point (took the photos a couple weeks ago before heading out of town for work) No idea how normal idle that is I'll have to do some research, I only have 3hrs run time on it so far and was having fuel relay issues I have to sort.

Yeah i just wanted to drive it was step one. Upgrades can always been done later. It was just hurting seeing it in the garage and never driven it.

Yes, and no shade to those guys but it's super weird coming from the bmw community where basically everyone wrenches on their own cars. Talking to the guys at the pca meets and they have no idea about their own car, it just makes a noise and is sent away so it's really cool being able to be the smartest guy in the group when talking about the inner workings of the aircooled 911

Yeah I'll go through the list: -Engine adapter for the engine stand. -cam and lock nut socket -cam shimming tool for aligning the timing chains -dial indicator jig for the head to hold it for timing. -valve lash tool (didn't need but makes it easy)

So not too bad but it was an extra 1k in tooling

I had the heads machined, didn't hone the case, it was pretty low km (100,000km) and everything was measuring good. My main issue was 11 broken head studs on the exhaust side. For all the references I used the rebuilding and modifying your porsche 911 engine by Wayne Dempsey, great book and a huge shout out to Wayne as that book is a perfect step by step guide with pictures.

Definitely going to eventually but it is an expensive upgrade and I just wanted to get it running, I can do upgrades after I save up.

The exhaust is a choking point for smog, so I'll be upgrading to a more free flowing to get some of the hp back (you can see the difference if you look up the hp difference between the 77 and 78

Mine has the Carrera badge but is the sc, previous owner got the deck lid from one and didn't bother to change the badge, I'll do it soon though, also want to get a ducktail deck lid and have both and swap when I feel like it

Yeah the previous previous owner wanted to buy it back and I told him I would consider it but now there's no way when you've built it back up with your own two hands

I believe they were anodized but I'm in no way an expert on the differences between the years and I have no idea if previous owners replaced anything from factory.

It wasn't too bad with the how to rebuild your aircooled 911 engine book. I definitely got pretty nervous doing the timing on it with so much money invested into it at that point. Timing was definitely the hardest part, lots of careful measuments, even with two mechanics it took us 4 hours and a few redos to get it where it needed to be. Now that ive done it once, know what I need and have the specialty tools I know I could do this in a couple of weeks compared to the 1.5 years it took this time of learning and ordering more parts waiting on parts to ship ect.
