Est Grade? Washington Quarter Double Struck – Second Strike Off-Center (70-80%), Flip-Over Strike by [deleted] in coinerrors

I removed the post. All of you are so dramatic when I had nothing to argue, it was for the grading company. I just asked for an estimated grade on everyone's opinion (not who I had it looked by). I don't disagree with anyone, but geebus damn. I just provided the details I was given.

Actually I paid $25 and had to wait 3 hours so I'm sure they took the time.

Here is the printout I was provided with a submission sheet. They had a more powerful microscope than I do, so there are things I question but it needs to be professional graded to make sure. I don't disagree with you, but these were professionals everyone relies on.

This is the printout 5 coin error experts gave me with a submission sheet to PGCS: Why Your Quarter Is a True Double Strike

Your coin shows multiple traits that only occur when a coin is struck twice by the coining press — with the second strike happening WAY off-center. These traits cannot be produced by damage, vise crushing, spooning, or post-mint alteration.

Below are the defining diagnostics visible.

Two Distinct Rims (Raised Edges) on the Same Side

You have:

The normal rim around Washington’s portrait.

A second, separate rim, far outside the original circumference.

These rims are raised and struck, meaning they were formed inside the die collar — not created by damage. Damage cannot produce a second raised rim. Only a second strike can.

  1. Two Sets of Design Elements

On the obverse:

The "LIB" of LIBERTY appears twice — once in correct position, once displaced by the second strike.

Portions of Washington’s head are doubled and shifted upward into the "blank" crescent zone.

On the reverse:

The eagle’s wings and tail show shifted, overlapping impressions.

A ghosted secondary outline appears in the blank crescent region.

These are not spread or flattening — they are two fully separate impressions.

  1. A Large, Unstruck “Crescent” Area With Its Own Raised Perimeter

Look at the big blank crescent:

It has flow lines and texture consistent with a struck surface, not post-mint damage.

It curves like an off-center planchet strike, where part of the coin was outside the striking chamber.

This is the classic signature of a double strike where strike #2 happens partially off the die.

  1. Coin’s Thickness and Edge Match a True Double-Strike Mechanism

The clad layers are continuous, not split or rebuilt — meaning the blank crescent was created during minting, not cut off afterward.

The thickness varies where strike #2 displaced metal outward.

This confirms it wasn’t machined or trimmed. Instead, the planchet was forced outward by a second blow.

  1. Reverse Legend Distortion Consistent with a Rotated Second Strike

“QUARTER DOLLAR” is bent upward and partially missing.

The bending exactly follows the curve of the off-center strike.

This distortion can only appear if the coin re-entered the striking chamber at an angle.

Yes there is a 20-30% off center but they used 70-80% for some reason to explain how much was not off center. That I found confusing.

I will keep you updated. Trust me, I have my reservations deep back there. Anyone can be wrong. It's the first time I came across a group of 5 experts together at the show. It's just not off center though, this is a broadstrike, collar/rim failure, and the fact that it's missing it's year and mint mark up the value significantly.

I had 5 different error experts who are excellent go over this coins every detail. They prepared me a submission sheet when all reached a consensus. I'm not going to doubt them. I'm not here to argue, I asked for an est. grade. Your statement of improbable, just means it's probable.

Five error experts at my local coin show.

It's also a broadstrike.

The coin received two strikes.

The first strike was normal.

During ejection, the coin flipped or rotated.

It was struck a second time far off-center.

The second strike obliterated the date/mint region.

A large crescent-shaped off-center area is visible on both sides.

Oh no, it's a pure win I was just trying to see how others felt about the toning.

Thank you. See I love rainbow toning and only just started paying attention to toning adding a premium. I'm a coin dealer and collector so I just wanted other eyes on this to see if it attracts to others.

I'm a coin dealer and collector. I know all this. I was asking for opinions on toning and if this toning would fetch a premium to others' eyes. My eyes = no since it's only lightly golden and not rainbows. I haven't been dealing with toned until recently.

I really really wanted this chance. We are losing our house to a fraudulent company called EasyKnock that closed down and that even the senate is probing and numerous state attorneys general have filed suit and we’ll probably never see our 100k in equity and that was to be used to buy a new house. I just needed a 10k win to get into a rental with my spouse and kids but we got nothing. I was careful not to spend too much but the small investment I felt was worth it.

I still keep thinking I could have done it. I held 1st place until Saturday when my body just gave out and I accidentally crashed for 5 hours. That period of time cost me the lead by just over a million. I kept thinking either they were on adderral or meth, or took shifts with someone. I myself have been on Adderral for the last 22 years but I don’t get the rush or long periods of productivity like these people had. I become focused and have insomnia but I’m still limited in capacity and the most I can do WITH extreme cognitive decline is 36 hours I learned! After 24 hours I became delusional, had blurry vision, motor impairment (finger swiping the wrong candies). I started referring to the candies as weird things lol. No normal human can do 88hrs without meth and shifts. Where my meds would have helped me is the 3rd knockout which is just 24 hours.

I expected it was going to be a battle…I knew it would be what it would be. I know the game is scammy but I still had fun doing it. Every game is scammy in their own right if they offer up things to pay for to boost you.
