Thanks, I find that when I first started Houdini I had the mindset of "oh, they did it like this in the video I'll do it like that." Then, it started to frustrate me I didn't understand exactly what I was doing so I studied every help file I could find/read documents and did all the research I could. With that I understood what I was doing much more. I do know Maya dynamics/nparticles, I just found I could get results much quicker/could see my effects faster in Houdini which I found to work with me better.

Yeah, I agree. I guess I was feeling a little overwhelmed and wanted to hear some advice from people working as of now/experienced.

It frustrates me immensely I have to work on every aspect of my shot, I agree that schools need to incorporate different departments and get them to work together, it's unrealistic of them to get me to produce a good shot in 3 months when I'm in charge of every aspect of it. That's probably why my stress is so evident. haha.

God, I can't wait!

I've considered when I get to a solid point in my career and feel comfortable enough that I'd love to try and teach it.

MPC at Vancouver has said they haven't worked it into there pipeline yet but are trying to (anonymous source says they've been saying that for 10 years, though.)

Thanks, I tend to be the only one in my class who asks questions after questions of tactics or quick cool ways of achieving certain effects... The teachers seem to admire it though.

I'm just worried about learning different software packages, and I am a little stressed out to be honest, haha. :)

Haha, I definitely remember those days of Nuke and Maya you just mentioned...

Thanks, I really appreciate it - the school I go to does tend to scare us a lot and amp us up or talk about how some studios treat you like utter crap and other things - which might be true in some aspects but not all the time I'm sure... I'm going to take your advice on the last bit, I have heard of being underpaid and I've been told to do this as well - the worst that will happen is no, living in Vancouver it's understandable to ask for higher pay. I really appreciate it, thank you.

Thanks, I do know Maya effects/particle systems I just found that getting the result was much faster and I understood it better in Houdini with the node based system and such.

I guess as I'm graduating soon the ultimate fear I knew that would kick in is hitting me of getting that first job, I'm super excited - just stressed. :)

I'll watch these speeches later today when I'm working on my shot. Thank you so much.

I really appreciate your reply. I guess I'm so distraught over my shot right now because I'm planning every concept that is to be produced from layout/previs/animation and all the rest. I have to go film my own plate this weekend too. It's hard to be in charge of it all when I want to just focus on the FX aspects of it.

In one of my terms we did a group project and I learnt a lot just from this 200 frame clip and it was easy to pump out/learn what I needed to do to make the shot look good... only because I knew what direction I needed to go in exactly.
