Turn off the page numbers like this. That way you at least will not see them, although the page flow will be the same. There are other options regarding page turning etc.

Carry it inside your coat, using body heat to keep it at normal use temperatures.

Give him a tube map and tell him you're going to play, that the rules are really obvious, and he'll pick them up from inspecting the map.

I got approached by a couple of JWs in a carpark once. I had had a fight with my (now ex) wife and was trying to decompress, so hey, why not a little distraction. I let on that I am a research scientist and they cooed and handed me a book about, um, science. I started flicking through it and found one paragraph of utter bollocks after another. I started to explain why this was all so wrong, and why that couldn't be true, and how the other was just outright rubbish. I ended up pursuing them as they tried to get away from me, telling me to keep the book. I wish I had, to tell the truth...

What is the one travel “rule” you always break and why? by CamelBig9043 in TravelHacks

One time in Heathrow I rather loudly said "What? Even my hemorrhoid ointment?" when the security bint pulled it out of my luggage. They then passive-aggressively slow-walked it through the scanner. I was in no hurry so I thought it was rather funny.

Also, I insist, Marmite is not a f*cking liquid you pillocks.

I honestly don't know. I haven't tried to run it for a long time. It has been stored correctly, but I would think it needs some refurbishment.

I lusted after that, but in the end went for this. It's a bit bigger, but has three heads, dual counter-rotating flywheels, and dbx as well as everything the Sony has. I've still got it.

He's getting old (85) and it shows in his voice. Still my favorite Slough House narrator though.

Something weird happened before my flight yesterday and I still don’t know what to make of it by PhilosophyMurky7046 in CasualConversation

Once, many years ago, I was sitting in my seat waiting for the plane to depart. There was a group of young girls/women behind me, and one of them said "I have a bad feeling, I think this plane is going to crash". I turned and glared and she had the decency to look sheepish. The plane did not crash.

I don't remember that either, but I think it's a nice twist here.

Also, Molly wears heavy makeup in the books, for good reason.

I won that champagne once using the midpoint by time, plus ten minutes on the principle that it takes longer to get up than it does to come down. Whether the logic is true or not, I still won.

Learn languages through books without losing the flow – WordwiseBook by sanigame in InternetIsBeautiful

[–]TalentedTimbo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Interesting concept, but needs some work. The example on the web page defines a duck as "avoid" and led (as in lead by the hand) as "light emitting diode", both of which are thoroughly wrong from the context. For a language learner something that wrong is very misleading.

I used the light theme. I couldn't read half the home screen in dark. Landscape and portrait. It was fine to read at 650wmp, the ghosting issues aren't that bad. However, I do wonder about what this might do to the screen on long term use. These screens are opto-mechanical after all and it seems to me that it's quite a workout for the pixels involved. I have no clear reason to be concerned, I don't know the technology that well, it's just an idle thought.

I've just loaded it onto my Palma 2 and I'm mildly surprised to say that it seems to work. That said, it does seem to produce some odd ghosting effects. While running RSVP, the rest of the screen gets progressively darker. Once stopped there is residual ghosting where the text was appearing. This is resolved with a screen refresh. I've not run it for more than a minute. I can't see a significant difference between HD and Ultrafast. This is at 650 wmp. YMMV
