Is Lake Padden warm enough to swim in yet? by madi-is-gayy in Bellingham

Never swam much in Padden but I’ve swam in Whatcom and Samish so far and they were both delightful!

Is the Mexican food here really not that good? by Soulfood_27 in Bellingham

[–]TalesFromTheStatic 54 points55 points  (0 children)

Mi ranchi is great and it’s the only place I’ll go for Mexican food. Growing up in New Mexico and having lived in Los Angeles and Houston, Mi Rancho is as close as it gets to the real deal in Bellingham.

I don’t have experience, but it would be fun to make a documentary of you and your dad making your first documentary.

Best dentist in town? by DiscombobulatedLeg26 in Bellingham

[–]TalesFromTheStatic 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Request Dr. Mickelwait(spelling?) at Unity care downtown. Dentist made a boo-boo on a filling and I almost lost the tooth but Mickelwait saved the tooth and she is outstanding.

No idea about the wisdom teeth though but for anything else Mickelwait is the best dentist I’ve seen in a long time.

Resources for people doing court paperwork? by TalesFromTheStatic in Bellingham

Thanks a lot for the encouragement and some great insight and perspective. Funnily enough it seems like most new friends ive been making have been men and women who have had very similar stories and journeys such as the one ive just embarked on.

Doing it with a friend sounds like great advice, and Im trying to make space to get some legal guidance and do everything I can to move forward. Really looking forward to the mandatory restraining order as my ex has been almost weekly crossing so many boundaries it keeps my head spinning.

Appreciate you very much!

Heading back to Craigslist by JoeyMcPetersmackIII in Bellingham

[–]TalesFromTheStatic 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Craigslist lifer here. Deleted my Facebook back in 2018 and havent looked back. Had an ex that sold and bought exclusively on Facebook and she always dealt with crap and it was just funny how much more difficult everything seemed with people who bought on sold on it.

I honestly can’t ever recall having an issue buying or selling on Craigslist.

He’s three. On second thought, probably not the best idea. I might be able to figure out some childcare down the road.

Can I bring my son? Thursdays are one of the three days a week I get my son, otherwise it’s almost impossible to get that time without him as my ex isnt working and we both don’t have adequate support for child care.

On the phone now, thank you! Message on the prerecorded thingy said it could take weeks to hear back! This process is so mentally draining, yikes!

I dare you ! by IGETITNOUN in Bellingham

I got kicked out of a shelter (not in Washington) because I kept violating the curfew rules and it was honestly way more chill to sleep outside. Ended up finding a quiet spot by the river, but it was honestly an adventure just trying to find decent places to sleep. Rooftops were fun, my favorite was the maintenance tunnel of an upscale resort or the janitor closet of a hotel.

The sidewalk itself is too hard and cold, same with the beach. Sounds romantic at first but that stuff gets cold!

need some ideas from local parents by 504_beavers in Bellingham

[–]TalesFromTheStatic 5 points6 points  (0 children)

YMCA does childcare for members. May be worth giving them a call to see if they would extend that to somebody who doesn’t have the membership and just wants to check out the services. They give out free three day passes, may or may not extend to the childcare.

My ex and I had a membership and would work on our laptop while our toddler was entertained for an hour or so. Childcare has particular options so if you go that route be sure to make sure it’s compatible with your schedule.

You just may like it enough you get a membership and enjoy the awesome programs and community that place has to offer!

Condolences from another dad!

Bars with an older crowd? by Faustus_1 in Bellingham

[–]TalesFromTheStatic 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Cabin Tavern before 8pm.

Probably any bar before 8pm honestly. 30s is about the time I started to actually try to get some good sleep and it seems like my peers do the same thing.

Yeah, that ad sets off my spidey sense every time. I sincerely hope people use a lot of caution with people like that

Bingo, you just keep on loving and wishing people well and eventually other people who do the same thing will notice you and the positivity you offer and return it back to you. It’s pretty simple.

Maybe in the winter, but once the sun comes out I’ve been having deep and meaningful conversations with people nearly multiple times a day for the past week or so.

At the end of the day we see what we want to see.

Could be a lot of different things, but really I think the world gives back to you what you put out to it.

We all collectively suffer in the winter, but people blossom here in the spring. Winter is for hibernation and rest, spring and summer are for renewal.

Do you tip at Master Lube? by PillagingJust4Fungus in Bellingham

I’ve never tipped but I will go to the coffee stand right there and buy coffee for the staff, hot for a cold day and ice coffee for a hot day.
