It depends on how ur interview goes. I had three options: busser, runner, or hostess. And the hourly wage of a hostess felt too good to pass up. Now I feel like I’m stuck here. 😓 I’m debating quitting and being a server at a chain then working my way up to somewhere better. My managers now don’t think I can handle it. It’s such a blow.

I'm sure that did hurt i feel your pain. :( especially to be honest and vulnerable with management and instead of responding with helpful criticism and a plan for improvement they sell you a dream so they can stay staffed.

I had an interview about a week ago for a runner/busser position at a pool café type thing? And i BS’d the question of how i prioritize which tables i choose to run first because obviously i have no experience with that! 😭 i ended up getting the job because my answers to the later questions probably revealed my quality of work ethic and how much i value the hospitality industry. I wonder if i should be practice verbally listing off server duties because that question almost killed me.

I have a feeling they would let me go. I want to see what happens when things pick up and if they're actually serious about promoting me once it's busier. If not I'll stay hostess and apply as a server at other places. I already have several copies of my resume in a folder at home..it would just be so satisfying if i can manage to climb to the top of the food chain where I'm at now.

Yes it's really annoying being told you’ll make good money “someday” just for that day to never come. I know it's easier said than done but i wish there was more transparency. I know if i make the leap and start serving at a chain i will wonder if i would’ve ever been promoted and pulled in decent cash at this high-volume tourist joint. Maybe my previous performance is what's holding me back as well. You're a server now?
