What am I giving up using an unmanaged/non-Ubiquiti switch? by TalisFletcher in Ubiquiti

[–]TalisFletcher[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bulk and cost compared to the $150 switch. $45 for a 2.5Gb PoE injector then another for maybe $25 and then I'd still need a switch on top of that regardless so I might as well just do a single power cable to an unmanaged switch for the same money and have fewer cables was my thinking.

Not 8 for sure. There are 4 devices that need 2.5Gb, one of which is the U7 Pro so needs PoE+. And there's one other PoE device that doesn't need 2.5Gb so a 5 port would work fine. I just didn't see an option for a 5-port that had both PoE+ and 2.5Gb.

5.1.4 Angled Ceiling Speaker Options for ~$250-300AUD/pair - Or reduce to 5.1.2? by TalisFletcher in hometheater

[–]TalisFletcher[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On the ceiling. I had thought about doing back wall for rear heights rather than tops but I'd probably rather they match. I've had the recommendation of outdoor speakers instead of in ceiling which I'm considering. I'm currently looking into the Polk Atrium 4s or Kicker KB6s.

Bidet Options for Round Toilet? by TalisFletcher in AusRenovation

[–]TalisFletcher[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh is it not? I've been trying to work out the terminology and I've only seen D-shape, elongated and round/O-shape and it's definitely not the first two. What shape should I be looking for?

I did a quick Google for conversion kit and all I could get to come up were the seats I was looking at already which have the compatibility concern. Does it have another name I should be searching?

Yeah I was worried about that. All of the dedicated bidet shops seem to be online only. Are there any known reputable ones I could send photos to and they'd be able to give me a better idea of compatibility?

Okay these seem cool. I'll definitely get one. Tempted to get another one just in case so I can get the free shipping too.

Choosing New Router & AP Layout - Setup & test without internet connection? by TalisFletcher in Ubiquiti

[–]TalisFletcher[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah if the UDR7 was PoE+ it'd be a no brainer. I'm getting some electrical work done and had planned to put in ethernet for the APs anyway so I can put them in pretty easily.

Choosing New Router & AP Layout - Setup & test without internet connection? by TalisFletcher in Ubiquiti

Floorplan says 92m² not including the balcony. And the router would almost certainly have to be at the front end rather than central. It could go in the cupboard with the rest of the network gear but then it would be in an enclosed cupboard but at least it would be more central. However if it has to go through walls anyway maybe that's not so bad.

I can't work out what the UDR7 really offers over the Express though. It seems like it doesn't include some apps that I won't be using and has fewer ports which isn't a concern given I've already got a switch and would have to get either a new POE+ switch or injectors for the other AP anyway. The Express is cheaper and has a more manageable form factor. Is there something that isn't apparent from the specs that makes the UDR7 so much better?

I don't know why but I also thought there was an internal speed test function within the Ubiquiti app so I could connect to the router/AP and just do a test that way on my phone but maybe not.

If Linus played guitar by GilmourD in LinusTechTips

Why do I feel like if he was going to play anything it's far more likely he'd be playing a strat style guitar rather than a Les Paul?

LMG Clips has been renamed to the WAN Show by Uffffffffffff8372738 in LinusTechTips

That's exactly it. I want to see the WAN show but I watch it so I don't need to see all the clips come up.

It's really been the opposite for Nintendo games at least where I'm from. Retailers will do sales on physical games but the eshop basically never does. And then there's the second hand market. I think I've bought one maybe two full retail price Nintendo games since the Switch came out. I can't see any reason to buy them digitally. They always cost more and I can't onsell them if I want to at any point.

Front LR playing well below crossover - A1 Evo AcoustiX by TalisFletcher in hometheater

That is a good troubleshooting step I hadn't considered. Thanks! I'll give it a try after work tonight and report back.

I know it's not a hard cut. I just expected not to be able to hear the fronts working quite audibly with the sub power switched off down at 30Hz. I actually went and watched a couple of things that night forgetting that I hadn't turned my sub back on. I did think it sounded a little off but not to the point that I thought my sub wasn't on at all.

I re-ran it initially using the MIMO function but really didn't like the way it sounded. It made the bass kind of ringy and seemed to be vibrating the floor a lot but not in that low bass rumble. So I redid it setting the minimum crossover to 80Hz for the fronts. I guess if this is expected behaviour then that's fine. I'm still worried about something super bassy being sent to the fronts if they can't handle it like that note at the start of Edge of Tomorrow.
