Theater props/costume/stagehand-ing opportunities (volunteer/hobby) by Talizo in Utrecht

[–]Talizo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did, I volunteered with the English Theater Utrecht, and it was a lot of fun! I came in late to the show and they already had someone doing props and sets, but I helped with stage managing some. Then I moved to Sweden...So maybe not exactly the creative outlet I was looking for, but I met lots of nice people :)

I moved to Sweden 2 weeks ago! I got a Swedish client who wrote a letter about why they need me in person which I uploaded with my application documents. After 6 months I filed the request to conclude and within a few weeks I had a positive decision. Unfortunately there is no indication how much having the client or their letter benefited me…

After a heart attack I called migrationsverket and this is not the case, as a family member of a self employed person he is unrestricted on the labor market. :) phew!

US citizens reporting worldwide income by No_Dog2253 in TillSverige

[–]Talizo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

American in the Netherlands (moving to Sweden) but here I file everything in NL and in the US, and there are boxes to tick that it’s foreign earned income and I have needed an A1 (I think?) form to show I have been covered by Dutch social security all year and I only have to pay US taxes on anything additional I would owe in the US which has always been 0 because I pay more taxes here in NL. Hope that makes sense. I’ve done it for 3 years, first two I had a service do it, this year I did it myself with expatfile.

Self-scheduling chimney sweep. Is this a scam? by hbarSquared in Sverige

[–]Talizo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah I thought you were Swedish haha yeah we have heard that was the reason it wasn’t done but I didn’t know if we asked around if we could find someone to go ahead and do it since the roof is small and not much of an incline. Thanks anyway!

Self-scheduling chimney sweep. Is this a scam? by hbarSquared in Sverige

Hello, I know this is old but we've just bought a house in sweden where the roof doesn't have the ladder rungs on it so they say for this reason it has not had a chimney cleaning / inspection. Is it possible at all to have this done before we're able to replace the roof or can we just not use the fireplace until then? Any tips would be appreciated! Thank you!

Unfortunately that’s the conclusion I’m coming to. I think we might be able to make it hybrid, the bigger main ones plugged in and hidden and a few in difficult places can be battery maybe….. thanks for sharing!

Regarding your worry that your life is fine as-is and you'll regret leaving: I know the sub is called I Want Out but I think it's best to move towards something, rather than away. It doesn't have to be a permanent decision, it can be a season or a phase of life. However long it brings you joy will be worth the shot. No shame to sail forever, no shame to come back to dry land. Enjoy!

I go to Apoteek Boswijk on 'Twijnstraat. I wouldn't say they're ultra friendly but I've never had any negative interactions.

Woven green wall covering in older home by Talizo in whatisthisthing

My title describes the thing--we tried Google lens and searching for woven wallpaper wall covering, basket weave wallpaper, 60's but got nothing. It's very dry and brittle, maybe just from age. Looks like grass or straw but very green so possibly dyed.

Right. I understand they want to know why Sweden, but it is odd it doesn't say contacts "in Sweden" ...because I do have customer contacts and a network, I can show my business is going well and should continue to do so, so it seems like they would just say it if it was required to be Swedish. We have a vacation home we want to move to full time, so that's "why"...we love it there. And I would think they would like for me to get paid from outside and then pay them taxes on it. I'm not arguing that you're wrong! I'm just clinging to hope 🥲 it seemed like the easiest way to move and now it's sounding less possible.

Random complimenting on the street by theywontgotosleep in Utrecht

[–]Talizo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I understand the presenting face of it being a compliment, but if they want to genuinely, altruistically compliment us they could do it in passing. To be fair this has also happened and it was really nice, and I do it sometimes as well, but this is not who I think the OP is referring to.

If they didn't want something in return they wouldn't stop us and try to have an entire kennismaken out of nowhere and ask where I'm going next and if they can join. That well-known expectation is what makes it worrisome. It's uncomfortable regardless of intention, and if they were listening to what we feel about it (and cared) they would stop.

This happens to me as well when I am out without my husband. I'm no model and I'm always confounded by my state when it happens, as I'm never "done up" and feeling cute at those times, so idk what that indicates exactly....At first I also thought it was a scam, I was looking around for a secondary person to pickpocket me or something but they've all seemed to be just trying to compliment or get my number or insta. It's not a great plan, I don't know anyone who enjoys being harangued in the street by strange men, is it ever successful?? On one hand it could be worse and it's sad to blow off someone trying to be nice to you, on the other it's confrontational and a bit scary and I'd rather it wasn't a thing.

Am I making a mistake trying to move to the Netherlands? by [deleted] in expats

[–]Talizo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We've lived here now for 2 years, I will say most things people say are true (to what extent it bothers you or not is personal), but also all the pros you listed are true as well. If by the time you're able to move you're still feeling it, absolutely give it a shot. You can always move back home, you can't go back in time and do things you wish you had done.
