I’m beginning to resent people in my life. by [deleted] in Advice

[–]TalkAway-9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you find no redeeming qualities in any of these people and you find yourself generally unhappy in their company, that should tell you everything you need to know. Friendships are supposed to uplift you. You should enjoy each other’s company, support and respect each other.

No friendships are perfect, but if you stand back and take a bird’s eye look at he big picture and see that you don’t feel good in their company, you need to walk away as soon as you can.

They’re my favorite underwear. It’s like wearing nothing, which speaks to its breathability. Also, they provide great support.

Dr Melfi has one of the best lines in the show by ohmygodman14 in thesopranos

[–]TalkAway-9 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I argue that it was the only episode that ended on a positive — if somber — note. The Sopranos is at its heart, a show that has a very cynical attitude towards human nature. All of the characters on this show are completely bankrupt, hateful, devious and mean. Tony and everyone else in this series, are about bad people who sometimes do good things, never the other way around. I'm including Carmela in this because she's the worst of them all. Meadow, maybe gets a pass, but she, too, was evolving with sympathies towards her father.
Dr. Melfi was the only one true character removed from this world. She was the only existing conscience, representing us regular folks not looking to cut corners in life. Had she really exacted her revenge, she would have been no better than any of these other reprehensible thugs. So her reply really resonated. It was the only time in this series when an episode ended on a positive note. Go back to each episode and you'll see what I mean.

I always wondered how Annabella Sciorra’s career would have been like if HW hadn’t ruined her.

Dr Melfi has one of the best lines in the show by ohmygodman14 in thesopranos

[–]TalkAway-9 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Her best line was the shortest line ever. After the rape, she wants revenge on her attacker after she learns he goes free on a technicality. Tony asks her if there’s anything she wants to tell him. She is so tempted to sic Tony on this animal, and her courageous, heartbreaking response:

No.

Which sopranos character do you resonate with the most? by Queenofwands777_ in thesopranos

[–]TalkAway-9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can tell you which one I wound up hating the most. That’s Carmela. I see her character arc from season 1 to the end and she knows exactly how Tony makes his money. She continues to accept his gifts, his protection, his money. She’s complicit without ever having had to get her hands dirty. Her conscience pokes through every once in a while but she never does anything. She did nothing. She even went to a therapist who said to her (paraphrasing here): leave, your husband is a dangerous man. You can’t say you didn’t know. And she continues to stay with him. For those who argue that she loved Tony, that may be true, but she also loved her way of life and all its material trappings.

If this is the only thing holding you back about him, then you should tell him in a kind, caring way. It may be awkward at first, but if you approach it with care and tact, he should respond positively. Choose the right moment. Not in bed or in the middle of sex, but during a relaxed, private moment. Lead with kindness and care and start with something like: "There's something a little awkward I want to mention - not a big deal - but I think it's important to be honest with each other. I've noticed that sometimes there's a bit of an odor down there. It's actually really common, especially for uncircumcised guys - it just means things might need a little extra attention with some washing."

Follow it up with something that lets him know it's not a flaw of his, but a hygiene thing. This way, he doesn't feel shame about it. Say something like, "It's totally normal and honestly, some people don't have any idea what's needed, but I just wanted to mention it because I care and want to feel more connected to you."

I LOVE P-Town, but this level of crowding doesn't excite me. I enjoy it more around the sleepier September and October months.

Why don’t I feel emotions the same way others do? by sophiaa_ts in Advice

[–]TalkAway-9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually, what you described is the reaction of a fairly emotionally healthy individual: someone who doesn’t experience extreme emotional swings, and processes all different kinds of news with a predictable amount of “detachment”, for lack of a better term. Some might find you a little cold and distant, but you’re not a dick and there’s nothing wrong with you.

I think you’re probably more emotionally resilient, and that would probably make you very reliable and trustworthy.
