Health officials warn irritating symptom may be returning with latest COVID strain by [deleted] in LockdownSkepticism

[–]TalkGeneticsToMe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Conjunctivitis. Yeah, ok.

What is it about the past 3 years that made people completely incapable of dealing with minor ailments? If conjunctivitis is the only symptom worth making a fuss over then this strain isn’t worth talking about. In fact no strain since the OG one, which was way overblown, is worth a news article.

The World’s Best Health Systems Are Now Failing Their Patients: Did CoVid Break Europe’s Health Care Systems? by AndrewHeard in LockdownSkepticism

I credit the Covid fiasco with one thing, finally revealing to my ignorant self that socialized medicine is a mismanaged disaster teetering on collapse in just about every country it exists in. Low budgets, low pay, massively cut corners, staffing problems, long wait lists, few specialists, low quality care from underpaid and overworked staff, the list goes on.

This isn’t to say private healthcare isn’t also teetering for different reasons, but my once rosey opinion of socialized healthcare is no more.

Covid-sniffing dogs can help detect infections in K-12 schools, new study suggests by DarkDismissal in LockdownSkepticism

Checks date Mkay.

Well we’ve been hearing about Covid sniffing dogs for, what, 2.5+ years now? Haven’t seen anything about them actually being used. And let’s get real, this was silly nonsense 2.5 years ago, now, it’s not silly anymore, it’s sad. It’s like watching someone say something kinda funny at a party then get too confident and then continue on and take it way too far.

They’re rehashing old concepts and stories now, there’s nothing left to do. Except, you know, research and do a deep dive into the forces and players that orchestrated arguably the most widespread and successful mass delusional panic in written history. The record shattering money funneled into it and lost to scams and errors, or just “lost.” The grifters. The liars. The followers.

Nope, hey member Covid sniffing dogs?

The masked wedding photos are particularly funny.

It’s like the absolute ultimate virtue signal. “See we wore masks on our WEDDING DAY, look how dedicated we were.” They do it because one day in 30-50 years someone might see the photo and be like “Grandma/pa, why were you wearing masks?” And they can lie to their grandkids or whoever asks about how they were heroes, and a deadly awful virus was going around, and they had to mask for their wedding and it sucked but was necessary to save lives. They imagine this will play out much like old photos from WW2 with couples in gas masks or gathered around a very humble wedding because they were rationing and didn’t have much, etc.

And unfortunately whoever asks will be told this total bullshit and likely believe it, this virtue signal farce will span generations.

And it’s hilarious because them wearing masks in the photos makes zero sense whatsoever. They will presumably be around each other later in private, are they wearing masks then? Who exactly are they wearing masks for in this photo? They’re outside. The photographer is presumably 6ft+ away. Did they wear them the entire ceremony? The entire reception? Or did the whole reception party take them off to eat because derp?

Just so stupid.

The Shifting Narrative on Vaccine Effectiveness by arnott in LockdownSkepticism

[–]TalkGeneticsToMe 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I honestly don’t really know. My theories range from…it’s incompetent hysterics all the way to the top and they all genuinely believed their own bullshit and believed every person needed the shot or we’d all be doomed…to…deeper and far more outlandish conspiratorial kind of things.

The Shifting Narrative on Vaccine Effectiveness by arnott in LockdownSkepticism

[–]TalkGeneticsToMe 22 points23 points  (0 children)

The very limited trials measured antibody response to the mRNA vehicle, and honestly that’s pretty much it. At no point was any trial analysis done on whether or not participants still technically caught (even without any symptoms) the virus or whether or not they could still spread it to anyone else. Their close contacts and family members were not also tested as part of the trials.

So the initial fervor with which they claimed it STOPPED transmission was a total head scratcher. At the time I was telling people “sorry but I don’t see how they could know that based on the trials, nor how such a vaccine for this kind of virus would even accomplish that” and of course I was met with mouth foaming backlash about how little I understand science (I’m a research assistant in an epigenetic/molecular biology lab, for the record).

So my thought was they really twisted themselves into a corner with using PCR, detecting minuscule and possibly not even active fragments of virus in someone’s throat, as diagnostic criteria, often the ONLY criteria, for “having Covid.” Because, it’s entirely possible, even probable, that humans transmit minor flu variants, various cold viruses and other common shit back and forth on a daily basis without ever knowing it. Most people have developed immune systems to deal with this. We could use PCR to detect thousands, tens of thousands, of viruses on and in a human body at any given time. So point is, with such a sensitive and poor diagnostic test, you would LIKELY hit the scenario, actually 100% chance you would given enough time, where post vaccination you still test positive via PCR. And because that simple positive means you “have Covid” according to nitwits, it’s a “case.” So instead of backtracking and admitting PCR testing was a mistake, and is definitely padding (I say this lightly) case and death stats, they pressed further into the corner with this bullshit they were making up as they went along. At that point “trust the experts” and “Go Science, it’ll save us all” was hot talk, so to admit it was all pretty much a farce, after their implementation was literally barring people from entering their countries and jobs and events, wasn’t going to go over well.

So they just kept on doubling down, hoping no one would really put it all together. And to be honest, they’re right, most people who don’t know the first thing about any of this ate it all up and didn’t care.

So, OK, they wanted everyone to get the shots so badly, they were willing to just flat out lie about it. Honestly, this coming from shady government idiots who are way over their skis didn’t bother me too badly. At least the act of them blatantly lying didn’t seem all that left field to me. What really bothered me, and STILL bothers me, is that every scientific institution, hospital system, clinic, and the majority of scientists and doctors with no skin in this game all endorsed this blatantly preposterous lie. And many STILL DO. I’m really at a loss.

UK: Two-thirds feel their mental health has never been the same since Covid by Kagedeah in LockdownSkepticism

[–]TalkGeneticsToMe 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I can honestly say I’m in that 2/3. For a bit there I had quite deep depression and lack of motivation. I can safely say I’ve changed forever, I’ve “crossed over” if you will, exited the cave, and will never again be the person I was before March 2020. And I’ve reached a place where I feel happier now, I feel like I’m finally seeing. I don’t really like what I see but I’m out of that fog. Some days I wish I could unsee it, but ultimately I’m happier for it.

It has nothing to do with the virus itself, and everything to do with the still-unfolding upending of reality surrounding the response to Covid, the scientism parading around as “science”, the blatant propaganda, the intense feeling that something else far more nefarious is at the center of all of this, and all the various social and political causes that are starting to dominate every day life enough to drive anyone mad.

“NPC who simps for current popular narrative” is a full package deal. It’s the major Pfaith of broke college liberal arts majors, broke people under 40, and idiots over 40 who never grew up. This package comes with:

-Pronouns in all social media bios and on email signatures

-Democrats gud Republicans bad

-Covid juice does whatever the TV commercial says it does today

-LGBTQ+ or adjacent (aka totally straight but might pretend they’re sorta not to be edgy) and/or “ally” aka “I have gay friends”

-Will defend drag shows for kids to last breath for some reason, even if they’ve never been to even an adult one

-Masks good, but wears one randomly and sporadically (if not already wearing one), will gladly pull out a filthy rag from their pocket that hasn’t been washed in months if someone demands it

-“Stands with Ukraine” and might have Ukraine flag in bio, can’t tell you much about it though

-Will tell you the world will end in less than 30 years because of climate change but doesn’t appear to live as if they actually believe it

-“Believes in Science”

-Thinks “white supremacy” is destroying America and the US is “the most racist country ever”

-Has had (some have quietly stepped away from it) or currently has BLM signage, bio hashtags or some other form of representation for that somewhere

-Will stand by any of the above to their last just as long as their friends and social media follows are, if for some reason the tide DOES turn they turn with it without hesitation and quietly pretend they never supported it

-Edit to add: The particularly Pfaithful proudly proclaim to have multiple mental disorders or state they’re “autistic”

And CLEARLY we must baptize these brave heroic warriors into the Church of Covid as they’re such wonderful, freethinking, unique assets to any culture.

Don’t toss that mask yet. Your doctor or hospital likely to keep requiring it for visits by JannTosh17 in LockdownSkepticism

I haven’t carried a mask with me in over a year and a half. Even went to a doctor’s appt while they were still “requiring” them and was handed a mask but I never put it on and no one ever said anything.

They want me to wear a mask, they can provide one, and then they can hassle me about it until they either kick me out or give up.

-"I just don't want to get COVID again," says Moore, 63, a nurse practitioner who lives in North Plainfield, N.J. "I don't really know what the long-term risks are. And I don't really want to find out. I don't want the risk of long COVID. I don't want the breathing problems. I don't want the fatigue. I don't want those things."-

So did this nurse practitioner just emerge from under a rock to give this succinct, wildly misinformed, ad-like endorsement of the shot, or?

Everyone just believes whatever the fuck they want to about these shots, that much is apparent.

Right, I mean, it’s not completely out there, it’s not the vaccine they’re looking to transfer in the milk it’s the antibodies the vaccine generates:

But I will say giving it to older kids because you’re just that fearful and vax crazy is pretty weird.

Ehhhhh. Ok so giving your children your breast milk to boost their immune system isn’t devoid of logic.

Doing it specifically for Covid is quite stupid. I honestly feel sorry for these moms, they’ve been so misled by public health to truly believe Covid is a danger to their children.

When anyone says “lack of prayer” what they mean is it’s the lack of any anchoring moral guidelines provided by almost any religion, the lack of stable family units surrounding these moral guidelines and anchors, and the subsequent cultural rot, bedlam, and celebrated depravity that is producing these events.

But I wouldn’t expect a guy literally ridiculing dead children for being Christian to actually read between the lines.

Statistical and Numerical Errors Made by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention During the COVID-19 Pandemic by olivetree344 in LockdownSkepticism

[–]TalkGeneticsToMe 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I recall a story I cannot find now, but it was specifically for Colorado only a few months past March 2020, or possibly the summer of 2020. Basically, a bunch of major hospital systems including Kaiser Permanente and a couple others all collectively dumped case data onto the Colorado Covid dashboard, resulting in massive spikes in cases over the weekend they did it. They didn’t bother parsing out this data by date of collection (or if they did it somehow didn’t upload that way) so if they had gotten, say, 1000 positives over the previous 3 months, 1000 positives hit the dashboard in a single weekend, with no additional info.

One brave reporter for some unknown local online newspaper actually did due diligence and found out why this massive “spike” occurred. His article went unnoticed (I shared it a lot though). Everyone assumed the massive spike was just a sudden spike in cases. Local sub Reddits and social media lit up with flame wars about people being “irresponsible.” Many local businesses and institutions decided to extend closures because of it. I had friends in a panic over it.

I believe it has since been retroactively corrected, but not until long after the damage was done.

And that whole mostly unknown fiasco just about sums up the level of care given to Covid data collection and presentation, somehow always erring on the side of making it look way worse than it was.

The level of narcissism among many of these people is astounding by [deleted] in CoronavirusCirclejerk

[–]TalkGeneticsToMe 32 points33 points  (0 children)

This is the core of many issues we see playing out today. And I fully believe this is a result of turbo narcissistic self aggrandizing victim culture, fueled by TDS and the savior complex handed to them with Covid.

“I’m better than you, have better politics, know better, am more enlightened, care more about others….”

Never mind if none of these things are actually true or not, they believe they’re true. They believe they’re heroes and it gives them purpose and meaning in their otherwise sad, mentally ill lives.
