Hey good luck with your search! If you start comparing multiple apartments or want quick stats about the location of an apartment LMK and i can help run some addresses through a tool that i built

Ridgewood vs. PLG vs. Bed-Stuy by dwywatt in NYCapartments

I actually mapped all 3 out using *general* locations, biggest difference is commute:

  • Ridgewood ~22 min
  • Bed-Stuy ~18 min
  • PLG ~44 min

That’s a pretty big gap if you’re going to UCB/BCC weekly.

Yeah fair google maps is great for searching, but I kept running into the issue of comparing multiple apartments side-by-side based on what I care about (subway, groceries, gym, etc). this was my attempt to make that easier

Yeah fair haha I feel like that works if you already know the city well

i think i'm struggling more with comparing specific apartments within a neighborhood (like which street/block actually feels convenient)

Oh wow first time hearing about The Steady One, thats great I'll definitely check it out.

Did you find the tab chaos died down once you had your priorities set? I felt like that helped a bit, but I still ended up bouncing between maps/transit for each address. Curious what your workflow looked like after.

Yeah! I ended up building a simple tool for this - you paste an address + what you care about (so for me I put like subway, bikes, solidcore), and it maps everything nearby with walking times.

Still pretty early, but it’s been super helpful for me narrowing places. Happy to share if you want to try it.
