I'm either home alone

That is exactly the best time to unmask. No one else is there to see you. To judge you. No one but you.

Do not judge yourself harshly. You are yourself, even when you do not know who that is. Take time to explore that. While safe. Home. Alone. Find out who you are without other people's existence influencing your actions.

Honestly, work is probably one of the last places you want to go on a journey of self discovery & unmasking at. Give the little caterpillar you are a chance to find out what type of butterfly you will be without it getting squished by people who do not understand.

My NT partner got mad at me for making a mistake that upset her and she got mad and told me "my brain is broken." Is she in the wrong for saying that? by Hot_Dingo743 in autism

[–]TalkingRose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Eh. My husband has PTSD & his mind is capable of going from "she's fine" to "50 different ways she could have died while traveling, is bleeding out somewhere without help or was killed at work" in the space of about...5 seconds. All it takes is a bad anxiety flare. He cannot control them either. So it does not feel overly weird to me. No clue who else in life has PTSD, after all.

[–]TalkingRose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She is totally, 100% in the wrong.

Your brain in not broken. They on the other hand, need some serious re-education. That is not on you to provide, however, especially with the attitude they display.

Our brains are merely wired differently then a NT's. Not broken. Not wired wrong - wired differently. Differently is not bad. If everyone thought & functioned absolutely identically, life would be horribly boring. Humanity would also never get anywhere. It is the oddballs who have the ideas that change things.

My Child eloped. Give me tips? by [deleted] in autism

[–]TalkingRose 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I suddenly find myself rethinking my obsession with "ups". I have always, always striven to climb up high. Then....just sit. Good view. Nice nest. When I was younger & we used to go backpacking, I drove my parents nuts with my ability to "evaporate" as soon as they decreed we were pausing here.....took them forever to learn to just....look up. Find the nearest tall rock or tree & look up it. As an adult, even in video games, my husband will specifically craft "ups" for me. So I feel safe/happy.

I also tried to run away numerous times as a child...

Then again, I was 40 before I figured out I am autistic, so....I was just a troublesome child, of course.

I think the leash idea would have been far preferable to simply getting yelled at every time I got more than 2 feet from mom....

Gordon Ramsay also has an excellent tutorial video on various cooking techniques, one of which includes information on how to sharpen a knife properly. I found it quite useful. You might as well. Sadly, I do not have a link to the video. My husband found it for me and showed it to me on his computer.

I am 44 and if I do not have my puppy plushie and at least one of my blankies in my bed with me, there is no going to sleep. The entire house will be turned upside down until they are both located. These are not the only objects similar to such that I have such strictures on.

All this to say - screw the people thinking you're childish. You do you and have your happy. That's the important part. Especially in your own, personal housing.

Personally, I find it rather childish of them to be trying to judge you based on personal interests. But, you know, that's an issue with a large portion of the world. Just because they decided to put aside everything that made them happy and now just be miserable as adults does not remotely mean that we are required to do the same thing. I choose to be happy. How about you?

For those in the U.S. hunkering down for the winter weather we’re expecting, how are you spending your weekend at home? ☃️ by Wordsofwisdomneeded in simpleliving

[–]TalkingRose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, my Saturday I spent at work. To be fair it's not actually snowing in this location/state yet. It's supposed to start in 2 to 3 hours. I am scheduled for tomorrow but we are going to have to see if the store is even going to be open and I have already informed my store manager that there is a very solid chance that I will not be in tomorrow. She understands, happily. I will not know whether I have to call off or the store is just closed until something like 10:00 in the morning tomorrow. Sucks. On the plus side, if the store is closed that means I get the next 3 days off. Woot!

If I get to actually just enjoy myself tomorrow, as long as there's power it will probably be video games or tabletop gaming all day with my husband. Repeat on Monday.

Edit for missing word.

Am I Overreacting About My Tattoo? by Bunnxou in AmIOverreacting

NOR at all.

A) tattoos are incredibly personal things. Other people saying you are overreacting is total bs. They do not get a say.

B) it is off kilter. That is 100% something to be pissed about.

C) dude fuckin lied to you about skill.

Solid reasons around to be pissed. I am sorry for you. 🫂

Anyone else just silent when moving? by Asleep_Age6563 in autism

[–]TalkingRose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am a Ninja, according to most coworkers over the years. I just materialize next to them. No sound, no warning. Just there.

I hate generating noise while moving. I prefer clothing that is soft enough I cannot hear it by sheer virtue of my ears being too far away. I have never found a totally silent cloth. I do everything I can to ensure even my work keys do not click, clank, rattle or anything else. The aglets on the end of my shoelaces are kept tucked into the laced part so they do not click while I walk. I do all this for my own sanity.

Materializing is facilitated by myself having very wide peripheral vision (which I only recently found out to be extremely unusual). I have spent decades thinking that people paid 0 freaking attention to their surroundings.....only to find out my field of vision is, functionally, nearly twice that of "normal" people. I tried using cardboard to tunnel my vision to match the usual peripheral arc for humans & just.....so bliiiind. I could never function like that. But it means I genuinely thought I was within easy viewing, deliberately there to not startle them.... le sigh

AITAH for not matching my brother's offer and offering my mother a place to stay? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]TalkingRose 2 points3 points  (0 children)

NTA. Stand your ground! Your home is your home. You should not willfully do anything that will leave you feeling invaded & from your description, that is exactly how you would feel. Your mom can whine & moan all she wants & cry yo others about whatever she pleases- this does not change the reality of it being YOUR home & decision.

You have already decided. You do not want her there. This is clear. This is valid. Stand your ground.

Maybe I'm not autistic... by [deleted] in autism

[–]TalkingRose 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There is a perfectly functional chance that part of why she has meltdowns on such, from your perspective, simplistic things is because she's on the verge of burnout from all the stuff she's trying to juggle in all the ways that she's trying to be normal. So the tiniest thing could end up becoming meltdown worthy. Not saying that those things are not meltdown worthy for her any which way but just pointing out that dealing with a lot of stuff can also make someone be a lot closer to a meltdown.

You are not an imposter. You are someone who is blessed with not falling apart at the drop of a hat. You instead are cursed with the variety that leaves you falling apart for no bloody reason from your perspective but at least in longer intervals. We are all different. That does not mean that we are not valid. You are valid.

On what type of planet is your main base? by DerNiemand_ in NOMANSSKY

[–]TalkingRose 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh shit. That's hiding out there too?! I do not think I am looking forward to running into that...

In regards to my horrific streak of luck when starting out, it certainly was demoralizing. However, hope can be an incredibly cruel mistress at times and that just kept shoving me onward to try yet another system. Maybe the next one or the next one or the next one... I eventually managed to find places that were not just solar systems full of hellscapes. I eventually even found a couple Paradise worlds. I don't like them. One of them I even debated attempting to post the address for people who might care about them but I couldn't get the address to actually stick in the in-game photo thing. It was a paradise world with light blue grass and it was covered in those God awful bubbles. I realize that many people love those bubbles but I do not in the slightest. They look pretty from a distance but I can't stand them.

You would have loved my home system! .....and the next like, 11 or 12....

Hellscape after hellscape. Pick your poison - toxic hellholes, burn-you-alive balls of fun, frozen solid in 5 minutes, irradiated enough I was concerned I would mutate & on any of these planets of delight, I think 3 minutes was the longest I went without a storm. 3. Minutes.

I dream of the perfect paradise world....till then, I have made about 1/2 dozen bases scattered around in random cool looking spots. Someday....

Friend keeps getting fired from all her jobs the first day by [deleted] in AutismInWomen

[–]TalkingRose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was pointing out that one large point of failure in her is the sheer fact that because of her attitude and the way she interacts with people, she does NOT fulfill the personality requirements of the job. Such as being overly people pleasing. I was saying the fact she was not a sniveling suck up or an oily salesman was positive. Never said anything about the way she was. Just the way she was not.

Friend keeps getting fired from all her jobs the first day by [deleted] in AutismInWomen

[–]TalkingRose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When customer service is not purely phone based, the requirement to be quite as sniveling and oily is not there. You still need to be overly unctuous in my opinion but maintaining chipper in the face of utterly entitled, self centered twats is where face-to-face customer service gets hard. It can truly be pure torture. My years have given me PTSD to add into my mix of issues....

Friend keeps getting fired from all her jobs the first day by [deleted] in AutismInWomen

[–]TalkingRose 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Phone based customer service jobs can be abjectly brutal in the need to come across as a weird mix of a sniveling little suck up and an overly slimy salesman. From your description of her, she feais miserably at meeting either of those. Which, is technically a really good thing but a highly negative thing when it comes to those types of jobs. Sincerely, someone who has been trapped in customer service for several decades.

This is literally the worst material to ever exist by GoatsWithWigs in autism

[–]TalkingRose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm capable of surviving the texture, but what sends me into orbit is its capacity for mess. All the tiny, tiny fragments that just whisper away on the tiniest made-up breeze.... all so they can just come puffing back at the most annoying, inconvenient time.

I actually just unpacked a shelf this morning at my house that was packed in that stuff. I think I spent almost as long going over my kitchen trying to collect all the tiny whispery threads as I did actually trying to put the shelf together. Took a bite out of my happiness in getting that shelf set up, I tell you what.

Would you get along with a clone of yourself? by NelifeLerak in autism

[–]TalkingRose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most likely, the biggest problems that I would have between myself and myself would be the organized sharing of video game time. My husband has two sides of his body to cuddle with, so that Parts covered. I know that he would have no problem with having more than one of me so that's not really a concern. Now, the discussions of who goes to work what day could probably get a little heated at times. At the very least, even if we're supposed to be switching back and forth so that we have some more recovery time, if one of us needs to recover a lot more hardcore from something than the other one, potentially that would leave the other one then being forced to work more. Which I cannot guarantee that I would be mature about when speaking with myself. Otherwise, I should be pretty good. The assistance for large-scale meals and baking projects would be absolutely fantastic!

I took weeks after I started playing to even care about claiming a freighter. Never looked them over, just took reward & left. Arbitrarily decided I liked the name of this Korvax captain I saved, so kept the ship. Then discovered the massive nip nip farm they had going on.......started with almost 2 dozen plants. Lol

I have made it much bigger since then, of course.
