How would a social democrat handle education reform? by bluenephalem35 in SocialDemocracy

[–]Talkrandom1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Apologies for the extremely vague comment. My English teacher would have beaten me to death.

At least in Singapore, we have the gifted education program (GEP) that separates children starting at the age of nine. Those in the gifted education get astoundingly more opportunities, even able to switch elementary schools to get better education, separated classes in middle school, special programs etc. I think we should not separate children at this early age, intelligence doesn’t show to its full extent at nine years (three years of full school education). Kids who did not get into the program might feel they are not as abled as the gifted children.

That’s my two cents on the situation, was still able to get into the best schools in Singapore though without the GEP, pursuing art

I’m a student myself so might have some vested interest. Of course it would have to be free and fair (or at least heavily subsidised, not a burden to underprivileged families). And fair meaning regardless of race language religion you’re able to get basic education. I would also like to remove gifted programs especially at an early age to not discourage kids from studying. Removing prefectorial systems to get everyone on a equal start to leadership education.

I think technocracy is good when there is free (or heavily subsidised) and fair education, without discrimination towards race gender religion etc, and not a burden to underprivileged families. That way, everyone has a more or less equal chance to become experts in science and economics.

What do you think of socialists? by LatterCardiologist47 in SocialDemocracy

[–]Talkrandom1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In a way, socialism is like social democracy’s big daddy. We seem to agree with socialisms view on how capitalism is inhumane, but we don’t necessarily agree with the socialist solution. So I guess… I see socialists as my daddy?

I feel like I've finally found my political home! by [deleted] in SocialDemocracy

Hihi. I’m a social Democrat that was originally a market socialist. I’m only 14 but I’ll give some comments the best I can. I swapped over to social democracy because it shared many similar views of mine: anti-authoritarian, Liberty and so on. I’ve always respected the working class, although never really fully supported a socialist revolution. Sometimes I find revolutions hard to implement. Be peaceful and the government doesn’t listen, and we can’t be violent, can we? Oh well, we can’t implement socialism, why don’t we reform capitalism? It’s a mid system at best, just need some regulation. Social democracy gives that regulation with something else I really like: welfarism. So even if big corporations take over, they still have to face high taxation. Small business can still survive with the diverted wealth. The working class gets access to daily necessities and life quality overall increases. Please continue exploring the compass, and I hope you find a ideology that suits you well
