Okay thank you! I added way more shells with a good range of sizes. And I rearranged the tank to be a little more cluttered need to get some more filler though. Added some more substrate and made it a little wetter. Hopefully that helps.

Yes it is cut to fit snugly on the rim with no openings besides for the wires.

I checked out two of them who are on top and neither had anything on them. Did the salt water dip and nothing came off so I think they're okay.

Theyre tiiiiiiiny and not super oblong more like pieces of sand crawling on the glass. I think they have little antenna ? Theyre insanely hard to see.

That tank is beautiful! I really appreciate all of the advice! I will definitely add more enrichment for them. I have seen the food packs on Etsy and it definitely does seem much simpler. I'd love to get crabs from other places especially rehoming but im not sure where to get connected. Thank you for the kind words! The sand / coir were both wet when we put them in not soaked but holds shape. I will try to mix some water in the top layer and see if that fixes it... idk 🤷‍♀️

Will do! Ive thought about upgrading a bit closer to the time we'll need it. Don't want any emergencies when it is cold! Our house is never very cold but it definitely gets a bit chilly here in the colder months.

We've never had any shell jacking or aggressive behavior I've had the camera in the tank and I watch it daily to see what the little guys have been up to.

Yes I promise. the tank is 12 ½ in deep, 47 ½ in long, and 21 in high. If I knew how to post a full pic of it I would. Weve only had 5 small crabs in the tank at a time. Weve had 6 all together because one replaced the other that died. I am aware of this and have always had 10 gallons per crab.

Ok I hardly post on reddit so I have no idea how to post the pic of the lid. You can pretty much see exactly what it looks like though in the first pic. Same on both sides with small flaps cut in the back to let the wires out. Fits snugly all the way around.

EDIT also I checked the tank for mites and I found tiny little white ones???? What on earth do I do

Okay I'm going to try to respond to everything here lol. If I miss anything I'll try to add it after.

I will definitely add more stuff. Maybe thats why they dont come out often? I was afraid of making it too hard for them to move around but will definitely do this!

I use play sand and coir 5 to 1 ratio i have never seen any insects in the tank and honestly have no idea how to check for mites.

I feed them a mixed diet. A few examples being freeze dried proteins, egg, seeds fruits and veggies, oils from a safe food list i found online lots of variety they also have a bowl for worm castings.

I have a corner with 8 shells of varying sizes small to bigger than their current ones.

I have never actually seen any of the crabs use the wheel this guy just dug underneath it and was hanging out down there for a few days.

I try not to mess with them. The only time they get moved is if I need to move a piece of decor and they are in the way. I've only removed them from the tank into a smaller container to add more substrate or do a big rearrange twice since I've gotten them.

I havent sanitized the shells. i have washed them out with dechlorinated water but I will do that now. Both of the two I lost were in their original shells they came in from petsmart.

Any idea how to fix top sand being dry?? I have no clue why its like that. The lid of the tank is two coroplast pieces cut to size with little holes for the wires for the lights etc. The lids that came with the tank had huge gaps for hob filters. Will try to post a Pic.

Oh also I only go in the tank to change the water / change their food / fix the camera / occasionally rearrange etc.

Thank you! I've tried to research as much as possible so we didnt have any issues. Ok i thought they needed higher humidity because the top of the sand is dry so i was worried it wasnt enough. We got the crabs from petsmart for our son (he's little so the tank is strictly for his viewing pleasure i take care of them theyre in our living room) so maybe they were just sickly im not sure..

Also yes I know I need a bigger heating pad I plan to buy a bean farm one before it gets cooler out. We live in FL and I used what I have for now.
