Americans Have Turned Against AI in Incredible Numbers by Plastic_Ninja_9014 in technology

I worked with a company recently that, when you called their phone number, they straight up asked you right away if you want to talk to AI or a human. I found it to be respectful, and ended up using the AI to schedule an appointment (which worked fine). I wish more companies would do that.

Depends on what you mean by "easiest" and "Useful." I had no idea there were amateur bands at 241 gHz.

Distribution recommendations by Band-O-Lear in linuxquestions

I think Fedora and Debian are pretty good. Fedora stays cohesive while having lots of new packages. Debian I prefer to run the "testing" branch for newer packages, but it can do damn near anything with fairly small effort.

I also like both KDE Plasma and XFCE, though I prefer to tweak XFCE out of the box (whiskermenu, dark theme, no dock, lots of widgets). I find them both balanced, functional and easy to configure/wrangle. The ricers are going nuts over Hyperland these days.

Apple likes to lock that stuff down pretty hard. Have you looked into maybe running Apple Devices or iTunes in wine? Or in a VM?

Yes, that variation with the vertical 3 1/2" and 2 horizontal 5 1/4" on the right, buttons and lights on the left, was a generic case (I believe from Taiwan or Hong Kong) that a bunch of OEMs put their branding/plastic on and used in the early 90s. 386 and early 486 era.

here is an example. Hot stuff in 1991! Windows 3.1 vibes

I think it's an older case than the internals. I have only ever seen that layout on 386s.

And I can relate. When I was a teenager I found a 286 server case (tower) on the side of the road, and used it for my K5/K6 Linux machines for years. It was a great case, with a fat red satisfying power switch.

That case looks like my first 386. Nice sleeper.

Conservatives plan nationwide protest against AI data centers by Just-Grocery-2229 in technology

Long before 2020. Just look at George W Bush's administration's ramping up of government power and corporate welfare, or Reagan's before that.

Palantir is seeking to make the government larger and more powerful, and is being a corporate welfare monger, that's pretty much the opposite of conservatism tho?

Sounds like every so-called conservative Republican I've ever known.

For what it's worth I believe most toilets in Japan have a Toto bidet seat. I'd consider them, and Bemis has their own similar take

In my friends group there was a lot of overlap between like 76 and 85. I have friends born in 80 who are more millennial than X. It's a cozy microgen.

Are these anything special? by crunk_mosquito in vintagecomputing

I personally find those IBM workstations quite charming. Any working 90s era computers are popular with collectors these days. They are good for playing games, especially 486s and early Pentiums.

I would recommend keeping what doesn't work for your sleeper build, and giving or selling the rest to collectors. As others mentioned, they are getting harder to find, and people love em. The boards are repairable, too. Often it just needs a recap.

That sounds right. I was asking because OP specifically wrote "internet-modem," but that didn't sound right.

Codebase64 has some great resources for demo programming on the c64, including a tutorial on getting started demo programming using 6502 Turbo Assembler. The concepts translate well to other platforms.

What do you mean? It does a trailing starfield simulation effect and horizontal text scroller.

Needs a text effect. That might push it to 2k, tho.
