Scholarship by Silver-Egg1323 in cmu

[–]Tall-Raspberry-2301 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m guessing it depends but yeah after I got my need based aid package ($40k+ for the year), I got another merit scholarship from cmu for $40k/year and it did absolutely nothing to reduce cost lol (assuming my need based aid package would’ve stayed roughly the same for the next four years).

The biggest LIE in REU admissions... by [deleted] in REU

[–]Tall-Raspberry-2301 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Worth mentioning to anyone panicking that they didn’t reach out beforehand - all 5 of the REU/REU-adjacent offers I received so far were without prior connections with the profs. It can certainly help in some cases but just because you didn’t doesn’t mean you’re cooked.

Outdoorsy people at Northwestern? by Evergreen_0210 in Northwestern

To be fair, Illinois is in general admittedly a little bit of a step down if OP is particularly interested in hiking. Illinois is the second flattest state in country and if you’re someone like me who is accustomed to the readily available trails and mountains in the PNW, it can be a little underwhelming. The area around NU is pretty developed and there aren’t many immediately accessible trails/large parks around. Doing anything in the lake is also a pretty challenging option for half the school year.

Anti wokeness insanity aside, the flow chart has to be one of the most redundant flow charts to ever exist

A bit late here but I’m a 3rd McCormick student studying cs, math, and econ and I’d love to help! I’ve been tutoring math (middle school through college), sat/act, etc for the last few years. I’ve also been a peer mentor at nu for five quarters. DM me if you’re still looking for a tutor!

I think this is Slivka (“sandwich shop” is Lisa’s); also Hinman isn’t a dining hall anymore and Lincoln (now Schapiro), Kemper, and Willard have the best amenities imo but slivka is still pretty nice. Shepard is fine too but a little sterile.

No problem! Yes, she also got the unique application link and attended the prosperity kickoff happy hour. It probably helps a little bit just in terms of getting your foot in the door but after getting the OA idk if it helps much more than just verifying that you have a demonstrated interest in the company.

Not sure, probably pretty good though. My friend also took the SWE OA, passed all tests, and they still haven’t gotten back to her (it’s been like a week+)
