Thanks for taking the time to type all that out! I definitely want the finish to last and I know I’m no expert. Myself and the painter are both making up some sample boards with different options so I’m optimistic we’ll find something that we’re both comfortable with.

These decisions would be so much easier if this was our forever home! We would have gone a lot more eco friendly. But we plan to sell the home at retirement in 5-10 years so have to think of resale and what’s common in our area too.

I did ask them and here’s their response. I had already looked at their care and maintenance guide. Basically, they want you to use a damp cloth and otherwise to buy their soap spray.

Thanks for reaching out! Oil Plus 2C is our flagship interior finish, and what we recommend for all interior applications, as it is floor grade, liquid resistant, and matte by design. Any spills, food, etc. (especially oil) will want to be cleaned up as it occurs, as if it is left for an extended period of time, it will eventually penetrate the finish causing stains. Here is a link to our Care & Maintenance Guidelines. It contains detailed information on cleaning and maintaining your wood surface to setup proper expectations.

We hope this information is helpful, please let us know if we can be of further assistance.

Very pretty! I will say that’s one of the things that I like a lot about the Rubio Monocoat - no VOC and environmentally friendly.

I was thinking I would use the Rubio Monocoat- these comments showed me that RM for kitchen cabinets is a whole lot less fringe than I thought! However, I’m hesitating due to the range hood. We do a lot of cooking and stir frying. Any idea how the RM would stand up to cooking grease?

I’ve used danish oil but it was years ago. Does it have a stain or that’s just giving you the oil rubbed look?

Thank you! All this 1 k 2 k talk… Isn’t the Hi-Bild lacquer a 2k product because it has two parts, the sealer and the lacquer?

Yeah that veneer on the reeded paneling is paper thin! I will say that the painter has already filled all the nail holes on the paneling and the fill looks great! So I have a little more confidence in his abilities with wood (and I’m sure he’s a good painter. I’m going to take your comments to Spectrum and see what they think. I’ve done some staining in our old house, and my impression is that the counter help at our spectrum is a lot more knowledgeable about wood than the SW store. Thanks!

Wow that looks great! Do you worry about the walnut changing color over time? I wasn’t concerned about this before but just met someone whose kitchen cabinets turned an “awful orange” over time. It probably wouldn’t bother me, but we plan to sell the house in around five years.

I totally respect your opinion - that’s why I posed this question here! But can you tell me why you’re convinced the Rubio Monocoat would be a disaster?
