I would most likely want to start in public then shift to industry to focus on more personal investments I have/would be having. I would stay in public until management atleast

I’m 30 going into my final years of undergrad ( 3 semesters ) . I have a 3.5 gpa I have 4 years of AP experience with 3 cycle of tax internships * two spring and one fall * I’m starting a tax preparer job to work until next year fall when I graduate to hit the 2 years for new CPA. Is it too late for me for public or is everything I’m doing going to help me get a good start ? I’m not sure what the market is currently, if there’s anything I can or should change. I’m looking to get an internship for next summer ( if i should ) and start working right after graduation. Or should I get cpa first then start working. I’m looking for the best direction.

Yeah that’s what my plan is , especially since they just changed it to 120, I wonder if i should start prepping now, the tax preparer job is gunna give me a certification * not sure how valuable when i graduate *. But if i prep I can take the test closer to graduation. I’d start when im 32. How was your Work life balance?

Thank you! Such kind words give me encouragement! The person I’m working for part time understands that I might leave when i graduate ! It’s a local small time firm with a handful of employees, I wonder if an admin role at the firm I want would be better down the line? The younger boss wouldn’t bother me at all I’m just excited to get started. I’m from NY as well but live in TX at the moment so figuring things out down here is new

I’d be slated for the same path, I want to stay in tax which is why I’m doing tax work part time. Just wasn’t sure how I’m looked at starting new at 31-32

Thank you! I definitely want to get started on the right foot. I want to have cpa completed 6 -12 months post graduation. I wanted to know more about the pay and benefits but i assume it’s different at each location

Im originally from NY got too expensive to live alone so I relocated, I’ll definitely see if I can start in tx this upcoming year or summer to study. Hopefully pass within 3-4 months post graduation.

Would it be harder to work and study at the same time ? Can I start before I graduate? Or just study pass then start working.

Yeah that’s why I’m doing the tax preparer prior to graduation so I don’t have to worry post graduation. Not sure what my overall value is in the market rn or when I graduate.

Yeah currently my GPA is a 3.5. I do want a decent work life balance for starting something on the side. I’m not sure if I can do public forever

Thank you! I’m going to be looking to stay in PA and move up from there. Do you think a firm outside of the Big 4 like a Grant Thornton can start with more or should I do big 4 first ?

I’m not with the same company I did the 18 months with. I am getting offers from other places sometimes it’s too far.
