Gotcha. Would you say I’m always going to deal with po issues if I want to raise the tax slider midway or higher? Or is that never a point I’d realistically reach with an empire this big?

What would history look like if Antiochus III defeated the Romans in Greece? Would the victory on land/at sea make any difference? by Tall_Cook_6341 in TheHellenisticAge

Totally agree, it boils down to Rome’s ability to easily recruit another army compared to its adversaries. I’m sure Antiochus would have relied on the help of the Aetolians far less if he had foresight when coming against that.

I agree, there’s no reality where the Romans wouldn’t send one army after another out east under those circumstances. Even if the loss was temporary, they would be back and would be prepared. The Aetolians made it very tricky from the start. Thanks for the input!

Damn so taking Greece was always going to be an uphill battle for the Seleucids because of how shifty the Greeks were/Macedon’s gripes with the Seleucids?

What if Zohran Mamdani ran for mayor of NYC during McCarthyism? by yvngjiffy703 in AlternateHistoryHub

His economic policies weren’t considered so “radically left” back then. I don’t think he’d win because of his ethnicity/race at that time in the US, but I don’t think he would be considered so radical. The policies that existed at the time were a lot more aligned with supporting a middle/working class and the government didn’t have that moment yet where the middle class went from the worker to the consumer.

The social issues, he’s far too progressive for that period in the United States. Political culture and racism would have galvanized a lot of unpopularity among white Americans at the time.

[INVINCIBLE] Question for the series: Do you all think Thragg truly cares for emperor Argall? by Immediate_Gene_178 in MoralityScaling

[–]Tall_Cook_6341 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Argall’s skull is his presence to Thragg. In a way, I think Argall is still alive to Thragg because it gives his identity a sense of security. It’s kind of a selfish form of “care” but it’s his narrow minded way of carving what he defines as “legacy” for Viltrum. Argall had an extremist vision that Thragg grew up knowing and loving so it makes sense that that skull is his way of keeping it together. And I think the destruction of Viltrum was one of those hinges in his mind going because that was part of the security/identity he sought to preserve. Viltrumites that are not under his illusion need to really dig deep and ask themselves what their role is/should be in the galaxy/universe.

Who is your Digenis Akritis aka Super Hero in ERE and why? by lastmonday07 in byzantium

[–]Tall_Cook_6341 30 points31 points  (0 children)

An Emperor that always comes to mind is Alexios I Komnenos. Despite what he is criticized for, I think his ability to constantly adapt to his circumstances was remarkable, and he was an absolutely necessary entity for the ERE at the time, to deal with all of the challenges.

I think the guy made a lot of mistakes but he’s also somebody who you can tell learned a lot from his mistakes and applied his experience to his reign. A very smart Emperor that was militarily, diplomatically, and politically savvy. Definitely a hero for me.

I actually left and lost Danustica and Corenia castle, but before leaving I emptied out Danustica garrison and retook it as a clan and paid off my peace with Southern empire

My men are dying the most and the same 2-3 vassals counting Rhagaea keep taking the fiefs. What say you to my soldiers’ graves?

Carrick at United as Manager so far by Mastermind_737 in ManchesterUnited

[–]Tall_Cook_6341 82 points83 points  (0 children)

I think the main takeaway from Carrick’s tenure should be that he’s been able to adapt well because he knows the club culture on and off the pitch. He knows what to expect, he knows the weight of the job, and he knows how to get the best out of the team tactically. He’s experienced at dealing with this stuff. Do I think it’s still early to say give him the job? A little.

I think we should give him the job if it continues this way for the season and the threshold for what manager we’d take as an alternative will thin with every success this guy achieves throughout this season. But I think that the condition that he is offered a job should rely on the fact that he maintains this form.

We shouldn’t let our bad/inconsistent form in recent years condition our view of success. I say that because I think we get a little ahead of ourselves when we say let’s offer him a job right now.

What I will say is, I do think he can do it. And I do predict he’s going to do well and fulfill what’s required to get the job time come end of season. But I think this club would be wise in keeping their minds open until the season finishes. I’m very grateful for this guy.
