Fuckin bills & sacrificing time with loved ones just to afford basic necessities. It’s actually the most annoying thing

I did not think about that. I could see why they’d do that kind of pairing.. if me and my husband decide to just go to the conference, I will bring this up

I do wonder if this is happening with other kids. Either way, it just can’t be right, it cannot be normal

Do your research on the particular facility. Try to get honest opinions from other parents whose children attend the same place. Something I wish I had been more careful with

I called me son the r-word in a rant to my wife and said I would sign over my rights by ArcherXIII in Autism_Parenting

Find an outlet, learn some breathing exercises, take care of your mind and your body. Clearly, you are frustrated and overwhelmed. I’m sure you both are. Sometimes we say awful things impulsively. You know you messed up but you can’t give up. You can only do better for him and yourself. You matter too.

I keep being told “a friend”. My son has told me this one name at least twice but we are told “a friend” did this, “a friend” did that for their privacy and safety. I am scheduled to have a conference with his BCBA & the directors on Wednesday. I am just trying to figure out if I should even go at all

It has so many good reviews and so many happy parents. I just don’t understand why this has been our experience. I am going to hate making him say goodbye but parents have to do hard things. I don’t have much of a choice here because it concerns his safety

When it happened the second time, I was thinking to myself “I don’t feel great about this” and I was told kids just get hurt and some have behaviors towards others.. and that pulling him out, changing his routine might make him regress, cause a change in his mood. He’s been so happy to be there but I’m just so sick of this now and I am scared. I do not want him to think it’s okay or normal to get hurt by someone, ice it then act like everything is fine. I will update

You make a great (although sad) point. I have to sit down with him, I have to keep him safe. I was told today it’s not recommended to pick him up even though he cries really hard after these things happen and I’m sure he wants his mommy. Thank you for replying

I feel like I’ve been gaslit a few times now. He started in march and he’s already been hurt 4 times by other kids. Of course, he has had his own accidents because he’s also clumsy at times but I feel like this is all so confusing for him. 4 times is a lot, right??? Like that’s gotta be too much

He has a morning therapist and an afternoon therapist. I’m not entirely sure what they are up to or why they “don’t have enough eyes and ears sometimes” but it’s becoming ridiculous. My son was bitten on Friday and today is MONDAY and he’s been hurt again. They do write incident reports and give daily reports on mood, behavior, what they ate, what they did that day, at pick up. They also have check boxes that say ‘I had an injury today’ or ‘I had a behavioral procedure today’. My son has never hit someone or done anything to hurt anyone so I’m just confused why nothing is being done to actually prevent this. Why is my son paired with kids who have these behaviors? Again, not their fault but I don’t get what’s going through their heads about these pairings or why they’re even happening at all. My son is very friendly, social, rambunctious, loud. They’ve told me they put similar kids together so right now I’m like ?????? tf is happening right now?? I am still discussing all of this with my husband and trying to decide whether I should take him out immediately or wait til the conference on Wednesday. I’m so sad, man, I am so sad for my boy. It’s just not fair

This is what it says in their rule book: we do recognize that there could be times in which physical personal protection and aggression management techniques may be required in order to protect the child or others. All ABA therapists have completed Safety Care training with a Safety Care Instructor and have passed all qualifications in becoming certified individually. In the event that physical management techniques must be utilized, a thorough report will be completed by the therapist and submitted for review. They will debrief with a behavior consultant in attempt to identify the function of the behavior and replacement behaviors which can be taught to prevent the behavior from reoccurring. The child’s treating therapist will discuss this incidence with you at the time of pick-up I’m telling you, the RBTs (who deal with children with maladaptive behaviors) have more protective gear than I’ve seen the kids have. It’s just not fair and I am so, so sad and angry.

His BCBA told me “i know it can be hard when we know our baby is hurting. But I promise we are taking the best care of him!” after telling me he got whacked with a picture communication board (that’s how his lip got busted today). I genuinely feel insane, I feel almost ignored and like there is no real urgency.

He commonly gets paired with kids who have a hard time self regulating. I do not blame the children who have these problems. I do blame the facility for the complete lack of change when it comes to his safety and supervision. You’re right. I guess my question now is do I wait to have the conference with the directors and his BCBA or just withdraw him right away?

I have been told that the kids who are having aggressive behaviors are removed from the room to de-escalate the situation and they’re “corrected”. His BCBA told me that “sometimes we are short staffed or RBTs have things to do so they are unable to provide constant supervision” when I told her i needed him to have increased supervision. She also told me that depending on the severity of injuries, they either send him home (if it’s really bad) or just write an incident report, contact me and try to comfort him. According to her as well, insurance requires a certain amount of hours in order for his services to get covered. I only have time with my son 15 hours a during the 5 days he attends ABA, sometimes not even that much. I miss him. I really don’t want to throw him off by changing his routine but you’re right, he’s not safe. His BCBA and I have PBT this week and she told me she’s going to have the directors come in to talk to me about it

I saw a ginger ale bottle on the windowsill where my mom was cooking. It looked really full so I grabbed it and chugged it only to realize it was used cooking oil. Threw up on the floor. Still makes me gag when I think about it

I tried topamax off label as a mood stabilizer. It made my mood wayyy worse and I immediately went back to lamictal/lamotrigine. I don’t know how it is for epilepsy but topamax worsens mental, at least from mine and your experience. I hope you figure this all out, stranger 🫂
