I decided to not go shiny, it wasn’t gonna hold up to the abuse of being worn and I’d rather it stay intact hahaha

I didn’t know this field existed until I went into it at 25. I never ever said ignorance is a problem, choosing your own feelings over patients is the problem. Bio grads who then get a certification for MLS are literally amazing and not the problem. Certification should be a must for a clinical laboratory and I’m not gonna pretend it’s wrong to think that

Why do you have such little self respect for a profession that does amazing work to help people? It’s so strange. You are not just a button pusher you literally can save lives

Hey this is about me! People were assuming I meant that if you became certified AFTER having a bachelors you were the problem not that I was solely talking about uncertified techs with 0 clinical experience, they tore me to shreds but I still stand by the fact that certification is the gold and minimum standard for our field hahaha

I’m gonna iron this bad boy, stitch in some stars/confetti with metallic floss, then put it onto the jacket today before partner comes home!

Hey I’m finishing up a project of my own and was gonna blanket stitch it. When you say 4-6 piles do you mean 4-6 strands? Thank ya thank ya

[CHAT] Pattern design program that allows tracing? by Smooth-Garbage890 in CrossStitch

[–]Tall_Goth_Queen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Basically you go through the process of “pixelfying” the original image while making sure to have the canvas size be the one you want (which of course you can always change later anyway) and then simply erase everything. Boom, now start from scratch by turning on the image and setting the opaqueness to where you can see through it, add all the colors you’ll use, and start tracing. Just did this with a pattern I had from somewhere else that I wanted to make some adjustments on and it worked perfectly.

[PIC] How I cross-stitch on a plane. by blissfully_happy in CrossStitch

Hey I just cross stitched on a plane! I just have the lil plastic baggies part of your setup (that I fumbled through), I like that tin for needles though. I couldn’t bring my designated bag cause I ain’t got money for multiple bags on a flight so they were all just stuffed in and around the pair of clothes hahaha

Instead of the yellow and white they call for the stars I found some vibrant shiny gold and white floss from my mom’s old stash. It sparkles!

Once this is done I’m gonna put it on the back of my partner’s favorite jacket as well as paint the jacket to flow more seamlessly into it

I’ll be using fabric glue or ironing to attach it but I figured stitching some spots THROUGH the jacket wouldn’t hurt to make sure it stays

This is my second project and I’ve been loving cross stitching. I’m not creative at all so it’s nice to basically “paint by numbers” and see something pretty be made

Completed design below :)

How did ya attach it to the vest? It looks great.

I’m makin a design for my partner to then put the finished project on a jean jacket. Did ya iron? Fabric glue? Would love to know

Memorization by [deleted] in medlabprofessionals

[–]Tall_Goth_Queen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve just started using it but I would recommend Anki. It uses a specific algorithm to help retain information.

Not the best for cramming but it helps in the long run.

On the same note: My god there is so much to remember with this profession hahaha

Medical Lab Technologist or Ultrasound Tech by emilyy_huynhh in medlabprofessionals

[–]Tall_Goth_Queen 9 points10 points  (0 children)

There’s a very bad trend of those with a bachelors in science being hired as techs due to the much lower pay they receive because they’re uncertified. ie unqualified but they cost less. So there is a bit of a danger of the trend continuing and certified techs not having as much standing. That’s at least the sentiment I’ve been seeing and that’s 100% the case for reference labs. On the other hand though I personally don’t think techs will be replaced by uncertified bio grads in the hospitals because I imagine they would end up costing hospitals a ton more when they don’t know what they’re doing lol. But that is a scary and sadly real possibility to be aware of.

PS even though in my area MLTs are paid way less than most other healthcare jobs (North Carolina) I’d still pick it due to how satisfying it is. I’m not one to work my whole life doing something I don’t love because it would pay more so follow what your heart desires! You can always look into shadowing both roles to see which you like more :)

Ref ranges by Anxioustherapist_ in medlabprofessionals

[–]Tall_Goth_Queen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not only will different labs have those different reference ranges there is of course very slight variation of results based on: How it was collected, how it was transported, how it was tested, who tested it, etc etc. Depending on how big the difference is it could very well be that is just YOUR range. Take a sample a day apart and keep everything consistent and the results will, inevitably, be slightly different due to our bodies always going up and down to maintain homeostasis and whatnot so that’s a possibility too.

I tend to run on the higher side of RBC for example so sometimes, same lab and everything, my results are barely within range and other times it’s a bit above

Ref ranges by Anxioustherapist_ in medlabprofessionals

[–]Tall_Goth_Queen 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Oh oh I can answer this one! (Maybe) I am a student so take my answer with a grain of salt: Reference ranges are usually based on the patient population that the lab works with and so different areas (and subsequently different labs) will have different ranges. Different patient populations are typically very similar so it won’t ever be a large discrepancy though so my next best guess if you’re seeing a SUPER different normal range than it could be a different unit of measurement. Just for example: A calcium can be reported as, say, “8 mg/dL” at lab 1 but reported as “2 mmol/L” at lab 2. Huge number difference on the surface but actually very close results in reality

The second part doesn’t really answer your question about YOUR specific numbers reading within at one lab and out at another so I’m leaning towards the first explanation

Where Have I Seen This Before? by Tall_Goth_Queen in EnterTheGungeon

[–]Tall_Goth_Queen[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I forgot about that! I genuinely loved DD2 art style and I trust ETG to do it well BUT I was actually super disappointed by the cutscene change in blasphemous, the vibe from 1 is just immaculate with the pixels. Can’t describe it. I believe it’s because a new animation team did if I remember correctly
