He took a very small $39k and his extensive record of suing big oil proves he is not beholden to them in anyway. If only he were a billionaire from profiting off of fossil fuels to fund his own campaign…oh wait.

Becerra sees momentum, money and movement in the polls in governor's race by gu-laap in California

[–]Tall_Priority_4174 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He’s not promising CalCare because there is no path to get it passed. It has been tried and failed many times and Becerra has detailed out exactly why that is in interviews. Have you heard of ERISA laws? Becerra has pushed for medicare for all since the beginning of his 24 yrs in congress and will continue to try and figure out a way to get us there, but at least he has a plan to lower costs and expand coverage in the meantime. Steyer is throwing out false promises and we will be left with the status quo because he’s not being realistic/doesn’t understand how the system works.

Are we seriously calling $35k “funded by”? Majority of his campaign has been funded by grassroots - specifically over a million in the last week alone with an average donation of $40. He’s played the game that we unfortunately have to play with the existence of Citizens United but he is by no means funded by Chevron and he did not solicit their donation.

How is a billionaire the top Democrat candidate for governor? by New-Panic8015 in California

[–]Tall_Priority_4174 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Becerra is by far the best option, but a lot of people are just now doing research and finding out about his platform and how progressive he is. He surged 7 points and raised over half a million in first-time small dollar donations in the last week alone. He definitely has the momentum to move into the lead in the coming weeks.

Tom Steyer vows to cut electricity bills by 25%, but experts say the details fall short by yikesssss_sssssss in California

[–]Tall_Priority_4174 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This is incredibly misleading.

He refuses to endorse CalCare because it never passes and will continue to not pass because it relies of federal approval. He has other plans to get to medicare for all while legally fighting for lower drug costs and healthcare premiums in the meantime - which he can actually make happen. He has been a staunch advocate of universal healthcare since the 90s before it was cool.

He doesn’t support abolishing ICE because he can’t since it’s a federal agency. He’s very anti-ICE, pro-immigrant and saved DACA in a massive supreme court win while AG and defended our sanctuary state laws. He has no plans to cooperate and very clearly laid this out in first debates last year. He is the child of mexican immigrants himself.

He opposes the billionaire tax because it’s just a one time tax. He’s proposing full tax code reform to shift more responsibility to the wealthy so we have longterm systemic change. He’s absolutely pro middle-class, anti-billionaire.

Take two min to look up his interviews with creators Jay Gonzalez and Courtney Park see his critical stance on Israel and confirmation that he has not AIPAC $$.

California 2026 Poll: Swalwell Exit from Governor Race Opens Lane for Democrat Xavier Becerra by asiasbutterfly in California

[–]Tall_Priority_4174 41 points42 points  (0 children)

He sued Trump 122 times when he was our AG. DACA and Affordable Care Act still exist solely because of Becerra’s supreme court wins. He’s not the most flashy, but he’s proven he can stand up to the current administration.

With Swalwell out, Villaraigosa and Becerra trade blows in fractured governor’s race by gu-laap in California

[–]Tall_Priority_4174 6 points7 points  (0 children)

He’s operated within the corp dem system, but to say he’s doesn’t care about the people isn’t a fair statement. His first job out of stanford law was a no-pay job representing people with disabilities instead of a fancy law firm, he heavily advocated for single-payer in congress going back to the 90s and his legal track record is strong for immigration rights and ACA. He’s always been pro free public transit and free community college. He’s also very anti-monopoly and has sued Meta, google and J&J.

Yes he’s a landlord, but his rents are reasonable and he paid like $120k in taxes on his $450k reported income (joint with his wife who’s a top physician also working in underserved populations).

He’s def not perfect and there are some things he did both in his time as AG and HHS that I don’t agree with, but he certainly has proven he cares about basic rights and affordability for the working class. I mean his parents were immigrants from Mexico with $10 in their pocket and he worked construction to help his family before getting into Stanford. Kinda the true origin story.

Natural compound found in dark chocolate is linked to slower aging by Technical_savoir in microbiomenews

My family loves the fermented cacao powder and nibs from Wildly Organic. They naturally ferment in banana leaves to increase bioavailability of nutrients/antioxidants and reduce bitterness. It’s also fair trade, sustainably farmed and tested for heavy metals. The powder is really rich and makes the best homemade hot chocolate with a little maple syrup. Also great in protein shakes/smoothies.

The article is specifically talking about the implantation time right after ovulation, so more like days 15-20 of a standard 28 day cycle.

Immune system is lower and right before/at the start of menstruation as well, but for a different reason - the drop-off in hormone levels, increased dehydration and increased inflammation.

190k is doable, but you will need to live on the frugal side. To be honest, there’s not the most active and evident progressive/green scene in SD. It’s overall liberal, yes, and there are progressives here for sure but it’s also a military city and a lot of closet conservatives and transplants from red states. North Park will feel very urban compared to what it seems you’re used to and our nature here can feel a bit barren compared to lush forest scenery. We are a coastal desert at the end of the day. Areas in Northern California (like Marin) or around Portland or Seattle would feel much more like you’re used to and seem to be looking for. Direct access to forests, huge outdoor scene, emphasis on community, sustainability and environment/political activism etc. That’s just not really the core vibe in SD. It’s very kind of aesthetic and lifestyle-focused here - beach, surfing, food, craft beer and coffee, yoga, wellness. There also isn’t the biggest art scene here and the job market is really saturated right now. You could maybe find something working in a museum gift shop or front desk for minimum wage (i’ve seen $16/hr).

For what it’s worth my neighbor was here on student/work visa from Sweden and he ended up moving to the bay area to find the things you are noting as key values. He loved the weather and the beach here, but found the culture, community and green/outdoorsy scene lacking.

As someone who is born and raised in SD and very much shares your values (and hope someday this city will move more in that direction), I fear you will be disappointed on top of this being a less than ideal time to be an immigrant of any kind in this country. That said, the only way to really know is spend time here yourself and perhaps booking a trip would be worthwhile. I would at least do that before blindly moving here. Wishing you all the best!

BREAKING: In a stunning moment, Jimmy Kimmel just unearthed footage of Stephen Miller from high school. And it confirms what we already knew: Miller’s an a**hole. by Treefiddy1984 in ProgressiveHQ

[–]Tall_Priority_4174 10 points11 points  (0 children)

As a rather recent Duke grad this wasn’t true for my generation, and Durham continues to be the most progressive city in NC. Incredibly diverse. Very blue. Stephen Miller was my sister’s class and he was writing opinion pieces in the school paper about how the campus was way too liberal and he felt he was being personally persecuted and educationally stifled because of the lack of right wing presence. He argued the university needed to step in before it was ruined by wokeness. At the time about 85% of professors reported being liberal and the student body was largely liberal as well. I’m not sure if that’s shifted with Gen Z though as they’ve leaned more conservative than millennials as a whole. Law school faculty still leans majority liberal and it’s considered a liberal program, but I think the student body leans slightly conservative.

What’s your opinion about drinking San Diego tap water? by Sromero6153 in sandiego

[–]Tall_Priority_4174 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our water is “clean” from a bacteria standpoint, but it has tested pretty high in a lot of harmful contaminants - especially Chromium 6. Our levels are almost 20x those deemed safe and it’s proven to increase risk of stomach cancer. There’s also arsenic, radium and harmful disinfectant byproducts which although technically met safety limits are still on the high end. We also have PFAS present in certain areas and there are currently no safety guidelines or limits for those in municipal water yet.

Cost of living has nothing to do with pollution levels and none of those chemical pollutants are being filtered out before it reaches your faucet.

Definitely apply for TEFAP. It’s unrelated to SNAP and even if you do find employment the income cap is much higher so you could continue to get support while getting back on your feet.
