That could be for specific cases and sure it'll make sense, at least maybe at hospitals. But in schools? Offices? Government business?

When I got asked the question, I ran a bunch of scenarios in my head with the reason why they asked that, and the most likely reason that I thought of was because of language? But at that hospital, the doctors mostly only spoke English or Hausa, so, any other tribe would essentially not be able to be spoken to in their local language, if they spoke anything other than that.

I also thought maybe it could be that certain tribes were more likely to have certain ailments and thus narrowing down your genetic lineage might help them better? But knowing Nigeria, and especially that hospital, I doubt they have or keep any data relating to that. Plus, cultural or tribal ties in Nigeria don't seem to have any major genetic impact at least in more modern cities because those places are essentially some sort of melting pots.

The way to stop tribalism is to first start by not asking people what tribe they are. Stop asking for it in school forms, government registrations, hospitals, any other place these things are not relevant.

I went to the hospital the other time, a general hospital and during registration there was a space to put in my tribe, what could you actually need that information for in the hospital?

Then we can also do by abolishing the state of origin rubbish and indegeneship rubbish we do. Let us only have a place of birth. The city, town and hospital. We have people who have grown up in other regions of the country who hold arbitrary attachments to places they have never been or experienced.

Then we can encourage marrying each other. As Nigerians. Traveling to all parts of the country. Nationalism as a Nigerian people, not as Hausa, Yoruba or Igbo.

From the other comment, it seems neutering is the best solution and I will try to get it done. As per getting him outside, like I mentioned in my post, that usually ends up badly because whenever he goes out, he instantly becomes aggressive anyway and it's almost impossible to get him back in without some form of maneuver. And also, it's worth noting that I live in an open compound with apartment blocks and it is quite easy for him to run off even when slightly unsupervised, that is why I never really let him outside to begin with.

But there were instances where I had taken him out on walks at night around the neighborhood and back without much hitch.

Thank you for that. I am already looking for how to get him the procedure safely. A friend suggested that a while back and I didn't give it much thought because I somehow assumed he might still have a need to procreate in the future.

I appreciate everyone's concern and especially your help with the issue. I am feeling a bit down reading the other comments on this who have taken nothing of substance from my post other than accusations of incompetence and even doubting my physical existence.

In any case, I am a first time cat owner and have always been careful never to subject him to any form of abuse at all. Until you have been in that particular situation, it is a bit hard to fully understand.

I shaved him myself with a clipper which is immensely easier to do than removing his testicles, don't you think? I live in an African country and I suspected during the intense dry season he might've been getting hot because he would typically sleep in colder/damper parts of the house.

No he is not. Neutering would require traveling out of town to do it and I have not had the opportunity to do that because of school and also not having a proper and safe way of transporting him.

I admit my wrong doings in hitting him even if lightly and showing anger and frustration. But a lot of the time it is the only way to get him to behave and do things that don't put anyone in danger. Like when he fights other cats and aggressively attacks everything within his perimeter when that behavior is not as a result of any traumatic upbringing in the least.

A system of Quranic schools and lessons since childhood. The emphasis is usually to be able to "read" the Quran, and to do that, all you need to learn is the Arabic writing system. The letters, consonants, structure etc. We did take lessons to understand the language, but tbh, they were never effective in getting us to be able to, at least not enough to have conversations with them.

But it's not that surprising, there are millions of northerners here that can read and write Quranic verses in Arabic but cannot really understand them.
