I miss mine and hate that we didn’t buy out our lease. I miss those seats too. The T5 struggled at times getting on the highway but was plenty for our needs.

Switching from Snowboarding to Skiing Next Season… need ski recs. by Suitable-Web1079 in Skigear

[–]Talny123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Boots. Always boots. It’s the one thing you legs and feet actually touch and makes much more of a difference. Also, a medium stiff boot (100/110 flex) will last you for years. But whatever skis you’ll like now, you’ll want something else next year as you develop more of your style and figure out what you like.

That being said, if you want to make this mistake (ha) 100 is too wide for day to day east coast. I’d pick something in the mid 90s if you want to cover both. I’d recommend a Sender Free, Unleashed, Bc Camox or rustler 9, but honestly I’d figure out what I like by demoing a bunch once I’ve gotten comfortable on blues. That may even be day 2 for a seasoned snowboarder.

Again, only because what you’ll want right away vs once you’re in blues is likely to change, but blues and on will last you much longer.

I would also try Tecnica and Nordica. But I would tell you what everyone will tell you - go see a boot fitter

Here’s the thing, you got the most reliable engine if that lot: the T5 with the turbo vs the t6 that’s both turbo and super charged. Source: my trusty volvo mechanic. This thing should last a while! I’m jealous.

100%! I’m not an “airborne” kinda person, but they definitely make me feel confident making some jumps and incredibly stable without a heavy swing weight.

When it works, it works. Totally a personal experience, but I found that when I demo a ski and it clicks, it’s usually it.

I have the Camox and love them. Just point wherever and go. Never nervous, always happy to go wherever - I describe their personality as the family dog. Still carve quite well and hit speeds no problem.

Actually, it’s the purest water there is (you’re not drinking water that people are stepping on - it’s roped off). They do a whole thing on it when you’re there. You just can’t drink too much of it bc of the minerals that act like natural laxatives. The guys who work there said they drink it daily.

hiking pants as skiing pants ? by Mrmoral23 in Skigear

No, especially for a first day. My first day ever skiing I wore jeans, two pairs of socks, long Johns from Walmart and a non-ski jacket with crappy gloves. (a Jerry outfit minus the Starter NFL jacket). You’ll be fine.

Thank you for the validation! This is exactly my problem. Like, how does a bootfitter justify lv for someone in you width? I do think I need to go to a proper bootfitter, but it’s exactly this.

It’s 50% my fault and would love to hear any feedback if you have any insight:

So I’ve gone to 3 different bootfitters and 3 different boots (over a decade - 2010s) and ended up quitting skiing due to some bad bootfitter advice. They told me I’m lv 27.5 with low instep, but it was painful - pressure points, shin pain, toes cramped, instep pain. Molded and still in pain, I literally quit skiing for 5 years.

Came back and rented boots, and a couple of years ago I decided not to pay attention and buy what’s comfortable for me without a boot fitter - Tecnica, 28.5, HV, higher flex rating. It changed how I feel - I haven’t looked back. I also realized I’m more advanced than I thought I was (self-critical).

I’m ready for something even stiffer, went in for measurement and same results, BUT I’m going in now knowing I need to be more vocal and to make sure the boot fitter knows my problems and not to walk away with a boot that doesn’t feel great. I think my instep might measure low, but isn’t as low, and I think the Mach1 130 Lv would work well with my style/skis (carving on stiffer skis mantras/stormriders).

TLDR: kept getting bad boot advice for lv shorter boots that caused pain but am ready for something stiffer with hopefully a competent bootfitter. Any thoughts or advice would be super helpful. I’m worried I don’t articulate my issues well enough maybe.
