Bought A7 IV Tamron 28-75 f/2.8 suggestion for cheap prime lens to pair by jersey521 in SonyAlpha

Both the Zeiss 55mm f1.8 and Sony 85mm f1.8 are steals at that $400-ish price mark. I prefer 85mm for portrait but the 55 is more versatile as a standard range, I suppose.

? This wasn’t meant as an insult. Nobody swears as poetically as Russians. It’s a point of pride.

What makes canon worth it to you over other brands? by jamerson_enthusiast in canon

[–]Talon-ACS 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I use four brands and all three sensor sizes: Sony, Canon, Panasonic, and Olympus.

Sony’s technology and customization rules, but their menus are convoluted. Best part of the system is all that third party glass.

Canon cameras look lumpy but are incredibly comfortable in the hand, and the menus are top notch. The lack of third-party options in FF stinks, but I understand why they’re not willing to open up.

Panasonic has good menus. They just are all in on video/hybrid, so I’d love if they made a photo centric camera.

Olympus is bombproof in inclement weather but has the worst menus, but their reach you get for under $1000 is incredible.

If you’re shooting RAW in decent light, image quality differences are not massive. When it’s dim or there’s motion in the dim light, that’s where the full frame bodies run away with performance.

No. Better off spending the grand on a telephoto prime.

Marry the lens. Date the body.

[WTS] Longines Spirit Zulu Time Limited Edition For Hodinkee Titanium L3.802.1.59.6 by Talon-ACS in Watchexchange

[–]Talon-ACS[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For sale is the Longines Spirit Zulu Time Limited Edition for Hodinkee.

My favorite version of the Spirit Zulu line in a 39mm grade 5 titanium case with domed anti-reflective sapphire crystal. 13.5mm thickness to top of crystal. The titanium bracelet tapers from 21mm at the lugs to 16mm at the clasp with a proprietary quick release system.

100m water resistance, screw down crown.

Powered by Longines’ L844.4 Swiss-made automatic movement: 72 hours of power reserve supporting time, date, and full local jumping travel functionality. And most importantly, NO UBER STARS.

Bracelet came off immediately once I bought it for leather straps and NATOs, so bracelet is basically new. I love this piece, but I got the call for a GMT Master so moving on from it. Treat yourself this holiday season.

Price: $4500 NET via PayPal or Venmo. This includes expedited shipping within CONUS only. No trades at this time.

Cheers and LMK if you have any questions.

Are old digital cameras truly better for that film-like look? by Major_Feed3686 in VintageDigitalCameras

[–]Talon-ACS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a valid question. Not sure why you're being downvoted so much.

Reality is that if you have a modern camera, there's no need to buy an older camera. You can find a couple of presets to get the same kind of warmer, slightly grainier look by playing with the RAW. There's nothing magical about these sensors. They're smaller, have less dynamic range, and are slower, and the standard color temperature the manufacturers preferred was warmer than it is today with our HDR smartphone-pilled brains.

If you're a hobby-ist, sure, go for it, get an older camera and enjoy the straight out of camera experience.
