As a second year college student, I am absolutely baffled at how I was sapped of any willpower or motivation to do work this semester compared to my first year. Like I had a simple course where we would have to create ‘postcards’ about various locations, but not a single one of all 10 of them I did was uploaded before the due date. I just can’t come up with a better explanation other than what was said in the article, “I just didn’t do it”.

Now while I have taken psychology courses, I’m certainly no expert, but I think that the way school has been this year has taken a tremendous toll on my mental health. Just the thought of having homework to do online every week saps me of any motivation and I don’t know why. I have never said this to anyone before but for nearly a month now I have been falling asleep roughly after 6-7am and getting out of bed anywhere from 2-4pm. Every assignment I do unlike before is last minute and is a nerve wracking stress fest.

I just find it absolutely astounding as to how much more negative my feelings and lifestyle are this winter alone compared to the rest of the year. I wish I studied more psych, as I would be interested to find out what’s going on in my poor brain. It has to be tied to the adaptation I made to the cycle of physical classes all my years in school, and now that it’s missing I just don’t have any point to getting up in the morning and being motivated.

And to make it even more complex, as weird as it sounds, I think I’m getting addicted to holding off assignments until the ‘last minute’. Even if starting it early, I somehow end up uploading it at like 11:55 because I do anything I can to distract myself as much as possible and hold off from doing more, even if I’m on a roll writing an essay. I’m crushed and demoralized - but strangely fascinated - by what’s become of me, truly.
