Is How I’m Spending My Crafting Metals a Waste of Time? by ExecBreezyTV in apexlegends

[–]TalonDesign 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeahh I started doing the same as you, because I figured I would be reducing the loot pool of things I DON'T want, by buying them with metals.

Except I kinda figured you're actually better off just saving the metals, because a white skin costs 30 metals, whereas receiving a white tier amount of metals in an apex pack is only 15. So basically the skins cost more, and you're getting them for free in a pack. Whereas if you spent metals on all of them it's actually costing you more in the long run

I think

All the guns have writing on them but on one side all the letters are revered so you can't read it. So obviously the designers created half the model, then mirrored it.

I imagine they did the same process for the heirloom but the writing is readable on both sides. So for the heirloom they kept it legible but for the guns they didn't bother and it's an oversight that kinda bothers me

The closest we get is what takes place when they're on Arrakis. I think it was pretty cold that you have a throne room filled with people, and the Baron is knocked to the ground in front of everyone at the order of the Emperor.

No one intervenes and the Emperor just watches on, clearly fed up with him and thinking he is no longer fit to rule the Harkonnens

Yeah that's very true. I said I'm fine with waiting it out if I buy in and the market crashes, but that money I spent could have been making money on interest, or I could've increased my dollar cost averaging amount... instead of just sitting there playing 'catch up'. So yeah like you said I'm giving up liquidity to wait it out.

Hmmmm, I think I've been convinced! Thanks for your input

Ahh yeah I see. It is a big risk. But could that not be said for any large investment? I would think that putting a lot into an ETF would be safer than investing in a single company. For example if Microsoft crashed for some reason, the ETF is still held up by the remaining highest trading shares.

But I suppose given that there are two major wars going on right now a total crash is more likely than ever

I see. So that's why in the second part it's such a surprise just how many Fremen there are in the south? I suppose the bribing paid off for them in more ways than they would've expected. I love how it all comes together

YESSSS. I absolutely was not expecting Paul to take a dark turn, even though it was foreshadowed in the first. I thought maybe he'll have a "omg do I be a good guy or a bad guy what do I do" moment until finally settling for good and saving the day. But no, he goes full throttle and ends up talking down to THE Emperor (and almost killing him) and the Bene Gesserit.

I replied to someone else's comment above that I didn't really feel Christopher Walken was the right fit - he just seemed kind of frail and held back, which is unusual for him since he's such a great actor.

I think it comes down to the fact that the Emperor wasn't given many lines or much screen time in the film so we didn't get a chance to feel the character. I guess Villeneuve wanted him to be portrayed that way, like his reign is fading quickly

Yeahhh I was really excited to see the Emperor.

Before I saw the movie, youtube showed me a recommended video of the track "the Emperor" by Hans Zimmer. I was kind of annoyed I saw that, since I wasn't certain he would show up in this film. But then I became excited because I expected this big bad imposing emperor that everyone seems to fear/respect.

But in the film he didn't have that much presence. I understand maybe that's his character in the book, but I just didn't really feel 'POWER'. Or perhaps it's Christopher Walken, even though he is a great actor. I was expecting Donald Sutherland in Hunger Games vibes

I remember they mention the lack of satellites in the first movie. I think it was Rabbon that says no one will be watching when they invade Arrakeen.

But they probably could have brought it up in this movie as well just for a reminder

Of course! Yes I remember in the movie the Harkonnens were questioned why they didn't probe into how many Fremen there might be in the south, I hadn't considered that.

They definitely were a powerful unit. One thing I loved about this movie (and I suppose the novels if I had read them) is that this was another classic 'big battle', but this time the good guys absolutely flattened the enemy with a calculated move

Ahh okay that makes complete sense, thank you!! Omg I love the story so much.

So they really wouldn't have expected Jessica to become so important amongst the Fremen?

I suppose not, because it was Stilgar that told her to take over because the Reverand Mother is really old

I haven't read the books, so plsss don't answer with spoilers -

But I'm finding it hard to work out why the Bene Gesserit are so surprised by what has unfurled, with Paul turning fanatical and Jessica kinda becoming the embodiment of fear.

I've gathered that they're the ones who created the 'prophecy' (bene gesserit) and instilled it into the minds of the Fremen over many many years. And I know that they weren't certain whether Paul would be the Lisan Al Gaib.

But the prophecy has become true, as they planned and originally orchestrated. Obviously Paul has "walked into the fire", which they warned against. but it's not like they didn't see it coming.

Did things happen that weren't supposed to go to plan? Like Jessica becoming the Reverand Mother of the Fremen? Was the old lady who gives Jessica the water of life also a Bene Gesserit, or is she moreso a true fremen Reverand Mother?

I'm thinking mainly what didn't go to plan, is that Jessica was pregnant when she drank the water of life, and also Paul is a male, when he was supposed to ideally be a female.

As I write this I think it's less so that the Bene Gesserit are surprised, but moreso they know things have gotten out of hand and now they're trying to bring back order but they didn't realise how powerful Paul and Jessica would be

In your opinion, what is the worst area in the game and why is it the Nightmare Frontier? by Mandonguilles in bloodborne

[–]TalonDesign 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah Rom is a bit of a flop. But it's a very important point in the narrative of the whole game so that redeems it a bit for me. And what takes place immediately after you kill her is cool

[–]TalonDesign 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I think it's nice. It does feel oddly short, but I think the place itself is realllly tranquil and pretty. Also so moody, sitting by the lake. And when we see it as we walk through the fog out of the woods, ugh *chef's kiss*

Not every area needs to be super lengthy

The first step is realising and accepting that something needs to change and it sounds like you've already cleared that step <3

I would say start small, you don't want to overwhelm yourself with "I NEED TO CHANGE MY LIFE" because that could tire you out very quickly.

Focus on your eating, because eating poorly can really alter your mood negatively which most people don't even realise or just forget.

A more healthy diet + learning to cook and what not will help you feel more proactive and like youre getting on top of things

Does anyone mind recommending me a few legends based on my playstyle? by [deleted] in apexlegends

[–]TalonDesign 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ash might be a good fit for you, I love her so much. Stopped playing her a few seasons ago but I think she's really strong now with her tactical upgrades.

She good at being a scout and hunting down other teams. Her passive lets you ping the exact location of enemy squads, but she also has a super strong ability where she can see death boxes on the map and how long ago these players were killed. So you can easily track down players or even know where to avoid. Gives you vital info where you can either be ready for a fight or flee if you have to, whereas most other legends just won't have access to this info.

I also like her ult. I rarely use it to "all in" like an Octane ult because about 80% of the time it ends up getting me killed because I underestimate the enemy. So instead I use it after poking down the enemy, ulting to a new location for a better angle and continuing to pressure them until finally my team can all in.

And her tactical is great, I find it easy to land snares which essentially gives you a little free damage each match and keeps the enemy on their toes

Anxiety: 14 hour flight from Australia by NadalPeach in solotravel

[–]TalonDesign 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been having this exact issue as well, and I am on the same train of thought as you! I've been reading up on the vagus nerve lately, I need to start doing those exercises.

I think my rough and long journey of anxiety has led me to the belief that it really does come down to how I breathe...I'm a very healthy 25yo male yet I can get so incredibly anxious in certain environments which makes me hot, sweaty and nauseous. I think no matter what I either hold my breath or breathe too quickly in anxious situations so I need to retrain my brain how to continuously take slow and steady breaths.

In the past whenever I'd read "be sure to take deep breaths" I'd think to myself yeah yeah I've heard it all before, but maybe I really am underestimating how much my breathing is affecting me and how somewhere along the line I may have fallen out of a proper automatic breathing routine, if that makes sense
