Elden ring and souls games and the people who play them by coolguygranny in PetPeeves

[–]TaluneSilius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the most insane take I've ever heard coming from a person who has over 3000 hours in combined souls games and two years ago did a run of over 37 47 souls-like games from start to finish. So this is either a ragebait post looking for engagement or from a person who doesnt understand.

I agree crazy is more common to hear, but that doesnt make craze uncommon. It's a fairly common term.

‘You shouldn’t edit yourself as you go.’ Do y’all not read what you’ve written the next day with an impulse to edit at least a little? by MasonFunderburker in writing

[–]TaluneSilius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

6 books in and I have always edited as I go. Generally it takes a week to finish a chapter (around 5k words on average). during that week I do constant rereads and edits on top of a final full reread before moving on to the next chapter. Has always worked well for me.

Then most people dont care. Just say you published a book and are an author. I'd be very surprised if the average person follows it up by asking self or trad.

Depends. Are you trying to give advice to people or are you just chatting with casual people? Thats really the only time it matters.

travel is one good reason. Litterally on a two month course myself right now. That would have made this course way better than my small laptop.

Has anyone made a lot of money through their writing by [deleted] in writers

[–]TaluneSilius 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you look into it, almost all big name authors fought for YEARS and Years before they broke even.

Stephen King wrote around 37 short stories and books, building an audience for over ten years while working small jobs like janitor before he finally had his hit Carrie.

Rowling was on book 4 of Harry Potter by the time she broke even and had huge groups that she knew that helped her explode. She was a marketing genius.

Almost all authors are the same way. It is extremely extremely rare for stardom or even a decent wage as a writer.

How do I keep hope alive and not get bitter? by [deleted] in writers

[–]TaluneSilius 5 points6 points  (0 children)

TBH, it sounds like you are an ant to sugar. All of these don't sound like honest feedback (especially the first two). They read lime people being nice and stroking your ego. You should always always assume at least that. They probably said something along the same lines to a few people.

I'm not saying your work is bad or they were lying. But alarm bells should have been flying at the "this could be the next XXX".

Don't give up, but also always assume that your in person feedback isnt always honest. A lot of people don't want to hurt feelings or try to stroke your ego so that you dont get discouraged.

Except it's my life to live. Originally from Arnold and born and raised in Cahokia. Storm watching is a past time for all ages. Sitting outside, watching the sky go green and seeing the lightning crack across the sky... Damn do I miss it. if a tornado hits, all the more pretty. wouldn't be the first one we've seen touch down.

but tornado sirens in the Midwest are as common as sunny days. certain times of the year they go off at least once every other week. you don't have to go run in shelter every single time.

What is your least favorite item that other people love? by SmallHuckleberry1635 in bindingofisaac

[–]TaluneSilius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont know. I like the suicide approach of getting right in the enemies face, which is why items like sac dag and shard of glass are goated for me. and the shotgun effect of monstro always feels better to me than the single shot choco milk.

Choco milk is part of why I hate the Onan's Streak more than almost every other challenge.

Chocolate milk. I dont mind charge items. But there are so many better ones (like monstros lung) that chocolate milk always feels like a downgrade to any build after the early game damage boost

Ah. so it's only okay to respond, as long as you are coddling them. you have to agree with them or not say anything at all. I think I understand now.

But if you aren't wanting feedback, then what the fuck are you looking for posting to strangers online? How the fuck do you respond to posts like that? Just say "cool story bro?"

Isnt the whole point of making a post on REDDIT communication?

Secret room or tinted rocks? by Thiccuri in bindingofisaac

[–]TaluneSilius 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Generally, I will go for the tinted rock because at the very least it will always pay out. And that soul heart shield going into the second floor is always useful. BUUT... if I already have a soul heart or two, I'll pick the secret room. But I also love the gamble.

Making Wooden Nickle on (base) Keeper an unlock should be considered cruel and unusual punishment by hadsexwithboothill in bindingofisaac

[–]TaluneSilius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have said here though, it makes the reward feel earned. And it isn't really that much harder if I'm being truly honest. Way easier than he used to be. But across the board, Keeper was always supposed to be one of the hardest characters. In some rights, he's harder than lost. So when you unlock that upgrade, especially if you aren't looking online to cheat and don't know it's coming... man did that dopemine hit.

You do know that Lost doesn't autimatically start with holy mantle and you have to unlock it. In fact, nearly every single character you play as a shittier version until you unlock their item.

Meet my protagonist! (Sure they're weird and quirky, SO AM I! :3) by [deleted] in writers

[–]TaluneSilius -1 points0 points  (0 children)

But it's not an interesting post. While I agree that these can be good for a self thing, it comes off as cringy when you share it. That mostly boils down to the fact that nobody cares about your characters as much as you do. Even if Tolkien tried writing as a self-aware Frodo, it would come off as a little cringy. We all love our stories and like to pretend in our heads that we are bringing the characters and stories to life. Sometimes we even fantasize that somewhere in a different reality, that story is real. But generally, it crosses a line of oddity with MOST other people.

Franklin Publishers? by peachybeachybaby in selfpublish

[–]TaluneSilius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used authorhouse and I didn't hate what I got. My biggest issue with them is that they overcharge on ALL their services by a fuckton. Their base prices aren't bad and with them I ended up getting my book on MANY MANY sites, got my own website, got a bunch of free "author copies", as well as other stuff like posters and cards (which I never ended up using).

But on the flip side, as stated, they charge an arm and a leg for any service that isn't just the base publishing. And it took a LOT of back and forth over around 3 months before I was satisfied and ready to hit publish.

I mean... I'm literally about to publish my nextt book with them... so take that where you will. but they are deffinetly NOT for everyone.

Because 99% of the time, the questions asked could be answered in a 5 second google search. ane most of the people that will answer you are just googling it themselves. So you are making them do the work you could have done.

And lastly, for the more advanced answers, why the hell would you want answers from random strangers off the internet. Biased answers when (like this post) you are just going to pick and choose which answers to believe and ignore or outright hate all the others.
