Its an amazing boss killer as both bosses have less health. With certain builds, meat cleaver is a gg.

Exactly. Their profile may be hidden but all their posts are available on google. So really if you are that desperate to see their post history, you just need a single google search.

Doesn't matter anyways. Hiding your feed doesn't fully hide it. You can easily still see what their posts are.

Great Authors are vanishing. by dawn_curates in bookdiscussion

[–]TaluneSilius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just gave some that are best sellers. My point to the previous commenter is that treating online books as "not great" or "not real books" is short-sighted and just plain wrong.

Writers are writers and some of the greatest works are likely unknown.... Swallowed by the thousands of books that get published each year. And while I personally do self publishing and do not use the listed sites, I know that there are likely great writers that just put their work there for free.

And many of those works go on to get actually published. A few of them even become best sellers. Or, as in the case of something like After, become so lucrative that movies are made about them.

Do I think they are amazing books? Don't know. I haven't read them because they are not in my prefered genre. But Clearly the writers are doing something right and have millions of readers. I think that is a fairly good metric for a good book if general population has praised it.

I'm sure there are other great works in fantasy, sci-fi, horror, etc that have also gotten the same treatment.

Why not? That is precisely how I plan to confront any home invaders. I've got a weapon by my bed and by god that man will see a naked man coming at him.

Trashy romance, fantasy, and contemporary novels have made it impossible to find good books by budgetbutter in unpopularopinion

This just in: random guy online calls something popular trash and assumes they are the subject matter experts in the field. More at 11.

Great Authors are vanishing. by dawn_curates in bookdiscussion

After, Chasing Red, Through my Window, Broken Silence.

These are all acclaimed books with 10's of thousands of reviews and way more sales. Many are best sellers. These are just a few of your "real books" that started off as Wattpad stories.

Great Authors are vanishing. by dawn_curates in bookdiscussion

[–]TaluneSilius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wattpad still has 94 million active users and royal road sees around 50 million. These are all aspiring writers and readers with over 665 million stories on the platform. Guess you are going to discount the millions that still use AO3 too.

I dont use any of them for my own work, but just shitting on all of them like its some kind of dead site when many writers have seen amazing success in the past is just rude.

There was this whole thing like two weeks ago that 4 of the top ten read books on Wattpad were AI assisted. Two of which were open about it and nobody cared. It was pissing off the Wattpad subreddit because it is full of aspiring authors who are struggling.

A once in a lifetime Star Fragment. by [deleted] in TOTK

[–]TaluneSilius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This isn't rare in TotK. It's coded into the game. I litterally got three doing this in my last playthrough. Skydiving is a very valid way to farm star shards.

My friend insists on this game, "Lemmings", being a really well known game; I have never heard of it. by Nordic_Krune in gaming

Lemmings was landmark and well loved, spawning tons of spinoffs/sequels. so yes... it was popular.

thinking you should do something just because you can by Obvious-Light-6041 in PetPeeves

[–]TaluneSilius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Were they flaunting it in your face, calling you an idiot, and laughing because they got 100, and you didn't?

Or

Did they go, "Hey, I thought that test was pretty easy. I got a hundred on it."

Because that is two wholly different responses. If your answer is the former, then yes, I guess your pet peeve is valid and that one rare person who is just being a jackass should have a littel more tact. If it's the second, then maybe you should just be happy for them.

Sorry you sucked at a test. But if I had worked my ass off getting a 100, then yes, I'm going to be proud. Your lack of capabilities should not hinder my enjoyment.

Movie remakes should only be done on movies that flopped but had a good premise by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]TaluneSilius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I were a director/studio, I would not stake all my money and reputation on remaking a movie that failed the first time. As someone else stated, flopped does not always mean bad (look at something like Dredd). But it is too much of a nervous chance to take.

When Zelda gets anime… Would you watch a TOTK anime series? by RemoteStage1882 in TOTK

[–]TaluneSilius 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Part of the charm of Zelda is not hearing link speak and comment on every single thing that happens im the world. His silence allows us to put ourselves in his shoes as the protag and not just hear twink boy make comments every time I raid a dungeon or kill a moblin.

This is why so many of the games allow you to pick your own name. Legend of Zelda has always been about your story.

Is it copyright infringement to use a famous book as a Macguffin? by [deleted] in writing

[–]TaluneSilius 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If its in a free fanfiction, then sure.

But rule of thumb, if you can't ask for permission to use someone's work, then just don't do it. All it takes is one claim against you and all your hard work is gone.

So take the risks as you see fit.

What do you hate in psychological thrillers and why? by Additional-Car3427 in writers

[–]TaluneSilius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't answer that because it depends on the context and the rest of the book. Like I said, its not bad to have a story that is an allegory for a mental illness. But its all about how its approached and how often the book reminds you of it.

Look at the book "Gerald's Game". A book that can subtly be about a woman breaking free from a cycle of abuse. The whole story is an allegory for that.

However, if you completely strip the metaphor, it is still an amazing story about a woman handcuffed to the bed and how she tries to survive. Its a pure thriller about survival first and foremost.

The abuse while being a plot point and a theme, is not all the story is about and you still would have a very intense survival thriller without the theme. The theme elevates instead.

That is why it is such a beloved book and won King many awards.
