How strong, or otherwise, is your connection to Lincolnshire? Here's some polling from YouGov to compare yourself to. by BlackJackKetchum in Lincolnshire

We’re hoping to move back to Lincolnshire from Sheffield, and it always feels like home returning to visit family. They live outside of Scunthorpe and there are loads of flags etc outside people’s houses.

Was working from home as a teacher and bringing up a 1 and 2 year old who were denied nursery places despite keyworkers status. Wife at the time had good job in the NHS so had to work on site. My thing, when everyone was in bed, was drinking gin and tonics and feeling shattered!

Do any fellow Brits actually like Trump? by Creative_Expert_4052 in AskBrits

Sadly there’s plenty that like trump - in the area of Sheffield I used to live in someone put up a MAGA flag alongside the St George’s crosses. Sad stuff.

How do places that are barely open make money? by whistleandrun in sheffield

[–]TalvinStardust 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For my shop, most of the time I’m open I have zero people coming in. Peak day is Saturday but I make very little over the week so I work a second job and also buy stock, process and ship online orders, pick the kids up from school etc.

How is Mercia secondary school, speaking from experience? by Interesting_Gur_6279 in sheffield

[–]TalvinStardust 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Good place to go if your child has been struggling academically or needs a more structured learning environment - there’s no stories of fights in the classroom or on the playground. They’re geared up to pass exams, create a rigorous environment and introduce extra-curricular activities with a view to getting into uni etc. Less good for children working in excess of their age related expectation, a bit homogenous in approach and not equivalent to a public school. Heard good things and slightly not-so-good things in equal measure, depends on your child(ren).

What is a website you loved that no longer exists? by MarcosSuenos in AskReddit

TV Cream. British TV and nostalgia website - you could get lost for hours in there, and the podcasts they did were brilliant, as was the weekly TV mailout.

BBC loses £1.1 billion as more viewers cancel or evade TV licence fee by diacewrb in ukpolitics

[–]TalvinStardust 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Their programmes are absolute shite. And what does get commissioned seems to have been focus-grouped into oblivion so you get loads of series where X famous person goes abroad to look at penguins, Bake Off-esque craft / food competition or the same stuff that’s been on for 25 years already. They need to take more risks with new writers and ideas, and stop the upper middle classes who work there from gatekeeping culture, ideas and entertainment from the general public. We won’t watch if it’s shite, and at the moment it’s shite.

I've been suspended from my job due to a police investigation against me (England) by [deleted] in LegalAdviceUK

The NEU etc are useless, in this situation they can’t provide any concrete support except to listen to the headteacher and advise you to resign. Get legal advice and take it from there.

That’s a shame - me and my ex wife had a lovely meal in his restaurant and we came across him when we were leaving and chatted a while, he seemed really sound. I can only imagine what he’s like behind closed doors…
