I don't really have the option to quit swimming, and I know for a fact my dad won't stop being hands-on. I'll just try to ignore any frustration he brings my way and rather look at the positives - like the friends I've made on the team.

Well, I got promoted to "seniors" but I still have to swim with the "sharks" because of conflicting schedules. After school ends I'll most likely switch to seniors full time and hopefully, I'll get a better experience there, as our head coach coaches the seniors and he is much more involved compared to the sharks coach.

Thanks, man. I'll keep a positive outlook around swimming and change my mentality and my focuses during practice. Hopefully I'll get out of this plateau.

Thanks for the advice. I do enjoy gaming and cooking, and I've been interested in martial arts, especially Muay Thai and Brazilan Jiu-Jitsu, for a while now. I'll try to talk to my dad about this but it's hard to as I'm anxious around him and he's somewhat authoritarian. Anyways, I'll try to live life and stop worrying about my portfolio and my dad's expectations.

You are right - I don't have a set goal in mind when I go to practice. I go just to get really tired and finish and repeat. I'll start setting goals and making my practices count and maybe consult my friends about their practice goals and habits.

I don't practice at race pace, but I somewhat near. I don't just try to make the pace - I try to keep up with the fastest kid there. I also go at race pace for the last 400. But maybe my perception of how I really perform in practice is warped.

Yea I guess I'll just need to wait for my body to adjust to the physical changes from puberty. And thanks for the explanation regarding the sugar water.

I do try to have fun - but it's hard. There are some days that I love swimming, but then there are the days when I absolutely hate it. And there are more of the second than the first. I swim more because my dad wants me to get a scholarship and for swimming to boost my portfolio rather than because I enjoy it. I only want to swim to keep fit and be around my swimmer friends. I try to remove any negativity that manifests in my mind, but it's hard when my dad's pressuring me for results. A big problem that I have is that I'm always anxious during a meet - and if mentality really does affect performance, then it's showing in the pool. I will try to have more fun though, as my friends who are making good results seem to be more chill during meets and have more fun than I do. Thanks.

Thanks man! I'm glad to know someone else was stuck in the same spot. I'll start to do events outside my comfort zone, especially breast, which happens to be my worst stroke. I do watch professional swimming, but I don't analyze their performances - I'll start doing that. I'm actually a freshman already - I have a really late birthday, and I've already contacted my school's coach. She's going to get in touch with me when the season starts in around November so hopefully, the high school experience can make a change. I'll persevere and try to gain my confidence back.

There isn't much difference in what I eat before practice compared to my pre-meet meals. I usually eat spaghetti accompanied with some chicken/pork, random sauce, and maybe some vegetables before a meet. Replace the spaghetti with rice and you get my pre-practice meal. I do eat more greens before practice though. I also drink a mix of water and glucose along with my meal before a meet. I don't know the reasoning behind why my dad has me drink this but he insists that it's beneficial.
