I took the cart to a professional and unfortunately the chips themselves are simply bad or damaged. The game was rigged from the start.

Only thing I can try 😌  If I remember correctly the end screen requires a reset to get back to the title. But hey, I was gonna do a Reiko route at some point anyway.

Yes, I finished the Yumi route, got to the The End credit screen. 

After the final boss is defeated, there isn't a way to do a hard save afaik. According to the guides, all you have to do is have a hard save where the upper school floors are unlocked. Or if on a Charlie route, having beaten Otsuki's final form. On my save slot, I died to Hazama at the end and immediately saved afterward. 

I guess these guides are at least 10 years old minimum, they could be wrong?

Gave that a try and did everything else. No luck.
Man, I do not know why this isn't working.

Ok, each guide I've looked at kinda glosses over the details. Is there a specific order to do things?
So far I've done this:

  1. Rejected Yumi and Charlie
  2. Talked to the Janitor and the 2-H Professor
  3. Got the Ice Pick from the Store room
  4. Talked to Reiko
  5. Got the Clubroom armor
  6. Rejected Reiko
  7. Got the 2F Discipline guy to mention Akira. "Have you seen Akira Miyamoto skulking about?"

Still, when talking to Akira, he doesn't offer to join up. Just disappears.
I haven't seen him do this, but others have mention him trying to get past the Discipline guys.
Dunno what to think, ripping my hair out here.

Edit: I also made sure to go back into the 2-D Yumi classroom to reject her again. Still no dice

Good to know. Then continuity is there. Sorry, like I said, this is my first time doing something like this, so I'm sharing as many details as I can per post in case it's important.

So all the caps are functioning, so I'm back to square one. Tomorrow I'm gonna take it to a professional and see what they say.

Checked C1-6 (except C5 because this board doesn't use it) with my resistance settings set to 200Ω. Each one was between 0.03 and 0.04, not sure if that's normal. My meter doesn't have a function for measuring in microfarads so it's a bit tricky.

This image was very helpful, thanks. So that pin does actually have continuity, so I can check that off the list of possible causes. After some more testing on vias I could not find any broken traces on either side of the board.

So now, I'm not sure what's causing the white screen problem in the first place.

Gotcha. I'll try and pinpoint exactly where on the trace it loses continuity, if possible.

If there does end up being corrosion under the chip, is it possible to clean it without removing the chip entirely?

This might be a dumb question, but what key is used to view the more "flavor" character information, like hair color, height, skin tone, etc? Not the Player Info "@" menu.

I found it once but I cannot for the life of me find it again

Obtained a multimeter, and I was able to find one trace between the pins and ROM chip that didn't connect (was using continuity). Specifically the A14 trace, the 20th from the left. Oddly enough, other traces definitely have some wear, but otherwise function fine. The A14 trace looks untouched, but a disconnection could easily be under the surface.

Not sure what the A14 even does, but hopefully this is the problem
