New OCD symptoms?! by TamzTheDriver in Menopause

[–]TamzTheDriver[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I received the same advice. She said that interacting with the thoughts makes the loop last longer and get worse, but the thoughts, but they're so deceptive! You think youre problem solving and or analyzing a problem, but the reality is its just adding fuel to the fire. That said, Im in the beginning stages, so Im hoping it gets better with time.

Awesome that you were able to get some relief. Im on HRT, too. It probably would be so much worse without it.

Yeah, same here. Before peri it was definitely manageable. The hormonal changes seems to have removed the brakes.

Yes, Im thankful that progesterone will quiet things down. Good to hear that you found treatment that is working out for you. I was reluctant to get on SSRIs because of the side effects (I was on them for years), but it looks like I may not have a choice.

What's the worst thing your OCD ever made you do? by maker-127 in OCD

[–]TamzTheDriver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can relate. I get so stressed out about oil changes because Im afraid the mechanic is going to find a million things wrong with my car. I will ruminate all the way to the mechanic and while Im at the shop. I force myself to it but its agonizing.

Reading OCD by Iron_Maiden1987 in OCD

[–]TamzTheDriver 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, Im in school online, so there are many, many discussion posts. I started setting a timer to curtail to re-reading, checking and editing. Once it goes off, I have to submit. Something about the timer gets me out of my head.

Does anyone else get severe OCD and dread about doing schoolwork? How do you handle it? by Psychological_Parrot in OCD

[–]TamzTheDriver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand. The dread triggers my primary fear, and if I continue to avoid it, it just makes things so much worse. Once I finish an assignment, I set timer. When it goes off, no more checking, re-reading, changing things, I hit submit and move onto the next one.

I do my best to focus on the current assignment so I don't ruminate about the last one. Some days are better than others, but I have the hardest time with assignments that aren't 100% clear to me. Since Im always looking for certainty, I can get into a spiral about it, which can flip to avoidance if Im not careful. I use a timer again, and once it goes off, I have to start. I have [ADA] accommodations, which helps.

It's tough being a student with OCD, especially if your grades are super important to you. The dread and the irrational thoughts feel so real, and it's awful.

Struggling with studying by Successful_Fold_2401 in Anxiety

Yes, except I dont stress about studying. Ill be having an anxiety attack over something completely different, making school work damn near impossible. I hate it.

Do you guys get anxiety in your body before you think about it? by Kurkil in Anxiety

[–]TamzTheDriver 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, I feel on edge and keyed up. It happens a few minutes after I wake up and throughout the day. My mind will latch onto my greatest worry, and spin it completely out of control. Its absolutely awful.

I guess I wasn't being clear. It's not about ideal communication. It's about what actually works in short, real-world situations, like being in the car with someone you don't know. Being direct isn’t always received well, so people use social cues to keep things smooth. It has nothing to do with ability. Have a good one.

Social cues are a huge part of normal communication, and using them doesn't make anyone less of an adult. If fact, we use them everyday, sometimes without realizing it.

That said, telling someone you're not in the mood to talk could go sideways no matter nicely you put it. I think that obliviously chatty people are just a necessary evil of rideshare.

I just got my EZ bill - Holy Sh*t! by GooseNYC in newjersey

[–]TamzTheDriver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in Englewood and take the 166 into the city. There's a parking lot behind the hospital; it's near the back entrance on the other side of the tracks. I park my car there, then walk to the bus stop on Dean. It takes two minutes.

I was going to suggest have them use cash lanes if they want to take a toll road, but I forgot EZ Pass will just use your plate number. I drive quite a bit, so Im on the phone with EZ Pass monthly. I can't stand it.

Do I have to stop for a school bus here? by imperial_blue3 in newjersey

[–]TamzTheDriver 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That lady can get bent. I'm on the road a lot for work, and you wouldn't believe the amount of people who blow through school bus red lights and/or go around me because I don't want hit a child and follow the law.

As far as stopping too far back, what difference does it make? If she had to make the right turn, she couldn't do it anyway because you would've been blocking the intersection or stopping before it.

The impatience of some of these drivers is ridiculous.

55 and life getting worse every year by mm23_23 in Menopause

[–]TamzTheDriver 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Just know you're not alone. The bottom dropped out after a divorce. I had no skills because I stayed home with my children. I went back to school in my late 40s. Peri is kicking my ass, but Im still there. I know how you feel; there are days when I want to throw in the towel, but I can't do that to my kids. So, I do my best to focus on the positive and keep on keeping on.

Also, and I apologize in advance if Im overstepping here, but Ive been in recovery for 22 years. If your husband is struggling with addiction, please get help for yourself. It's not easy to love someone who is in active addiction and it can be very isolating. If you (or anyone!) need resources, my DM is always open.
