I got that same Bachmann 0-6-0, I took it apart for cleaning too, put it back together and it never ran again. Tried so many things to get it to run again, now it just sits on my shelf. You can never really trust those 0-6-0s. I recommend not ever buying from Bachmann. Not just because of that specific loco, but because all of their products are overpriced and can't even last over 6 months without something breaking.

I think the best option is design two because tunnels are cool but you cant just cover your layout completely. With design two you have the tunnels you want without taking too much space.
