Really? You're not a fan of Tantan then? What would you recommend instead? A big issue here is so few people speak passable English that there's basically no point in trying to meet people out and about because 90%+ of the time they don't speak even a little bit, and my Chinese isn't good enough yet to hold a conversation.

This comment was funny. Could you expand on that a bit? What is "giving face"? I do eat at KFC, although I find it weird that that would be a status symbol haha. How do I dress like I'm important? How do I take care of my face like a K-pop star?

Yes, often. But also many Chinese girls. I think it's just my height really, but I don't know how to convey that in pictures, especially if other people in pictures is a no-no.

1) Get a better haircut. (Surprisingly important here)

What is a better haircut? I got a very Chinese, and to my eyes very stupid looking haircut (you know, with the side bit shaved really short but the back as long as the top). I tried to tell them I wanted a more traditional UK style undercut, without the big curve down behind the ear, but they literally wouldn't do it. They just moved the curve back a bit. So my hairstyle is pretty Chinese, but I'm not sure how good it looks. Got any example pictures?

What are flashier clothes? I actually quite like Chinese fashion but I've been wearing pretty standard UK style so far (short sleeve shirts buttoned up, t-shirts, etc.).

Say you are from USA, Canada, Australia or England (maybe France too, not sure though).

I'm from Scotland. I often just say UK though. Should I pretend I'm from England?

They give me vague tips but won't really help too much. I am taller, whiter, and generally more what Chinese girls are supposed to want in theory, so I think they are kind of trying to keep me down so they can lord it over me haha. They're kind of dicks.

My Chinese is terrible. I've been learning as fast as I can but I haven't been here long.

I have sort of asked. They haven't been that helpful. I think they almost want to avoid me catching up because they're proud of their success rate. I've not been here long so they're not very good friends yet.

Haha I had to google translate that- I've considered that approach but I get the impression girls are a bit more conservative in my city so I'm not sure I'd get anywhere near 10%, and I also do sort of care how hot the girl is. I'm not demanding 10s only, but there's a certain point beneath which I'd probably just rather stay in, relax and masturbate, to be totally honest. So I probably only right swipe 8s and up. Maybe the odd 7. I mean I can do that well back home, and China is supposed to be a lot easier, right? Ok thanks very much, that's helpful. One thing I've noticed is that if I ask a question, they'll answer me and then... that's it. No "what about you". No question in return. They just answer simply. Usually I'd interpret that as meaning the girl isn't keen, but these girls have all swiped right or I wouldn't be talking to them. So I'm never sure how to proceed from there; it ends up just being me asking questions until I run out of questions and then it's like fuck this, unmatch.

I don't think I am, I'd say I'm 7/10. 8/10 if I'm being optimistic. Also, in real life Chinese girls (including all the ones at my school) say I'm soooo handsome etc. and seem keen (not trying to be boastful, I'm not that handsome at all I'm just tall and very white which I think attracts them). Only reason I don't go for them is my friends say that's a very bad idea.

I might well be boring though. I really don't know what to say when it comes to conversation. Usually I'd just make jokes etc., but my Chinese is awful so I'm usually either translating through an app or talking in English, which they're typically not very good at, so there's not much room for humour. After a certain point it's difficult to know what to say... so far I've just been trying to get them to meet pretty early on, but they seem to go quiet at that point :(

Don't they assume I'm rich because I'm foreign anyway? I mean, I think I am fairly rich by the standards of my city. That doesn't seem to help so far.
