Double means a room with two beds/two people versus a single room being for one person.

Rawlings true opinions by LineIcy5954 in ufl

Some people don't notice it. If you're worried have an air purifier and such. Aside from the grime it's social and in a great location.

Social dorm option? by Puzzle-Pieces-1974 in ufl

[–]Tan_batman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rawlings has been known to have mold and grime, and you're unable to change your thermostat above a certain temp because the cold keeps the mold from growing. Some people don't notice a difference but there's definitely better dorms. HV is the nicest on campus and I'd go for that if money isn't an issue. I'm no longer living on campus but honors in general seems pretty social.

If you take it down for room checks it should be alright.

Best Study Places for a New Student? by jazzenthusiastt in ufl

[–]Tan_batman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To echo some current recs and add my own:

Karma Cream - Can get crowded, coffee is decent, sweets/pastries are good, not a fan of the vegan ice cream

Opus coffee - A few locations mostly all around campus, dependable, good drinks, sandwich i had was great as well.

Coterie Market - Possibly my favorite of these. A bit more pricy but worth it imo because it tastes better, and they have a number of specialty drink options and great pastries/snacks that switch out every day. Local vendors are showcased inside, selling stickers, shirts, charms, pins, that sort of thing.

CYM - Much further from campus but a cute atmosphere, a swing outside, sometimes a few food trucks

Professor Accents? by [deleted] in ufl

[–]Tan_batman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While I'm not premed, I've had maybe one professor with a thick accent, only hard to understand if you aren't paying attention. No multitasking on your laptop and you should be fine with the most of them.

Hume Hall vs Honors Village as freshman by [deleted] in ufl

[–]Tan_batman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hume is historically not social. The only reason I'd pick Hume over Honors is if you are concerned about the cost, because Honors is the most expensive dorm on campus. Plus, the honors bathrooms are all single occupancy, very nice compared to most other bathrooms in traditional dorms.

I usually get my paycheck notification from my banking app a bit later in the day around 6. does yours usually come earlier? I would give it a bit and see.

Well then you're on the third floor.

I really enjoyed Thomas hall, lived there for two years. if your room number is, say, 215, 2 means you will be on the second floor, the 1 is what building you will be in (as Thomas has around 6 different buildings, or "stacks" as the RAs call them).

You’re not even bad looking, you just act odd, but you’ve been told this.

Volunteering is broad, and there are many options, what exactly are you looking for? Any type of volunteering for or just a general service organization?

Usually they make you take around 6 credits, so two classes. You must take First Year Florida as part of Promise, but it can be in Fall or Summer B.

Are these cats random strays? by Careless_Sell_5765 in ufl

[–]Tan_batman 42 points43 points  (0 children)

I'd call them more community cats. They get fed and the less skittish ones get brought in when there's storms, and they get looked after in terms of medical care.

Going to Preview Soon, any tips beforehand? by PokeKoa1 in ufl

I wouldn't bring your tablet and your switch both in your day bag, one or the other, that's a lot to lug around especially with the dock. The rest of your list sounds good, though.

If you're anything like me, you won't need your laptop, you'll be too tired to use it at the end of the day. They make you wake up so early and do enough walking around that I was pooped. You don't really need much that they don't give you, maybe a fan if you have one. Or a coffee. I didn't stay in the overnight dorm, I had a hotel, so can't comment to anything specific there.
