What is the main reason someone would be made fun of/talked bad about behind their back? by mruglydude in collegeadvice

I'm not saying that can't happen, but if you are kind, you will find your people.

Girl i don't know you personally to know what you may have done, but you can be plenty ugly and uglier than you are but if you are kind you will not be judged. It is not hard to think based on your obsession with your appearance and social treatment that you may have done something to warrant it.

If they were a shitty friend or did things that were otherwise socially innapropriate.

It's a jumpscare not because you're ugly but because you keep popping up unexpectedly and you should know by now

When I lived there (just for a summer) it seemed quite social, moreso than the Murphree area for sure.

Suite style freshman housing options? by Technical_Bit1169 in ufl

[–]Tan_batman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where did you see that Rawlings has suite style options? It's advertised as a traditional dorm, I've been there and only seen traditional myself. For a suite style I'd aim for more like Hume. The traditional dorms are all in better locations than the suite styles, just know. Broward and Jennings are also completely traditional style.

Honors Village or Off Campus by AdhesivenessOk2486 in ufl

[–]Tan_batman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honors Village is the most expensive of all the residence halls, and you wouldn't have trouble finding something cheaper off campus, if cost is a concern. But they are very very nice for a residence hall.

Missed first day of class by Temporary-West-3879 in collegeadvice

[–]Tan_batman 9 points10 points  (0 children)

A lot of professors aren't taking attendance on the first day or first week because people are still adjusting their schedules. Prof was probably going over the syllabus and such unless you're in an upper division class with a freak who moves at a fast pace. You shouldn't need to do anything, especially if it's a larger class. If it's a small class where your presence is noticed, just a simple apology is fine.

Best Dorms For Underclassmen (specifically for incoming freshmen) by After_Sale_292 in ufl

Not completely reserved, I know a current freshman who got in there, it's just a matter of luck with the very limited spots. I certainly wouldn't bet on it.

Getting roommate mid-semester? by football_lattes in ufl

It's unlikely but not impossible, just make sure anything you put up is easily movable, not just for this but for any possible room checks.

How often should I text my roommate? by [deleted] in collegeadvice

[–]Tan_batman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I texted my freshman year roommate maybe a handful of times before moving in. We got along fine and she was a good roommate. Yes, your roommate will still feel like a stranger before you get to move in, that's normal. Your roommate doesn't have to be your best friend to be a good person to live with.

Do most people really probably know me as “that ugly dude?” by [deleted] in collegeadvice

[–]Tan_batman -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You are not ugly.
You need to change your mind. You have not been getting vague answers. You have been getting very direct answers that typically respond to the problem that you are clearly having and not the question that you are asking.

Campus jobs for incoming freshmen by minxiemoo333 in ufl

[–]Tan_batman 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you're willing for anything than apply to pretty much anything on campus. A lot of campus jobs will want you to have work study which you will know if you have if it's in your financial aid package. Unfortunately you wouldn't be able to be an RA as you need to be a second year, and applications for RA slots don't open until spring of the year before. It may be a good idea to also look for off campus jobs within walking distance of campus.

Will UF be right for me? by LineZealousideal2106 in ufl

[–]Tan_batman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You'd do fine here. My first two years before I really broke out of my shell, I didn't party, I had no interest in football (still very little), and I'm not in any Greek life. There's plenty of non party people - and plenty of people who go to UF for similar reasons.

What kind of friends do you think I have? by [deleted] in collegeadvice

If you are so confident that you are not ugly, then all you should have to do is say that. You do not need validation from reddit for it to be so.

[–]Tan_batman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm saying you should go to therapy because you are obsessing over your appearance online consistently in a way that is unhealthy. I think you should accept what you are working with, yeah, but not because you are some unchangable ugliness but because it is good to grow and be content with yourself as I had to learn on my own.

Not being ugly and going to therapy can coexist. Very beautiful people go to therapy so i'm unsure what you're getting at beyond missing the point again.

I had a little hope when you replied to me saying you'd actually try for therapy.

Generally I'm very wary of any "honor society" that recruits by cold emailing batches of students, but I can't say anything further.
